(craze-40o) 1 This invention relates to a dispensing apparatus, and is particularly adapted for dispensing"- toilet articles such as toothpaste or shaving cream from tubes that are flexible and collapsible in nature, it of course being understood that other kinds of paste carried in similar manner may be dispensed equally as well.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a collapsible tube dispensing device which is easily mounted on a wall or other support, and includes a housing for retaining the paste therein in position for dispensing at all times.
A further object of the invention is to so construct the housing that a winding key for compressing the tube contained therein may project externally of the housing to suitable apertured tained on cylinder means and thereby allow the key to be turned as the contents of the tube in said housing diminishes. Another object of the invention is to eliminate the necessity for manual operation of the tube with the attendant possibility ofsmearing or leaving the shavin cream or toothpaste around in the bathroom.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide tension means whereby the loosely fitting tube is retained in position within the container at all times and is always ready to be put into use. And it is a further object of the invention to provide a dispenser that is durable in construc- Ii tion, pleasing to the eye, economical in manufacture and readily operated.
Many other objects and purposes will appear hereinafter from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the dispenser in position on a wall or other retaining means;
Figure 2 is a vertical section taken transversely through the dispenser as viewed on line 22 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a horizontal view of the dispenser and is taken substantially along the line 3-3 in Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a fractional sectional view similar to Figure 2 and is taken at right angles thereto; and
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the key means I employed to reduce the size of the tube retained within the container.
Referring to the figures, the dispenser is indicated generally at I 0 and is cylindrical in construction. Dispenser In is open at the top at l2 and is closed at the bottom thereof at M, bottom I4 containing an annular aperture of consider- 2 able size I 6 to receive the inverted head of a tube therein. A removable cover [8 is frictionally relfl, thereby closing it. While cover l8 has been shown as press-fit, it is obvious any other type of closure construction may be employed, such as threads or the like. Dispenser It includes a pair of oppositely disposed parallel aligned slots 20. Slots 20 extend from the open top of dispenser It and terminate a short distance above the bottom I4.
A tube 22, containing shaving cream or toothpaste or the like, is retained in inverted position within dispenser I 8 so that the shoulders 24 thereof rest upon the perimeter of aperture 16 and the cap 26 thereof depends below bottom H. A suitable key or spool 28 including the usual elongated slit 3i! and thumb knob or finger-piece 32 extends transversely through slot 20 on cylinder l0 and retains within the slit 3B the upper end of tube 22, key 28 remaining in suspension by virtue of engagement with the comparatively rigid tube 22. A bracket 34 is secured by suitable bolts or the like 36 to a Wall or other support; while the opposite end thereof contains an enlarged head 38 welded or otherwise secured to dispenser I!) on the outer surface thereof. Tube 22 is retained in position by means of flexible clips for springs 40 containing a lateral flange 42 riveted at M to the inner wall of container l0 and extending laterally in scroll formation 46 for engagement with theinverted end of tube 22. Thus, it is readily apparent that tube 22 is retained in position at all times while in dispenser I0.
As readily appears from the description above,
cover I8 is removed and a tube to be used is inserted within the interior of dispenser ID in inverted position, sprin 40 serving to retain tube 22 in position for dispensing, with cap 26 extending beneath the bottom l4 through aperture (6. A spool or key 28 then engages the upper extremity of tube 22 and cover I8 is again replaced. When it is desired to remove the contents thereof, cap 26 is removed and spool 28 is given a slight turn by means of knob 32 to force a small portion of the contents thereof out of tube 22. Cap 26 is then replaced and the device is ready to be used again.
It is obvious that any material may be employed in the construction of the dispenser, such as a light metal, plastic, Wood, or the like.
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, it is to be understood that deviations ma be resorted to and do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention as defined by the appended claim. 7
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A dispenser for a tube having a neck portion comprising a substantially cylindrical hollow container open at its top end and having an aperture in its bottom wall for receiving the neck portion of the tube, diametrically opposed elongated slots in the side walls of said container, a 10 key extending through said slots having a knob at one end disposed exteriorly of the container, and a longitudinal slit through said key for receiving the tube, and tenslonmeans carried interiorly of said container for retaining the tube in position in said container, said tension means including diametrically opposed spring ciips secured interiorly of said container adjacent its bottom wall, said spring clips including scroll a 4 portions adapted to bear against diametrically opposed portions of a tube adjacent its neck portion.
