SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 259,403, dated June 13, 1882.

Application filed April 15, 1882.

To all whom t't may concern:

Be it known that we, LOUIS KYSER and ALFRED O. REX, both of the city and county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Toy Money- Boxes, of which the following is a specification.

Our invention has reference to toy moneyboxes; and it consists in an improvement upon Letters Patent granted to us May 31,1881, and numbered 242,139, as will be fully described in the following specification, and is shown in the accompanying drawings, which form part thereof.

The object of our invention is to arrange three or more movable figures upon a box representing an organ, one of said figures being a monkey, and adapted to drop the penny or other money into the box while removing his hat 5 also, to combine with said moving figures two or more bells or their equivalent, which are rung by means of the same mechanism which actuates the figures.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional elevation on line we; of our improved toy money box. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of same on line 3/3 and Fig. 3 is a plan View of the operatin g mechanism.

A is the money-box proper, and is preferably made to represent an organ. Its bottom 0 may be provided with suitable legs, and its top 13 is provided with the aperture D for the deposition of the money.

Secured to the top plate, B, is the figure of a monkey, E, provided with pivoted arms G F, one of which holds a plate, H, and the other a hat. These arms are oscillated by a crank, I, and rod J, the latter of which is connected at the bottom to the crank K on shaft L, which is supported in bearings in the box A. This shaft L is provided with two or more worms, M, and an operating crank-handle, N.

J ournaled in the top plate, B, of the moneybox are worm wheels 0, which work with worms M, and secured to these worm-wheels or their journal are figures of animals, P P-- as, for instance, a cat and a dog sitting upon their haunches.

which there may be any number desired. Pivoted to the sides of the box are the hammers R, adapted to strike the bells Q, and said hammers are actuated by teeth S on shaft L.

The operation is as follows: Upon placing the money upon the plate H and turning the crankhandle N, the figure E drops the money into the box through slot D and takes off his hat, and the figures P P rotate upon their journals. At the same time the figures are moving the hammers Rare operated and strike the bells. There may be any number of figures and any number of bells, and the figures P P may be rotated by other means, as friction-wheels or hands.

Having now described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A toy money-box provided with a stationary figure having a movable hand and adapted to deposit the money through a slot in the box, and one or more figures which do not change their position upon the box but which move thereon, in combination with means to move the arm of said stationary figure to deposit the money and also move the other figure or figures, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

2. A toy money-box provided with a figure adapted to deposit the money, one or more figures supported upon said box and adapted to rotate, means to emit musical sounds upon operating the figures, and operating mechanism, substantially as set forth.

3. In a toy money-box, a receptacle or box provided with a slot, D, in combination with shaft L, provided with crank K, worms M, and pins S, worm-wheels O, figures P, P, and E, pivoted arms F G, crank I, rod J, hammers R, and bells Q, as set forth.

4. In a toy money box, the combination of shaft L, provided with worms M, worm-wheels 0, provided with-figures P P, and the receptacle or box in which the money is deposited, as set forth.
