Description

(NoMode'L) M. R. OHAVORE'.
FLOUR vSIFTER.
No. 269,484. Patented June 13, 1882.
NITED STATES MARY R. OHAVORE, OF OOVINGTON, MISSOURI.
FLOUR-SIFTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 259,484, dated June 13, 1882.
Application filed J anuarv 7, 1882,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ll/IARY R CHAVORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Govington, in the county of Pemiscot and State of Missouri, have iuvented'certain new and useful Improvements in Flour-Sifters; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention has relation to flour-sitters; and the novelty consists in the construction of the same, as will be hereinafter more i'ully'described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Figure 1 is a side elevation,in seclion,of my improved sitter; and Fig. 2, a top plan view, with a portion of the cover broken away to show the sieve.
A is a cylindrical casing, provided with a tapering or conical bottom, B, having a central orifice, 0. The cover is hinged in the line of its diameter, and one half, D, is secured to the casiu g, while the other half, E, is hinged thereto, so as to lift for the purpose of admitting the flour or meal, and, when closed, fits closely around the rim of the casing, so as to prevent the flour escaping in the act of shaking and sifting.
G is the ordinary metallic sieve, and is secured in the casing A. It is also provided with cross-bar supports 0 to prevent its sag- (N'o model.)
gingin the middle; and it is further protected around the rim by an inclined collar, H, which also serves to prevent the flour from lodging in the corners, the inclination of the said collar causing the contents to be delivered on the sieve, and thence pass through.
a a are handles for convenience in using.
From the above construction it will thus be seen that flour and the like may be placed in the improved sieve and the cover closed, so that in the act of shaking, for the purpose of sifting, there is no danger of the contents flying out or around over the person of the operator, and the contents, as they pass through the sieve, fall in the funnel-shaped bottom, and through the medium of the central orifice, O, are conducted in a limited space on the table, and here, again, the raising of a dust and the consequent annoyance are thereby prevented.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. As a new article of manufacture, a floursifter having a hinged cover and a contracted exit, as set forth.
2. In a flonr-sifter, the casing A, cover D E, and conical bottom B, having the central orifice, 0, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MARY R. CHAVORE.
