This invention is directed to, and it is an object to provide, a novelcombination pocket toilet article.

Another object of the invention is to provide a combination pocket toilet article which is compact, heat in appearance, and convenient to use.

A further object of the invention is to provide a combination pocket toilet article including a nail file which is arranged so that the article, which includes a holding clip, may remain secured in the pocket when the nail file is withdrawn for use; or, selectively, the entire unit may be withdrawn from the pocket for use.

An additional object of the invention is to provide a combination pocket toilet article including a nail file wherein the nail file is removably mounted, in connection with the handle of the article, in a novel manner which permits of ease of finger engagement with, and removal of,

' the nail file.

Still another object of the invention is to provide a combination pocket toilet article which is designed for ease and economy of manufacture.

A further object of the invention is to provide a combination pocket toilet article which is practical and reliable, and yet exceedingly efiective for the purpose for which it is designed.

These objects are accomplished by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claim.

In the drawings:

Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the combination pocket toilet article; the view being partly in section and showing the nail file fully inserted in the comb handle.

Fig. 2 is a back edgeelevation of the combination pocket toilet article; the view being partly in section and showing the nail file partially withdrawn.

Fig. 3 is a fragmentary elevation showing the nail file as mounted in connection with and projecting from the handle for use.

Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, the novel, combination pocket toilet article comprises a comb, indicated at I, which comb includes a back 2 and teeth 3.

At its inner end the comb back 2 merges with a shank 4 which is an integral longitudinal extension of said comb back 2; said shank being circular in cross section and projecting, in tight but removable relation, into a tubular handle 5.

, At its outer end the tubular handle 5 is formed with a protective circumferential bead 1, and a holding clip 8, of spring type, is afiixed to the handle 5 exteriorly thereof; the point of attachment being adjacent the protective bead I, and the clip thence extending lengthwise of the handle whereby to engage the outside of a pocket to the end that the device may be securely but removably held in place in said pocket. The handle 5 and clip 8 may be of metal and suitably ornamented to match a pen and pencil set, or the like.

The nail file, indicated generally at 9, comprises a plug 10 adapted to removably engage in the socket 5 in frictional relation, and a relatively short file H, of fiat type, serrated on opposite faces, is fixed in connection with the plug l8 and projects axially from the inner end thereof. The file H is formed with a nail cleaning point l2 on its inner end.

When the nail file 9 is in carrying position, the plug I 0 is seated in the socket 6, and the file H projects into a longitudinal slot I3 in the shank 4.

The depth of socket 6 is lesser than the length of the plug ill, so that even when fully seated in said socket the plug has certain outward projection therefrom. See Fig. 1. The purpose of this projection is to permit of ready .finger engagement with the plug ID to permit of its removal, together with the file II, from thehandle 5.

The nail file 9 is normally in its engaged positionin the pocket 6 of handle 5 of the comb I (as shown in Fig. 1), and the comb is efiectively held in a person's pocket by the clip 8.

If it is desired to use solely the nail file 9 the plug [0 is grasped by the fingers, and the nail file withdrawn from the remainder of the device; the comb 'l togteher wtih the handle 5, remaining in the pocket. Thus, it is not necessary to remove the comb from the pocket before the nail file 9 can be used; the plug It) then serving as its handle. I-Iowever, if desired, the comb may be removed from the pocket and plug Ii] inserted in socket ii with the file l I projecting outward, as in Fig. 3, to provide a larger handle for manipulation of said file.

To use the comb, the entiredevice is removed from the pocket for this purpose, and the nail file 9, being substantially fully enclosed within the handle 5, does not in any way interfere.

The inner end of the tubular handle 5 is 3 notched, as at l4, with the adjacent end of the comb engaged in the notch, to prevent rotation of the handle on shank 4 when the device is in use.

The handle 5 is removable from the shank 4 so that upon comb breakage, a new comb can be substituted and the device continued in use.

The design of the device is such that it is adapted to ready and inexpensive manufacture,

and further the device is quite practical and convenient to-use.

From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that there has been produced such a device as substantially fulfills the objects of the. invention, as set forth herein.

While this specification sets forth in'detailthe; present and preferred constructionof the device,

still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not format-depar- 41 end short of the corresponding end of the handle so as to form a socket opening to the outer end of the handle, a plug adapted to engage in the socket, and a nail file fixed to the plug and pro-, jecting from the inner end thereof; there being a longitudinal slot in the shank into which the nail file extends when the plug is engaged in the socket; the shank being circular in cross section and the tubular handle having a notch in its inner end and the adjacent end of the shank having a lateral projection normally seating in the notch.
