My present invention relates generally to warp manipulating and feeding let-offs of the tension type for regulating the feed of textile machines or looms, and more specifically to a tension warp let-off for looms employing a spring tension frame including brake shoes for col-action with the brake drums or annular bands of the warp beam, together with a single manual control -de vice for both brakes, to insure uniform weaving of the textile fabric. By the utilization of the simplified let-off mechanism of my invention an even and uniform tension on both of .the brake drums or bands of the warp beam is provided, and the feed is restrictedto the point of the beatup; and because of the simplicity of the let-ofi mechanism the feed may readily be varied for tight or for loose weaving in accord with the weight of the woven cloth or fabric.
My novel let-01f mechanism includes a minimum number of parts that may be manufactured with facility and low cost of production, and the parts may be assembled with convenience and then easily installed, with a minimum expendirture of time and labor, as a component part of standard types of weaving machines.
The invention consists in certain nflvel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will hereinafter be described and more particularly set forth in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated a complete example of a physical embodiment of my invention wherein theparts are combined and arranged in accord with one mode I have devised for the practical application of the principles of my invention. It will however, be understood that changes and alterations are contemplated and may be made in these exemplifying drawings and mechanical structures, within the scope of my claims, without departing from the principles of the invention.
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation at the-rear end of a loom showing the installation of the let-off mechanism of my invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the structure in Fig. 1; and Figure 3 is a rear elevation showing the let-off mechanism.
Figure 4 is a detail sectional-view at line 44 of Fig. 1 showing the presser bar for the rocker device.
In order that the general arrangement and utility of the let-off mechanism may readily be understood I have disclosed in the drawings a portion of the rear end of a loom including the base bar B, and the conventional side frames 1, I, together with the rearwardly extended warp frame 2 having detachable bearings 3 for the transversely extending shaft 11 of the warp beam or cylindrical roll 5. The typical warp beam is provided with annular flanges '6 at its opposite ends which form heads, and the heads are equipped with reduced extensions l, I, and pairs of annular flanges 8, '8, for the brake bands or drums 9, 9, with which the let-.ofi mechanism of my invention co-acts.
' In carrying out my invention each brake band or drum is equipped with a loosely mounted or resilient brake lever l0 that frictionally engages the drum between the flanges forcontrolling the rotary movement of the roller orwarpybeam .5, and the front ends of these levers are anchored on upright stud bolts H, 111., rigid with, as by welding, the warp frame 2., so that the brake levers or brake shoes maybe moved for varying frictional pressure on the brake drums. When a new warp is started the brakes are applied with a predetermined tension, and thereafter only a slight release of the brak ng mechanism is required as the warp is woven out from the beam.
The free ends of the two brake .shoes are each provided with a cross head I3 from which pairs of spring it depend, and each pair or set of springs, at their lower :ends, are attached to .a complementary cross head l5 that is mounted on the free, or rear end, .of atension or rocker arm H5 that is located in parallel-ism withand beneath a brakeshoe.
These rearwardly extending rocker arms are rigidly mounted on the opposite ends of a preferably tubular rock shaft ll located below and extending parallel with the roller or warp beam, and pivotally mounted to rock in bearings l5 mounted on the base B of the loom.
For adjusting the tension of the springs and thereby varying the frictional engagement of the brake shoes on the braked rums or bands to regulate the speed-of the warp feed, an angular presser bar [-9 having a shank 20 is pivoted in a bearing 2| mounted on the base B, and located in position to bear down upon one of the rocker arms [6, and adjusting means is provided as a single control for the jointly operating brakes, by mean of which the presser bar isdepressed-or raised as required.
The presser bar is adjustedto vary the tension of the springs and the frictional engagement of the brake shoes on the brake drums, and as here illustrated I employ a threaded rod 22 that may be adjusted by a hand wheel 23 which is adapted to turn an internally threaded sleeve 24 that is rotatably held in an angle bracket 25 mounted on the frame. The lower end of the.
rod 22 is provided with a yoke through which it is pivotally attached to the shank of the presser bar l9 by a pin 26. The hub 21 of the hand wheel 23 is attached to the upper end of the sleeve 24 by a stud 28 that is rotatably mounted in the horizontal leg 29 of the angle bracket 25.
The positions of the rocker arms I6 may, therefore, be adjusted by turning the hand wheel 23 which turns the sleeve 24 and screws the sleeve upward or downward on the rod 22.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a loom, a warp roll, a shaft rotatably mounted in warp frames extended from posts at the ends of the loom frame on which the warp roll is positioned, a transversely disposed shaft rotatably mounted in the end of said loom frame, said shaft having outwardly extended horizontally disposed rocker arms on the ends thereof, horizontally disposed brake levers attached to said warp frames parallel to the said rocker arms and extended across the ends of said warp roll shaft for frictlonally engaging said shaft to provide braking means for the roll, springs connecting the outer end of the said brake levers and rocker arms on the opposite sides of the loom respectively, and means adjusting the tension on said springs.
2. In a loom tension attachment, the combination which comprises a loom frame having vertically disposed posts at one end, rearwardly extended warp frames positioned on the posts of the loom frame, a warp roll having brake drums on the ends journaled in said warp frames, brake levers adjustably attached to said warp frames positioned to coact with said drums and extended rearwardly from said loom frame, a transversely disposed shaft journaled on said loom frame, rocker arms substantially parallel to the said brake levers extended rearwardly from the said transversely disposed shaft, resilient means connecting the ends of said rocker arms to the ends of said brake levers, and means adjusting the ends of said rocker arms to control the tension on the said brake drums of the warp roll simultaneously.
3. In a loom tension attachment, the combination which comprises a loom frame having vertically disposed posts at one end, rearwardly extended warp frames positioned on the posts of the loom frame, a warp roll having brake drums on the ends journaled in said warp frames, brake levers adjustably attached to said warp frames positioned to coact with said drums and extended rearwardly from said loom frame, a transversely disposed shaft journaled on said loom frame, rocker arms substantially parallel to the said brake levers extended rearwardly from the said transversely disposed shaft, resilient means connecting the ends of said rocker arms to the ends of said brake levers, a pressure bar pivotally mounted on the said loom frame and positioned with an extended end thereof resting upon one of the said rocker arms, and. a vertically disposed extensible screw carried by the loom frame and attached to the said pressure bar for controlling the tension on the warp roll of the said loom.
4. In a loom tension attachment, the combination which comprises a loom frame having vertically disposed posts at one end, rearwardly extended warp frames positioned on the posts of the loom frame, a warp roll having brake drums on the ends journaled in said warp frames, brake levers adjustably attached to said warp frames positioned to coact with said drums and extended rearwardly from said loom frame, a transversely disposed shaft journaled on said loom frame, rocker arms substantially parallel to the said brake levers extended rearwardly from the said transversely disposed shaft, resilient means connecting the ends of said rocker arms to the ends of said brake levers, a pressure bar pivotally mounted on the said loom frame and positioned with an extended end thereof resting upon one of the said rocker arms, a vertically disposed screw pivotally attached to the said pressure bar, an internally threaded sleeve threaded on the said screw and having a hand wheel on the upper end thereof, and means rotatably mounting the said sleeve on the adjacent post of the said loom frame.
5. In a loom tension attachment, the combination which comprises a loom frame having vertically disposed posts at one end, rearwardly extended warp frames positioned on the posts of the loom frame, a warp roll having brake drums on the ends journaled in said warp frames, brake levers adjustably attached to said warp frames positioned to coact with said drums and extended rearwardly from said loom frame, a transversely disposed shaft journaled on said loom frame, rocker arms substantially parallel to the said brake levers extended rearwardly from the said transversely disposed shaft, said brake levers and rocker arms having cross bars on the ends thereof, a pair of springs connecting the ends. of the cross bars for connecting the ends of said rocker arms to the ends of said brake levers, a pressure bar pivotally mounted on the said loom frame and positioned with an extended end thereof resting upon one of the said rocker arms, a vertically disposed screw pivotally attached to the said pressure ban-an internally threaded sleeve threaded on the said screw and having a hand wheel on the upper end thereof, and means rotatably mounting the said sleeve on the adjacent post of the said loom frame.
