UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DEXTER M. SMALL, OF EAST PROVIDENCE, RHGDE ISLAND.
DEVICE FOR CARRYING O FF STEAM AND OI J ORS FROM COOKING-VESSELS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 258,950, dated June 6, 1882.
Application filed March 16,1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DEXTER M. SMALL, of East Providence, county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and simple device for carrying off the steam, smoke, and odor of food cooking upon the top of a stove, of which the following is a specification. 4
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings represents a vertical section through the center of my device, the upperportion bein g shown entire. Fig. 2 is a top view of the base, which consists of a lim, A, with an arm, B B, having a passage, O G, therein. This rim, being of the same diameter as the stove-hole and about one-half inch high, extends about one-eighth of an inch below the bottom of the arm B, as represented, so as to rest upon the same shoulder that supports the cover of the stove, the cover being removed. This extension prevents it from sliding too freely around on the top of the stove and makes it fit more closely. The rim could be made larger than the stove-hole and this extension be omitted; but it is far better as represented; and while the entire base can be made of any suitable material, it is preferable to make it of cast-iron and in one piece.
D is a cover, having a tube or pipe, E E, connecting it with the base, and can be made ot'tin or any other suitable material.
- 'The dish containing the food is placed upon the rim A, the cover D being over the dish, and thus the steam is drawn through the pipe E E and passage 0 G into the stove, whence it passes into the chimney.
I claim as my invention The rim A, with the arm B B, having a passage, O O, therein, in combination with the cover D and a pipe or tube connecting them, substantially as described.
