Claims.
This inventionrelat'es to improvements in partitioned tray or holder.
The main objects of this invention are: First; to provide a partitioned tray or holder forms in the packaging and displaying of fragile articles such as bakery products and other products'where compartments are desired and -particularly whereit is desired to use atransparent wrapper facilita-ting the display of the packaged product.
Second-to provide a partitioned tray or holder whichmay be 'formedpf-anintegral blank-and one in which the parts effectively coact in supporting each other in erected position;
Third; .to' provide a structure having these advantages which may be shipped in the knockdown'and quickly erected for use.
Objects relating to details and :economies of the invention will appear from the description, to follow. The inventionis pointed out in the claims.
A preferred embodiment of the invention-is illustratedin theaccompanying drawings, in Which? Fig. 1 is a perspective view. of a completed pack- Fig. 5 is a plan view of the blank of the tray or holder illustrated.
The embodiment of my invention illustrated is formed of a blank cut and scored to provide bottom members I and 2 which are spaced in the blank by the longitudinal partition member 3. The bottom edge of this longitudinal partition member is hingedly connected at 4 to the inner edge of the bottom member I. The longitudinal partition member has spaced slits 5 extending from its upper edge providing a swingable straplike hinge member 6 which is hingedly connected at l to the longitudinal partition member 3 and at 8 to the inner edge of the bottom member 2. When the partition member 3 is swung to erected position, the hinge member 6 swings downwardly on its hinge connection 1 as is shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4 and the bottom member 2 is positioned in edge to edge relation with the bottom member I.
To facilitate engagement of the tongues I4, the longitudinal partition member has diagonal slits ll opening to the slits [3. The resulting tongues l8 on the inner edge of the bottom member 2 are desirablyiturned upright and positioned against the longitudinal partition member as indicated in Figs. 2 and 3 and coact with th hinge member 6 in supporting the inner edge of the bottom member 2111 erected position.
When erected, the trayprovidesa plurality of compartments in which baked goods or other articles such'as indicated at l9 maybe arranged and the loaded trayprovided with a wrapper 20 which is desirably 'of transparent heat scalable material. The side walls in the embodiment illustrated are recessed at 2! to facilitate the displaying of the articles arranged in the two intermediate compartments. While my tray or holder in the embodiment illustrated is especially designed for use in the packaging of baked goods or other fragile articles, it is desirable for use in packaging other articles. The structure may be shipped in the fiat as is shown in Fig. 5 and readily erected, certain of the steps being illustrated in Fig. 3 and when erected, the parts coact with each other to support the tray in erected position. L
I have illustrated and described my invention in a highly practical embodiment thereof. I have not attempted to illustrate or describe other embodiments or adaptations as it is believed that this disclosure will enable those skilled in the its upper edge providing a central swingable strap-like hinge member hingedly connected to the longitudinal partition member and to the in- 4 and to the inner edge of the other bottom member whereby said bottom members may be disposededge to edge with the longitudinal partition member in erected position common to both bot tom members, side wall members hingedly connected to the outer edges of said bottom members, and transverse partition members hingedly connected to the ends of said sidewall members and having tongues on their swinging edges, and said longitudinal partition member having slits therein adapted to receive said tongues with the end edges of the transverse partition members in opposed abutting supporting relation to the lonner edge of the other bottom member, said longi- V tudinal partition member having vertical slits in its upper edge spaced longitudinally from said strap hinge member, side wall members hin edly connected to the outer edges of said bottom members, and transverse partition members hingedly connected to the ends of said side wall members and having tongues on their swinging edges disposed in the said slits in said longitudinal partition member when the tray or holder is erected with the outer edges of the transverse partition members in opposed abutting supporting relation to the longitudinal partition member, the said tongues having depending portions oppositely engaging the longitudinal partition member whereby the side walls and partition members are held in erected position providing a plurality of compartments.
2. A partitioned holder or tray comprising bottom members, a longitudinal partition member intermediate said bottom members and hingedly connected at its bottom edge to the inner edge of one bottom member and having spaced out edges extending downwardly from its upper edge providing a central swingable strap-like hinge member hingedly connected to the longitudinal partition member and to the inner edge of the other bottom member, said longitudinal partition member having vertical slits in its upper edge spaced longitudinally from said strap hinge member, side wall members hingedly connected to the-outer edges of said bottom members, and transverse partition members hingedly connected to the ends of said side wall members and having tongues on their swinging edges disposed in the said slits in said longitudinal partition member whereby the side walls and partition members are held in erected position providing a plurality of compartments.
3. A partitioned holder or tray comprising bottom members, a longitudinal partition member hingedly connected at its bottom edge to the inner edge of one bottom member and having a swingable hinge member hingedly connected thereto gitudinal partition member, said tongues having interlocking engagement with said longitudinal partition member when the tray holder is erected.
4. A partitioned holder or tray comprising bottom members, a longitudinal partition member hingedly connected at its bottom edge to the inner edge of one bottom member and having a swingable hinge member hingedly connected thereto and to the inner edge of the other bottom member whereby said bottom members may be disposed edge to edge with the longitudinal partition member in erected position common to both bottom members, side wall members hingedly connected to the outer edges of said bottom members, and transverse partition members hingedly connected to the ends of said side wall members and having tongues on their swinging edges engageable with said longitudinal partition member with the transverse partition members in supporting and supported relation to the longitudinal partition member.
5. A partitioned holder or tray comprising bottom members, a longitudinal partition member hingedly connected at its bottom edge to the inner edge of one bottom member, saidlongitudinal partition member having a swingable strap-like hinge member swingably connected to the longitudinal partition member and to the inner edge of the other bottom member, side wall members hingedly connected to the outer edges of said bottom members, and transverse partition members hingedly connected to the ends of said side wall members and interlockingly and supportedly engageable with said longitudinal partition member.
