Description

Jan. 29, 1952 J. H. BEYER 2,583,926
DISPLAY DEVICE Filed July 27, 1949 l/o//fv H, @EYE/2 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Jan. 29, `1952 `DISPLAY DEVICE John H. Beyer, Forest Hills, N. Y. Application Juiyylzj, 1949, serial` No. 107,069
The invention relates to an interchangeable two-member display device wherein one member fis a stand having obtuse angled slots and the removable member is formed of a display card or the like and has tabs and linear tab extensions,r
whereby the tab extensions may be turned to one side to permit insertion of the tabs into the an-l gular slots in the stand, the inherent tendency `of the tab extensions to regain their linear position causing frictional engagement of the two members as a unit.
An object of this invention is to provide a modied display card having tabs and tab extensions of lesser height than the tabs, providing a clearance space between the lower face of the display card and the tab extension equal to the thickness of the body of the stand, thereby to permit bending the tab extensions below the stand body and cause a positive interlock between the display card and the stand.
Another object of this invention is to provide a two-member display device which is easily attached and which is easily detached from each other and which is of neat and pleasing appearance.
Another object of this invention is to provide a two-member display device which can be detached from each other and compactly boxed for shipment or bulk storage.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention will be hereinafter more particularly described, and the combination and arrangement of parts will be shown in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims which form part of this specification.
Reference will now be had to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 'in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a display card forming one element of this invention.
Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view of the assembled display device, the section being taken on line 2-2 in Figure 3.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the assembled display device shown in Figure 2, part of the display card being broken away to show an obtuse angled slot passing through a stand formingpart of the display device.
Figure 4 is a front elevation of a modified. display card having tabs and tab extensions of lesser height than the tabs to permit bending of the tab extension below the stand.
Figure `5 is a perspective view of the modied i 2 claims. (C1. 40-10) interlock between the display card andthe stand. VIn the illustrated embodiment of the invention, the numeral I0 indicates an interchange- `able display assembly comprising a display card II' having an elongated linear base I2 and tabs I3 extending lengthwise of and below its base portion.
' The tabs I3 have vertical score lines I4 defining tab extensions I5 which terminate at the `lower edge I6 of the display card II. The display card II is of ornamental form and may have an illustration I1 suitably printed or formed thereon.
The interchangeable display I0 comprises a. stand I8 having through slots I9. The dimensions of the slots are made so that the walls dening the slots frictionally engage the tabs I3 of the display card Il.
`The slots I9 are positioned lengthwise of the stand I8 and have angular wall extensions 20 of the same width. An obtuse angle is formed between the walls of the respective slots, the angle being preferably about one hundred and ten degrees.
The height of the tabs I3 is the same as the thickness of the stand I 8 and when the tabs are inserted into the obtuse angled slots I9, 20. the bottom of the display card II is flush with the bottom of the stand IB.
For the purpose of positively interlocking the display card and the stand in unitary relation and so as to permit variously illustrated display cards to be selectively interlocked with the stand, there is provided a modified structure shown in Figures 4 and 5, wherein a display card 2I has an elongated linear base 22 and tabs 23 extending lengthwise of and below its base portion.
The tabs 23 have vertical score lines 24 deiining tab extensions 25 which terminate at the lower edge 26 of the display card 2I Each tab extension 25 is of lesser height than a tab 23 and provides a clearance space between the lower face of the display card 2| and the tab extension 25 equal to the thickness of the body of a stand 21 which is designed to coact with the modied display card 2|.
The stand 2l has a iiat horizontal body 28 and vertical flanges 29 of a height to permit bending the tab extensions 25 in angular relation with the tabs 23, below the stand body 28, and cause a positive interlock between the display card 2l and the stand 21.
It is to be noted that the display cards have a degree of resiliency whereby the tab extensions have an inherent tendency to regain their linear and assembled display device having a positive b5 position and thereby retain said card and stand 3 in frictional engagement asa two-member unit. This resilient effect is permittedrto operate with the disclosure shown in Figures 1 to 3 inclusive. With the disclosure shown in Figures 4 Y `'and 5, the tab extensions are bent beyond their Y elastic limit and cannot return to normal linear position and thereby function to interlock the display card and the stand.
In accordance with the patent statutes I have Y described and illustrated the preferredV embodiment of lmy invention, but it wl be understood that various Vchanges and modifications can be made therein without departing from the spirit" of the invention as dened by the Vappended claims.
' I claim:
1. In an interchangeable display including a display card having an elongated linear base and downwardly extending tabs and a stand, cooperating fastening means between said display cardw and stand comprising linear extensionsr of Y two member unit.,
2. In an interchangeable display of the char-u acter described including a display card having a pair of downwardly extending and spaced tabs and including a stand, each of said tabs having a linear extension, a pair of obtuse angled slots adapted to receive and frictionally engage the sides of said tabs, each of said tabs having linear extensions foldable into obtuse relation with each of saidrslots and to enter the same, the saidrdisplay ca'rdhaving a degree of resiliency whereby each tab extension hasl an inherent tendency to regain its linear position and thereby retain said card and stand in frctional engagement as a two member unit.
