This invention relates to a new and novel toy spectacle, and more particularly to such a device adapted to be supported upon the face by being frictionally grasped between the eyebrows and the upper portions of the wearers cheeks.

An object of the present invention is to provide a pair of novelty spectacles adapted to be made from a single blank of sheet material, said blank comprising spaced disk-like portions tied together by an elongated strap-like member, and said disk-like portions being formed into cupllke members adapted to be fitted over the eyes of the wearer, the strap-like member being shaped to provided a bridge piece to overlie the nose and maintain the cupshaped portions in alignment with the pupils of the wearers eyes.

A further and more specific object is to provide a pair of novelty spectacles made from a single blank of sheet material, said blank comprising a pair of disk-like members tied together by a suitable strap portion, and the representation of an eye being applied to each disk-like portion, after which said disk-like portions are formed on suitable dies to provide cup-shaped members adapted to be fitted over the eyes of the wearer, and each of said cup-shaped members having an aperture in the center thereof adapted to be aligned with the pupils of the wearers eyes, so that when the spectacles are worn, the wearer may readily see through said apertures whereby he may readily maneuver about without danger of stumbling over objects.

Other objects of the invention reside in the provision of such a device which is extremely simple and inexpensive in construction; in the novel manner in which the eye representations are formed on the cup-shaped members, whereby they impart to the wearers eyes a rather starey grotesque appearance; and in the provision of such a device which substantially conceals the wearer's own eyes, but provides sufl'icient visibility for the wearer to enable him to readily maneuver about from place to place.

These and other objects of the invention and the means for their attainment will be more apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.

In the accompanying drawings there has been disclosed a structure designed to carry out the various objects of the invention, but it is to be understood that the invention is not confined to the exact features shown, as various changes may be made within the scope of the claim which follows.

Figure 1 is a view showing the blank with the representations of the eyes applied thereto;

Figure 2 is a view showing the next step in the formation of the device wherein the connecting strap between the disk-like portions has been formed to provide the nose piece;

Figure 3 is an edge view of Figure 2;

Figure 4 is a view showing the device after the disk-like end portions of the blank have been formed to provide cup-like members adapted to be fitted over the eyes of the wearer, the central portions of the cup-shaped members which constitute the white portions of the eyes, being shown slightly depressed, thereby to accentuate the appearance of the eye-like representations applied to the outer surfaces of the cup-shaped members;

Figure 5 is a longitudinal sectional view on the line 5-5 of Figure 4, showing the marginal edge portions of the cup-shaped members partially upwardly turned;

Figure 6 is a view somewhat similar to Figure 4, but showing the bridge piece bent or enlarged to bring the cup-like members into closer relation to one another;

Figure 7 is a longitudinal sectional view on the line of Figure 6; and

Figure 8 is an end view of the device in the position when worn over the eyes of an individual.

The novel device herein disclosed is shown formed from a single blank of sheet material comprising enlarged disk-like end portions 2 tied together by a strap-like member 3, as best illustrated in Figure 1.

In the formation of the device, the representations of the eyes, including the upper and lower eye lashes 4 and 5, and the iris 6, are applied to the face of each disk 2 by suitable means, well known in the art, after which the strap-like member 3 may be formed to provide a nose piece or bridge 1, as shown in Figure 3. The nose piece I is preferably reinforced by a suitable longitudinally extending bead 8, formed in the metal and which greatly stiifens the bridge piece, as will be understood.

After the blank has been formed, as shown in Figure 3, the disk-like end portions 2 are cupped by suitable dies to provide the cup-like members 9., shown in Figure 5, which are adapted to be fitted over the eyes of the wearer, as shown in Figure 8. Following formation of the cup-shaped members 9, the top wall of each cup member is slightly depressed, as shown at H in Figure 5. The depressions H are preferably in the form of ovals having their longitudinal center lines aligned with the bridge piece 7, whereby they represent the whites of the open eyes.

In the next step or formation of the device, the marginal edges of the cup-shaped members 9 are upwardly turned, as shown at i3 in Figure 5, and then inwardly rolled to provide the rounded edges H3 shown in Figure 7. By referring to Figure 6, it will be noted that the enlarged circular portions 6 ofthe representations of the eyes are centrally apertured-as shown at in Figure 6. These apertures are adapted to be aligned with the pupils of the wearers eyes when he looks straight forwardly, as shown in Figure 8, whereby the Wearers vision is not completely obscured when wearing the device.

The device when worn as shown in Figure 8, imparts to the wearer a very grotesque andstarey look, and substantially conceals his identity. .-In the formation of the device, the upper and lower eye lash portions 4 and"?! are preferably colored black, the depressed portions ll defining the whites,- of the eyes, are,--of course, white,-and the circular portions fi,representing the irisof the eyes, are preferably-blue. The device when made as herein disclosed, is very inexpensive in construction, whereby it may be-manufactured in quantity production at very low-cost. -It maybe-made of any suitable sheet material. In actual practice however ithas-been found that thin gauge sheet metal, which usually is very--inexpens-ive,may readily be-used-in the manufacture ofthis novel device.
