The present invention relates to a machine for reading in and punching jacquard cards, comprising a plurality of punches, the number of which is equal to that of holes comprised in a row of jacquard weaving cards, arranged in front of a holder adapted to receive a jacquard card to be punched.

This invention has for its object to provide a machine for simultaneously punching all of the jacquard cards corresponding to the same pick of the design of a twill effect, as well as the easy reading in of the design, or the sketch.

To this end, through the action of a suitable device, said punches are coupled one by one with a lever provided with a driving pin which is subjected to the action of a guide connected with a member rotating at a substantially constant speed, said guide being able, through the driving of the driving pin, to pivot said lever and thus to cause the coupled punch to be displaced, whilst the pivoting angle of the lever and consequently the length of the punch stroke can be limited by means provided therefor, said means acting in such a manner that, the lever being locked at a dead point of its stroke, the punch remains stationary, or, the locking of the lever taking place at an intermediate position, the punch returns to its starting point without punching said jacquard card, the last mentioned locking being brought about by the action on a locking device, of one of a plurality of fingers carried by one of a plurality of intermittently moving endless bands, each of which has a number of the abovementioned fingers, arranged in transverse and longitudinal rows, at right angles to each other, each longitudinal finger row corresponding to a weft thread of one colour, and the number of fingers in said row being at least equal to the numbers of threads in one twill effect, whereas an endless band is provided for each twill effect of the pattern to be transferred to the fabrics.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, said rotating member is a disc and the guide, formed as grooves in one face of said disc, comprises a circular groove, the centre of which is on the rotation axis of the disc, a groove of substantially oval shape, one portion of which merges in the first groove and the other portion reaches 53 Claims. (Cl. 164-414) near to said centre, and at least one secondary groove connecting the substantially oval-shaped groove with the circular one.

At the end of the portion common to the circular and oval-shapedgrooves, at their bifurcation, as well as the places of bifurcation of the oval-shaped groove andthe secondary grooves there is a member, for instance a plate spring which normally forces the above-mentioned driving pin to follow the oval-shaped groove and consequently to draw near to the aforesaid centre, but which moves aside and permits the driving pin to engage in other grooves when said driving pin exerts a sufiicient pressure upon the aforesaid member, which takes place when the lever to which the driving pin is secured is prevented from moving.

The abovesaid device, coupling the punches with the lever is formed as a drum which, on each idle stroke of the aforesaid driving pin lever, turns through an angle equal to 360 divided by the number of punches and is provided with tappets or drivers, the number of which equals that of the punches, said tappets being evenly spaced apart on the surface of said drum along a helix, said helix extending to the length of a pitch, and, as each punch is in the plane of movement of one of said tappets, when a tappet engages a punch, the latter is pushed against a piece connected with aforesaid lever.

Sai-d piece is a beam extending along the punch row and provided with a recess, for instance a groove, which is engaged by a catch or lug provided on each punch, when a punch is pushed against the beam.

The holder inwhich the jacquard card to be punched is fitted, moves intermittently in a direction substantially at right angles to the direction of the punch alinement, whilst pausing whenever a punch executes its active stroke.

The displacement of said holder is controlled by said driving pin lever and takes place on the idle stroke of the latter. The punches for the cutting of the needle holes are on a line slightly inclined to the direction of the forward movement of the jacquard card and in such a manner that, when the first punches in the row are opposite to a row of needle holes in the jacquard card, the last punches in the row are at a distance from this side of the next needle holes row equal to the distance between aforesaid two adjacent rows divided by the punch number. Owing to said arrangement the card holder may be given a uniform forward movement when passing from a thread to the following one, whether the consecutive holes may be on a same row or on a following one.

The fingers which act on the locking devices of the driving pin lever are removably attached to their respective endless band, the latter being formed or provided, at the places where fingers may possibly be arranged, with means,-for in- 3 stance holes, permitting said fingers to be attached.

Each of said endless bands is carried on two pulleys, the distance between the axes of which is adjustable, so that said band may be stretched to the desired extent.

At least one of said two pulleys is carriedby a shaft common to all bands, so that said bands are travelling simultaneously and at the same speed.

The movement of said haft is controlled by the driving pin lever, which, being connected with said shaft through a ratchet wheel, imparts to it, when accomplishing an idle stroke, a rotation through an adequate angle.

The aforesaid device, locking the driving pin lever, is formed as a lever of the first order, the first arm of which is provided with a hook which, when a finger acts on its second arm, functioning as a feeler, may engage a catch integral with said L lever, said feeler being able, through the action of a lever, to be displaced along 'its oscillation axis and to be brought outside the path of the fingers.

The lever ofthe first order locking the aforesaid dri'ving 'pin lever comprises a number of feelers equal to that of the endless bands, eachof said feelers, as they are carried "on a'singie shaft, being infront of one'of said bands.

The machine according to the invention, which permits the simultaneous punching of all jacquard cards-corresponding to a pick of the design, consists of several machines of the above described type which are disposed side by side, each machine being adapted to punch a particular kind (size or quality) of weft threads, whilst the corresponding endless bands are arranged one behind another, so that the respective feelers are controlled by'the same lever.

The machine is provided with a roller supporting the designs and rotating, after the reading in and punching of each pick of the design, so that the number of displacements necessary for passing the wholeheight of the pattern, is equal to the number of picks which the designing of said pattern would involve.

The reading in of the design takes .place by means of a needle intermittently moving before apick of the design, one step being made on each idle stroke of the aforesaid driving pin lever. Further details and features of the invention will appear from the description of a reading in and punching machine for jacquard cards, which is given hereinafter by'way of non-restricting example withreferenc'e to the accompanying draw- Figure 1 is a front elevation of a machine according 'to'the invention.

The jacquard card reading in and punching machine shown in the aforesaid figures, comprises a plurality of punches the number of which equals the possible number of holes in a row of a jacquard weaving card, arranged in front of a holder 2 adapted to accommodate a jacquard card 3 to be punched. Through the action of a device 4, the punches l are coupled one by one with a lever 5 provided with a driving pin or tappet 6. This driving pin 5 is controlled by a guide integral with a member rotating at a substantially constant speed, through the movement of the driving pin, pivots the lever 5 and thus causes the coupled punch to be displaced. The pivoting angle of the lever 5 and, consequently, the length of the stroke of the coupled punch may be limited by means provided therefor which act in such a manner that, while the lever 5 is locked at a dead point of its stroke, the punch to be coupled remains stationary or, while the locking of the lever 5 takes place in an intermediate position, the coupled punch is restored to its starting point without having punched the card 3. The last-mentioned locking is effected by the action on a locking device of 1 one of the fingers 8 carried by one of the endless bands '9 moved intermittently and carrying each a number of fingers 8, arranged in transverse and longitudinal rows at right angles to each other, each longitudinal row of fingers .8 corresponding to a weft threadof one colour, and the number of fingers B being equal to the number of threads in a twill effect. An endless band 9 is provided for each twill elfect of the pattern to be transferred to the fabrics.

The turning member I is a disc and the guide is formed as a groove one of the sides of said disc.

The guide comprises "a circular groove 10, the centre of which registers with the axis'of revolution I! of the disc I, a substantially oval groove i2,'a portion of which merges into the firstgroove l5 and the other portion of which draws near to the centre 1 l, and secondary grooves I3, 14, I5 connecting the substantially oval-shaped groove I2 with the circular groove [0. At the end of the portion common to the circular groove 15 and the oval-shaped groove l2, at their bifurcation as well as at the bifurcation points of the oval-shaped groove [-2 and the secondary grooves l3, l4, l5 there-are members 16 11, I8 and I5, for instance plate springs, which normally force the driving pin6 to follow the groo-ve l2 and consequently todraw near to the centre H, but move aside and allow the driving pin -6 to enter other grooves when the driving pin 5 exerts on them a sufliciently strong pressure, which takes place when the movement -'of the lever 5 is prevented. When the lever 5 is locked at the upper dead point of-its stroke, thedrivin pint follows thecircular grooves ill, and, while the lever 5 remains stationary, the machine :turns idly.

The driving pin 6- enters the groove [3 when, in order to prevent the punching of the 'card, a block '50 of suitable thickness, which prevents the downward movement of the punchi, isplaced on said card.

The drivingpin 6 enters the groove :14 when the coupled punch l is stopped by a jacquard card serving as a model in the card repeating process.

The driving pin 6 enters the groove .45 when the lever 5 is locked by the locking mechanism actuated by one of the fingers 8.

The driving pin 6 travelling through the oval- Which guide;

shaped grooves I2 causes the lever 5 to be sufiiciently lowered for one of the punches I coupled with the lever 5 to punch the virgin card 3 fitted in the holder 2.

The device 4, coupling the punches I with the lever 5, is formed as a drum turning on each idle stroke of the lever 5 through an angle equal to 360 divided by the number of punches I. This drum is provided with tappets or driving pegs 2I, the number of which is equal to that of the punches I and which are evenly spaced apart on the surface of the drum 20 along ahelix.

As said helix extends to a pitch and each punch i is in the path of one of the tappets 2|, when one of said tappets contacts with a punch, the latter .is pushed against a piece 22 integral with the lever 5. The piece 22 is a beam or girder extending along a row of punches I and having a recess, for instance a groove 23, which is engaged by a catch or lug 24 on each punch. The lever 5 has two parallel arms, arranged side by side, to which the ends of the beam 22 are attached by uprights 25. The driving pin 6 is carried by one of the two arms of the lever 5. The holder 2, on which is placed the jacquard card to be punched, moves intermittently in a direction substantially at right angles to the alinement direction of the punches I, While pausing whenever one of the punches effects the active stroke.

The movement of the holder 2 is controlled by the lever 5 and takes place on the idle stroke of the latter. The holder 2 is provided with a worm 26 extending in the direction of its displacement and carrying, threaded on it, a ratchet wheel 21 of spatially fixed position. On the wheel 2'! acts a rod 28 reciprocated synchronously with the pivoting movement of the lever 5 and engaging through the agency of a hook 29 with one tooth of said wheel when lever 5 executes an idle stroke. In the specific embodiment shown, rod 28 is directly attached to lever 5. Rod 28 is acted upon by a spring 30, which presses it against wheel 21, or, when therod has been sufliciently lowered, against a guide 3I. Holder 2 is provided with punches 32 adapted to cut peg holes and lacing or twine holes, and serving as stops for holding back the jacquard card during the needle hole punching process. The punches 32 are controlled by a lever 33 attached to holder 2 and driven manually.

The punches I for the needle hole punching are arranged on a line slightly inclined to the ad- Vance direction of the jacquard card and in such a manner that when the first punch I of the row is opposite to a needle hole row of the jacquard card, the last punch I is on this side of the next row of needle holes at a distance equal to the interval between two adjacent row of needle holes divided by the number of punches.

The fingers 8 are removably attached to their respective endless bands 9. To this end, these bands have, at the places where fingers may possibly be arranged, means for instance'holesenabling said fingers to'be attached.

Each endless band 9 is carried on two pulleys 34 and 35, the distance between the axes of which is adjustable, so that said band may be stretched to the desired extent.

Pulleys 34 and 35 are carried by shafts common to all bands 9, so that said bands will travel simultaneously and at the same speed. The motion of the shaft 36 on which the pulley 34 is mounted is controlled .bylever 5 which, as it is connected with said shaft throughadevice comprising a ratchet wheel 31, imparts toit, when accomplishing an'idle stroke, a rotation through an adequate angle. A shoe 38 hearing on the edges of endless band 9 presses it against pulley 34. The contact of a finger 8 with the locking device of lever 5 takes place when the finger 8 is in the proximity of shoe 38. The latter presses on endless band 9 through rollers, so that the friction is materially reduced. The locking device for lever 5 is formed as a lever of the first order, the first arm 39 of which is provided with a hook which, when a finger 8 acts on its second arm. 40, which functions as a feeler, may engage a catch 4I rigidly connected with lever 5. Through the action of a lever 42, the feeler 40 may be displaced along its axis of oscillation and brought out of the path of the fingers 8. The locking lever 33 for lever 5 comprises as many feelers 40 as there are endless bands 9, all these feelers being carried by a single shaft 43 and ar. ranged each in front of one of the bands 9.

The machine comprises as many control levers as it has feelers and consequently each lever 42 is situated in front of one of the bands 9.

The jacquard card reading in and punching machine shown in the accompanying drawings and enabling to punch simultaneously several cards, comprises a plurality of machines of the above-described type, arranged side by side, each machine punching jacquard cards for one particular kind (one siz or one quality) of weft threads. The endless bands 9, corresponding to a given twill effect, are arranged one behind another, so that their respective feelers 40 are controlled by the same levers 42. w

The machine is provided with a roller 44 supporting the design 45 and rotating, after the readings and the punchings of each pick of the design, in such a manner that the number of the displacements required for causing the whole height of the pattern to pass, is equal to the number of picks that the designing of this pattern would involve.

The rotation of the roller is controlled by means of a system comprising a ratchet wheel 5I, a paw-1 52 and a lever 53 connected for instance, to the lever 33.

The reading of the design takes place by means of a needle 45 intermittently moved in front of a pick of the design, in such a manner that said needle makes a step on each idle stroke of the lever 5. V I

It is to be understood that the invention is in noway restricted to the above-described embodiment and that numerous modifications may be made therein, among others with respect to the shape, constitution, number and arrangement of its elements without departing from the scope of the present invention.

I claim:

1. A jacquard card reading in and punching machine comprising a number of punches equal to the number of possible needle holes in arow of a jacquard card, a holder for accommodating a card to be punched, the punches being arranged opposite said holder, a lever for displacing said punches, a device for coupling said punches one by one to said lever, a roller adapted to support the design and means for rotating said roller after the reading in and the punching of each pick of the design, in such a manner that the number of the necessary movements to pass the whole of the height of the patternis equal to the number of picks which the designing of said pat: tern would involve, a reading in needle and means formovingsaid needle mtermittentlyopposite a ers can be controlled by the same s'hif-ting'means.

3. A jacquard card reading in and punching machine comprising a number of punches equal to the number of possibl needle "holes in 'a row of a jacquard card, a holder for accommodating a card to be punched, the punches being an ranged opposite said holder, 'a lever 'for displacing said punches, means for coupling said punches one 'by one to said lever, means for actuating said lever, and means for limiting at predetermined times the movement "of said-lever and consequently the displacement of the coupled punch, said limiting means including a device for intermittently locking said lever, a plurality of intermittently moving means, "the "number of which corresponds to the number'o'f weave efiects of the pattern to be transferred to the fabric, and a plurality of fingers on each of said "in-termittently moving means, said fingers being arranged in transverse and longitudinal rows at right angles to each other and each longitudinal finger row corresponding to one weft thread of a particular weave effect and the number 0f lingers in said longitudinal row being at least equal to a predetermined integral factor of the number of points at which the warp threads will overlie such weft thread in such weave effect, said device for intermittently locking said lever being operated by the successive action of said fingers.

4. A jacquard card reading in and punching machine comprising a number of punches equal to the number of possible needle holes in a row of a jacquard card, a holder for accommodating a card to be punched, the punches being arranged opposite said holder, a lever for displacing said punches, means for coupling said punches one by one to said lever, a driving pin on said lever, a guide for said driving pin, 'a rotatable member connected withsaid guide, means forrotating said member at a substantially constant speed, said guide being able, when driven by said rotatable member, to coact with said driving pin to pivot said lever and thus cause the coupled punch to be displaced, and means for limiting at predetermined times the movement-of said lever and consequently "the displacement of the coupled punch, said limiting means including a device for intermittently locking saidlever, a plurality of intermittently moving means, the number of which corresponds to the number of weave effects of the pattern to be transferred to the fabric, and a pluralityof fingers on -each of said intermittently moving means, said fingers being arranged in transverse and longitudinal rows at right angles to each other and eac'h longitudinal finger row corresponding to .one weft thread of a particular'weaveieffect 'and the number of fingers 'in said longitudinal row :being "at least equal to a predetermined integral factor of the number of points :at 'whic'hithe warp threads will overlie such weft thread in suchweaveieffect,

said device for intermittently locking :said :lever being operated by the successive action -;of said fingers.

5. A jacquard icard reading :in and punching machine. comprising :a number of t-pimches equal to the number of possible needle holes in a row of a jacquard card, a holder for accommodating a card to be punched, the punches beingarranged opposite said holder, a lever for displacing Jsaid punches, means for coupling said punches one by one with said lever, a driving pin on said lever, a guide for said driving pin, a rotatablemember connected with said guide, means for rotating said member at a substantially constant speed, said guide being vable, when driven by said rotatable member, to coast with said driving pin to pivot said lever and thus cause the coupled punch to .be displaced, means for limiting the pivoting angle and consequently :the length of thecoupled punchstroke, said limiting means including :a device for intermittently locking said lever, means operable to iactuatezsaid device, a plurality of intermittently moving endless bands, each of which corresponds to one of the weave effects of the pattern to :be transferred to the fabric, a plurality of fingers on each of said endless bands, said fingers being arranged in transverse and longitudinal rows at right angles to eachother and'each longitudinal finger row corresponding to one weft thread-of the weave eiiect, and the number of fingers in said row being at least equal to a predetermined integral factor of the number of points at which the warp threads will overlie such weft thread in such weave effect, said device for intermittently locking said lever being operated by the successive action of saidfingers, said lever, device and operable means being so constructed and arranged that 'said operable means actuates said device to lock said lever at a dead point of its movement to maintain the coupled punch stationary, .and said fingers operate said device to lock said lever at an intermediate'position of its movement to cause the coupled punch to return to its starting point without having punched the jacquard card.

'6. A jacquard card reading in and punching machine-comprising a number of punches equal to the number of possible needle holes in a row of ajacqua'rd card, a holder for accommodating a card to be punched, thepunches being arranged oppcsite said holder, a lever for displacmg said punches, means for coupling said punches one by one with said lever, adriving pin on said lever, a rotatable disc formed in one-side with a circular groove the center of which is on the axis .of rotation of said disc, asubstantially oval-shaped groove, one portion of which merges in :said circular groove and the-other portion of Which reaches near to said 'centera-nd atleast one secondary groove connecting said substantially oval-shaped groove with the circular one, all of saidigrooves being adaptedto-be engaged by said driving pin at predetermined times, yielding means situated at the end ,of the portion common to said circular jgroove-andsaid oval-shaped groove at their bifurcation and at the bifurcation places -of the oval-shaped groove and the secondary grooves, said means being-adapted to normally force said driving pin to follow said oval-shaped groove and consequently to draw nearergtosaid center, but to be broughtaside and to permit said driving pin to enter other vgrooves when it exerts a sufficient pressure, which takes place when the lever carrying said driving .pin is limited in its :normal pivotal movement, means for rotating said disc at a substantially constant speed, the rotation .of said disc causing through the engagement of said driving pin in said grooves, athe pivoting of said :lever and consequentlyfthe displacement of the coupled punch 9. and means for limiting at predetermined times the movement of said lever and consequently the displacement of the coupled punch, said limiting means including a device for intermittently locking said lever, a plurality of intermittently moving means, the number of which corresponds to the number of weave effects of the pattern to be transferred to the fabric, and-a plurality of fingers on each of said intermittently moving means, said fingers being arranged in transverse and longitudinal rows at right angles to each other and each longitudinal finger row corresponding to one weft thread of a particularly weave efiect and the number of fingers in said longitudinal row being at least equal to a predetermined integral factor of the number of points at which the warp threads will overlie such weft thread in such weave effect, said device for intermittently locking said lever being operated by the successive action of said fingers. 7. A jacquard card reading in and punching machine comprising a number ofpunches equal to the number of possible needle holes in a row of a jacquard card, a holderfor accommodating a card to be punched, the punches being arranged adjacent to said holder, a lever for displacing said punches, a drum adapted to couple said punches with said lever for their displacement thereby, said drum carrying a number of tappets equal to that of said punches and evenly spaced apart on the surface of said drum along a helix, said helix extending along the length of a pitch, a piece engageable by said punches and connected to said lever, each of said tappets being adapted to push their respective punches one by one into engagement with said piece, means for actuating said lever, and means for limiting at predetermined times the movement of said lever and consequently the displacement of the coupled punch, said limiting means including a device for intermittently locking said lever, a plurality of intermittently moving means, the number of which corresponds to the number of weave effects of the pattern to be transferred to the fabric, and a plurality of fingers on each of said intermittently moving means, said fingers being arranged in transverse and longitudinal rows at right angles to each other and each longitudinal finger row corresponding to one weft thread of a particular weave effect and the number of fingers in said longitudinal row being at least equal to a predetermined integral factor of the number of such weft thread in such weave effect, said de vice for intermittently locking said lever being operated by the successive action of said fingers.

8. A jacquard card reading in and punching machine comprising a number of punches equal to the number of possible needle holes in a row of a jacquardcard, a holder for accommodating a card to be punched, the punches being arranged adjacent to said holder, a lever for displacing said punches, a drum adapted to couple said punches with said lever'for their displacement thereby, said drum carrying a number of tappets equal to that of said punches and evenly spaced apart on the surface of said drum along a helix, said helix extending along the length of a pitch, a beam extending along the punch row, and

formed with a groove engageable by lugs on said 10 times the movement of said lever and conse quently the displacement of the coupled punch, said limiting means including a device for intermittently locking said lever, a plurality of intermittently moving means, the number of which corresponds to the number of weave effects of the pattern to be transferred to the fabric, and a plurality of fingers on each of said intermittently 9. A jacquard card reading in and punching machine comprising a number of punches equal to the number of possible needle holes in a row of a jacquard card, a holder for accommodating a card to be punched, the punches being arranged adjacent to said holder, a lever for displacing said punches, said lever comprising two parallel arms extending side by' side, a drum adapted to couple said punches with said lever for'their displacement thereby, said drum carrying a number of tappets equal to that of said punches and evenly spaced apart on the surface of said drum along a helix, said helix extending along the length of a pitch, a beam extending along the punch row and formed with a groove engageable by lugs on said punches, the ends of said beam being attached respectively to the said two parallel arms of said lever, each of said tappets being adapted to push their respective punches one by one into engagement with said groove, a driving pin on one arm of said lever, a guide for said driving pin, a rotatable member connected with said guide, means for rotating said member at a substantially constant speed, said guide being able, when driven by said rotatable member, to coact with said driving pin to pivot said lever and thus cause the coupled punch to be displaced, means for limiting at predetermined times the movement of said lever and consequently the displacement of the coupled punch, said limiting means including a device for intermittently looking said lever, a plurality of intermittently moving means, the number of which corresponds to the number of Weave effects of the pattern to be transferred to the fabric, and a plurality of fingers on each of said intermittently moving means, said fingers being arranged in transverse and longitudinal rows at right angles to each other and each longitudinal finger row corresponding to one weft thread of a particular weave eifect and the number of fingers in said longitudinal row being at least equal to a predetermined integral factor of the number of points at which the warp threads will overlie such weft thread in such Weave effect, said device for intermittently locking said lever being operated by the successive action of said fingers.

10. A jacquard card reading in and punching machine comprising a number of punches equal to the number of possible needle holes in a row of a jacquard card, a holder adapted to receive the jacquard card to be punched, means for mov-' one of said punches accomplishes its active stroke,

A jacquard card reading in and punching machine comprisinga number of punches equal to the number of possible needle holes in a row of a jacquard card, a holder adapted to receive the jacquard card to be punched, means for moving said holder intermittently in a direction at a slight angle to the direction of alignment. of said punches, while stopping for a time every time one of said punches accomplishes its active stroke, the punches being arranged opposite said holder, a lever for displacing said punches, means for coupling said punches one by one to saidv lever, means for actuating said lever, and means for limiting at predeterminedtimes th movement of said lever and consequently the displacement. of the coupled punch, said limiting means including a device for intermittently locking said lever, a plurality of intermittently moving means, the

number of which corresponds. to the number of weave effects of the pattern to be, transferred to the fabric, and a plurality of fingers on each of said intermittently moving means, said fingers being arranged in transverse and longitudinal rows at right angles to each other and each longitudinal finger row corresponding to one weft thread of a particular weave effect and the number of fingers in said longitudinal row being at least equal to a predetermined integral factor of the number of points at which the warp threads will overlie such weft thread in such weave effect, said device for intermittently locking said lever being operated by the successive action of said fingers, and the intermittent displacement of said holder being controlled by said lever on the idle stroke of the latter.

A jacquard card reading in and punching machine comprising a number of punches equal to the number of possible needle holes in a row of a jacquard card, a holder opposite. to said punches for accommodating a card to-be punched, an oscillatable lever for displacing saidpunches, means for coupling said punches, one by one to said lever, means for oscillating said lever, a. worm arranged on said holder and extending in the direction of movement of the latter, a ratchet wheel of fixed location threaded. on said worm, a link reoiprocated synchronously with the oscillation of said lever and having a hooked end which. engages a tooth of said ratchet wheel on each idle stroke of said lever and means for limiting at predetermined times the movement of. said lever and consequently the displacement of the coupled punch, said limiting means including a device for intermittently locking said lever, a plurality of intermittently moving means, the n mber of which corresponds to the number of weave effects of the pattern to be transferred to thefabria and a plurality of fingers on each of said intermittently moving means, said fingers being arranged in transverse and longitudinal rows at right a les to each other and each longitudinal finger row corresponding to one weft thread of a particular weave effect and the number of fingers in said longitudinal row being at least equal to a predetermined integral factor of the numberof points at which the warp threads will overlie such weft thread in such weave effect, said device for intermittently locking said lever being operated by the successive action of said fin rs.

A jacquard card reading in and punching machine comprising a number of punches equal to the number of possible needle holes in a row of a jacquard card, a holder opposite said punches for accommodating a card to be punched, a pivotable lever punching means carried by said holder and adapted to punch the peg holes and lacing holes in the jacquard card fitted in said holder, said punching means being adapted to function as holding stops for the said jacquard card during the punching of needle holes therein by said punches, a lever for displacing said punches, means for coupling said punches one by one with said lever, means for actuating said lever, and means for limiting at predetermined times the movement of said lever and consequently the displacement of the coupled punch, said limiting means including a device for intermittently locking said lever, a plurality of intermittently moving means, the number of which corresponds to the number of weave eifects of the pattern to be transferred to the fabric, and a plurality of fingers on each of said intermittently moving means, said fingers being arranged in transverse and longitudinal rows at right angles to each other and each longitudinal finger row corresponding to one weft thread of a particular weave effect and the number of fingers in said longitudinal row being at least equal to a predetermined integral factor of the number of points at which the warp threads will overlie such weft thread in such weave effect, said device for intermittently locking said lever being operated by the successive action of said fingers.

A jacquard card reading in and punching machine comprising a number of punches equal to the number of possible needle holes in a row of a jacquard card, a holder for accommodating a card to be punched, the punches being arranged opposite said holder on a straight line slightly inclined to the direction of the forward motion of the jacquard card in such a manner that when the first punch in the line thereof is opposite a needle hole row of the jacquard card, the last punch in the line thereof is in advance of such needle hole row at a distance therefrom equal to the distance between two successive rows of needle holes on such card, a lever for displacing said punches, means for coupling said punches one by one with said lever, means for actuating said lever, and means for limiting at predetermined times the movement of said lever and consequently the displacement of the coupled punch, said limiting means including a device for intermittently locking said lever, a plurality of intermittently moving means, the number of which in transverse and longitudinal rows at right,

angles to each other and each longitudinal finger row corresponding to one weft thread of a particular weave effect and the number of fingers in said longitudinal row being at least equal to a predetermined integral factor of the number of points at which the warp threads will overlie such weft thread in such weave effect, said device for intermittently locking said lever being operated by the successive action of said fingers.

A jacquard card reading in and punching machine comprising a number of punches equal to the number of possible needle holes in a row of a jacquard card, a holder for accommodating a card to be punched, the punches being arranged opposite said holder, a lever for displacing said punches, means fOr coupling said punches one by one to said lever, means for actuating said lever, and means for limiting the movement of said lever and consequently the displacement of the coupled punch at predetermined times, said limiting means including a device for intermittently locking said lever, means operable to actuate said device, a plurality of intermittently moving endless bands, each of which corresponds to one of the weave effects of the pattern to be transferred to the fabric, a plurality of fingers removably attached to each of said endless bands, said fingers being arranged in transverse and longitudinal rows at right angles to each other and each longitudinal finger row corresponding to one weft thread of a weave effect and the number of fingers in said row being at least equal to a predetermined integral factor of the number of points at which the warp threads will overlie such weft thread in such weave efiect, said device for intermittently locking said lever being operated by the successive action of said fingers, said lever, device and operable means being so constructed and arranged that said operable means actuates said device to lock said lever at a dead point of its movement to maintain the coupled punch stationary, and said fingers operate said device to lock said lever at an intermediate position of its movement to cause the coupled punch to return to its starting point without having punched the jacquard card.

A jacquard card reading in and punching machine comprising a holder for a jacquard card to be punched, means for intermittently punching successive needle holes in the jacquard card supported by said holder, means for progressively setting up said punching means without interruption to punch successive such holes in successive rows in such card, means for intermittently actuating said punching means to punch the needle holes for which it has been set up, and means for preventing said punching means punching needle holes for which it has been set up at predetermined times, said punching and actuating means being so constructed and arranged that said punching means is returned by said actuating means at such predetermined times to its starting point without having punched the jacquard card.
