Description

C. M. GAR-BER.
CULINARY Bouma. N'.174,`zz4. Patenteareb. 29,1876. y
lN. PETERS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASRINGTGN, D C:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
CHRISTIAN M.`GARB EIR., OF CARTERSVILLE, VIRGINIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- THIRD HIS RIGHT TO WILLIAM MALLORY, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CULINARY BOILERS.
Specilication forming part of Letters Patent No. 174,224, dated February 29, 1876; application tiled september 20, 1375.
To all whom it may'concern Be it known that l, CHRISTIAN M. GARBER,
. of Cartersville; in the county of Cumberland suitable size and shape to t the interior of the vessel and rest upon the shoulder usually formed at the bot-toml around the portion that sets down into the openings in the top of the stove. Said frame is covered withwire-gauze or equivalent foraminous material, and is strengthened by cross-bars, one of which is bent into a U-shape at the center, forming a downwardlyprojecting leg or standard, of sufficient length to reach the bottom ofthe vessel when the frame is in place and support the central portions of the frame, all of which will be more fully hereinafter specified.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a sectional View of an ordinary boiler with my iinprovements applied to the same and Fig. 2, a detached view ot' the improved frame or support. y
.lhel letter A represents an oval tin boiler adapted to t across the top of a stove, and a the should er formed near the bottom around the upperpart of the well77 a', or that portion of the bottom that sets down into the stove-opening. B C represent a wire frame,
of such shape and size as to fit within the boiler A and rest upon the shoulder ctnear the bottom thereof. Said. frame is provided the food while being cooked, and, while allowing a perfect circulation of the water, elfectually prevents all direct contact of the contents of the boiler with the bottom of the same, ob-
viating all scorching of the food and sticking of the same to the bottom ot' the Vessel, and adding materially to the durability ot' the boiler by preventing the bottom from becoming overheated, as is commonly the case when the articles are in direct contact with its bottom.
My improvement is principally designed to be applied to vessels for cooking vegetables, though it is apparent it may be used with equal advantage With other boilers, such as clotheslboilers and the like. j
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
The frame, constructed of wire, covered with wire-gauze or t'oraminous metal, and provided with cross-bars, one of which is bent downward into the shape of the letter U, forming a supportingleg or standard, the whole adapted to set within 'an ordinary boiler, upon the shoulder near its bottom, the standard or leg resting upon the bottom of the boiler and supporting the frame at the center, substantially as described;
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of the subscribing witnesses.
CHRISTIAN M. GARBER.'
