A IS QWNEV Patented Mar. 25, 1952 Luther L. Rasmussen, "Edinburg, Ind. Application March 11, 1946, Serial No.'653,585
My invention relates to an improved bracelet mounting for watches.
' The; principal object of my invention is toprovide a bracelet mounting for watches that will wenclose-"a watch and protect it from the daily heat and dust and from perspiration of the wearer, and which is adapted to be made waterproof.
Another object of my invention is to provide a bracelet mounting for a watch which includes a cover member of transparent material'which is'adapted to cover the watch and through'which the watch face may be viewed.
Further objects, and objects relating to details and economies of construction will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow. In one instance, I have accomplished the object of my invention by the devices and means set forth in the following specification. My invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the appended claim. Structures, constituting preferred embodiments of my invention, are illus- 1 Claim. (Cl. 224-4) trated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which:
Fig. 1 is a View in side elevation of the bracelet mounting.
Fig. 2 is a right side view of the bracelet mounting.
Fig. 3 is a view in perspective of the bracelet mounting with the cover removed.
Fig. 4 is a view in perspective of the cover.
Fig. 5 is a view in side elevation of a modified form of my invention.
Fig. 6 is a top plan view of the modification shown in Fig. 5.
Fig. 7 is a view in perspective of the wrist band of the modification shown in Fig. 5.
Fig. 8 is a view in perspective of the curved member, hingedly connected to the wrist band for receiving the watch case.
Fig. 9 is a view in perspective of the cover for the watch case.
In the drawings, the same reference numerals refer to the same parts throughout the several views.
In the preferred form of my invention, I show a wrist band which may be formed of a resilient material, such as plastic.
The wrist band has a recess adapted to receive a watch case. A cover is provided with a recess for receiving the upper portion of a watch. This cover is made of a transparent material, so that the watch is enclosed, but may still be viewed through the cover. Thus, the watch is enclosed in a case formed by the cover and wrist band and thereby protected 'from climatic conditio and perspirationof the-wearer.
'In'a modification of my invention, I showa bracelet mounting for a wrist watch which Surrounds the wrist ofthe wearer'and includes a wrist band shaped to fit the wrist and a hinged member pinned to one end of the wristband and adapted to be secured by a clamp :to the other "end of the band. .The hinged member is provided with a recess. for receiving a watch. .A
cover 1' member made .of 'a transparent material is provided'to enclose the watch andprotectiit from climatic conditions and perspiration-of the wearer and by reason of the transparency of the cover the watch is visible.
Referring to Figs. 1 to 4, inclusive, comprising the preferred form of the invention, a wrist band it! is provided which is curved so the internal surface follows the contours of and which substantially encircles the wrist of the wearer, with a recess.l3 for receiving the lower portion of a watch. A notch 14 to receive the stem of the watch is also provided. Holes l5 are provided in the narrower portion or recesses H of the wrist band to receive pins 22 and 23. A cover l6 made of a transparent material, which may be of the form known under the trade names of "Plexiglas or Lucite is provided with a recess l1 adapted to receive the upper portion of the watch. A notch 2| is in the cover I6 adapted to be aligned with the notch M to receive the watch stem. Flanges 20, which form the groove I9 of the cover are adapted to fit over the recesses ll of the wrist band. Holes 18 are drilled in the side walls of the cover in line with the holes I5 in the wrist band and adapted to receive the pins 22 and 23.
In Figs. 5 to 9, inclusive, I show a modified form of my invention having a shorter curved member 25 the internal surface of which follows the contours of a wrist in which the watch is mounted, hingedly connected to the encircling wrist band 24. Wrist band 24 has a projecting lug 26 at one end of the wrist band, through which a hole 28 is drilled, and said lug is received by a notch 31 in the curved member 25 in which the watch case is carried. Holes 32 are provided near the notch end of the curved member 25 in line with the hole 28 of the wrist band to receive a pin 34. The pin 34 acts as a hinge about which the curved member 25 is pivoted in relation to the wrist band 24. The
curved member 25 has a recess 36 in which the lower portion of a watch is carried and has a notch 31 for receiving the winding stem of the watch. The other end of the wrist band 24 is provided with a projecting lug 21 adapted to be received by a, notch 30 in the curved member 25. Holes 33 to receive a, pin 35 are provided in the curved member and the pin 35 is engageable in slot 29 in the projecting lug 21 of the wrist band. Downward pressure on the curved member disengages the pin 35 from the angular slot 29 of the wrist band 24, and permits removal from the wrist of the bracelet. A cover 38 is provided which is shaped to fit the curved member 25 and has notches 40 and M and a recess 42 for receiving the upper portion of the watch. The cover 38 is secured to the curved member 25 by threaded engagement of screws 39 in tapped holes 39a. This cover is made of a transparent material which may be of the form known under the trade names of Plexiglas" or Lucite.
I am aware that the embodiments of my bracelet mounting for wrist watches shown herein are susceptible of considerable variation without departing from the spirit of the invention and, therefore, I claim my invention broadly as indicated by the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A bracelet mounting for a watch comprising the combination of a wrist-engaging body portion having a recess therein of size and shape to 30 receive the lower portion of a watch and a notch in said body portion, a transparent cover member having a recess therein adapted to mate with 4 said first mentioned recess to receive the upper portion of a watch and a notch in said upper portion adapted to mate with a notch in said lower portion to form a stem receiving recess, said cover member having a pair of flanges shaped to fit the contour of the wrist, said flanges adapted to be received in recesses in said body portion and pin members for securing said flange members to said body portion when said covering member is in covering position whereby a watch is carried between said members and the face of said watch is visible through said transparent cover member.
