T he holes and slots on the slide forming the scale are arranged in es rows as there are pins 6 so that for each pin 6 there is acorrcsponding longitudinal scale row, and further the holes of one longiu tudinal hole row are longitudinally displaced relatively to the corresponding holes in the neighboring hole row by a space equal on the pitch of the teeth on the rack 17.

In order to bring the perforation deter,- mining or punch selecting slide 18 back into by the u ovethe pinion 16 to the horizonits zero position in a positive manner and very exactly, a pair of returning nipperaws 21 is arranged over the rack 17, which "is normally open, but can be periodically closed by means of a lever 22 and link 23 upon a pin 24 on the rack 17, which stands vertically below the pivoting point of the nipper-jaws 21. in the zero position of the slide 18. Should for instan'cethe slide 18 be thrust toward the left a distance corresponding to four consecutive teeth divisions of the rack 17, then the hole a: (Fig. 3) of the slide will be under the vertical row of pins (3.
