A valve assembly, designated as a whole by the numeral 30, is pendently supported within the valve body [0 from the hub shaped housing 25 by suitablemeans, such as the bolts 51, shown in Figure 2.
The valve assembly 30 includes a cylindrically shaped valve Support 32 axially disposed within the valve body I0' and extending downwardly from the hub shaped housing 25, with which it is in register, through the chambers 16 and |1-into the discharge mouth I3. A removable cover plate 33 forms a closure for the lower end of the cylindrically shaped valve support 32.
Telescopically mounted on the valve support 32 and supported thereon in a manner herein-v after described, is a lower valve 34 arrangedito seat upwardly against the lowervalve seat'22; Similarly mounted and supported on the valve support 32 is an upper valve 35 arranged to seat upwardly against the upper valve seat 19 Referring particularly to Figure 4, the lower valve 34 comprises a cylindrical sleeve-like upper portion 36 arranged in telescoping engagement with the valve support 32, a flared skirt portion continuing to an inwardly tapering portion 38 and terminating in a sleeve 39 arranged in bolts 41, shown in Figure 1, is a packing retain "ing ring 48 arranged to receive suitable packing 49. The packing 49 embraces the cylindrical portion 36 of the lower valve 34 providing a seal against leakage of pressure and coal dust from the chamber 11 past the cylindrical valve portion 36.
A packing" retaining 'ring 50 embracing the cylindrical portion 43 of the upper valve 35, is secured in any suitable manner as by the bolts 5|, shown in Figure 1, to the annular flange 52 which is formed with and projects outwardly of the upper end of the valve support 32. Suitable packing 53 within; the retaining ring provides a seal against leakage of coal dust past the cylindrical valve portion 43.
Upper and lower valves 35 and 34 are operated by hydraulic motors 54 and 55, respective- 1y, disposed one above the other within the valve support 32; The upper hydraulic motor 54 comprises/a cylinder56 having a' piston 51 reciprocable 1 therein and' arranged to be actuated in opposite directions by hydraulic'fluid. Similarly,
the lower hydraulic motor comprises a cylinder 58 having a piston 59 reciprocabletherein and arranged to be actuated in opposite directions by hydraulic fluid.
Theup'per motor cylinder 56 is closed at'its upper end by a cylinder head 60 and the lower motor cylinder 58 is closed at its lower end by a cylinder head 6|. Acylinder head 62 'common to the two hydraulic motors '54 and 55, forms a closure'for the adjacentlower and upper ends,

In order to :facilitate discharge of coal :Irom the :chamber :I'I through the discharge mouth 11-8 and into the pressurized meceptacle I2 when the lower 'feed valve 34 opens,=valv,e controlled means is provided ,for introducing air under pressure into the chamber 1;! above the charge of coal disposed therein. Valve controlled means iszalso provided for venting or exhausting the pressure trapped -.in chamber I! after the :coal :has been discharged therefrom andthelowerifeed valve 34 has .closed, and :before the upper yfeed wvalve 35 has ireopened.

Internally, the valve I29 is provided with a seat I34 for. receiving the valve member I35,
and a spring I30 normally'ret'ains the valve mem-. ber I in its seated or closed position. The valve stem'I3'I of valve member I35 extends through the lower sleeve portion I38, which forms a guide for the valve stem I31. The lower end of the valve stem I31 projects into the housing I05 and carries a cam follower I39 responsive to a cam I mounted on the cam operating shaft I04. An interval later cam shoulder I43 of cam;
I25 engages cam follower I24 and effects opening of pressurizing valve II5 whereby fluid under pressure as high or preferably higher than the pressure in the tank or receptacle I2 is admitted to chamber I'I through the jet openings II2. Thereafter, cam shoulder I42 of cam I03 disengages cam follower H0 and effects operation of distributing valve IN to a position providing for passage of pressurefluid through pipe 92 to the upper end of the cylinder 58 of hydraulic motor 55, whereby lower feed valve 34 is opened. Both feed valve 34 and pressurizing valve II5 remain open for an interval, during which coal drops from chamber II into receptacle I2. Since the pressure on the head of coal in chamber I! is at least equal to the pressure in receptacle I2. the coal freely empties from the chamber I1, and the jets of pressure fluid issuing from the jet openings II2 further facilitate discharge of .coal from the chamber I'I.
Upon further rotation of cam shaft I04, cam shoulder I43 of cam I25 disengages cam follower, I24 whereupon spring I2I closes the pressurizing valve II5. Following this, cam shoulder I42 of cam I03 engages cam follower H0 and efiects operation of distributing valve IM to a position whereby pressure fluid is admitted through pipe 93 beneath piston 59 of hydraulic motor 55 and pressure fluid above the piston 59 is vented through pipe 92, whereupon lower feed valve 34 closes.
The above cycle of operations is repeated for each revolution of the cam shaft I04. The cams I02, I03, I25 and I40 may bemodifled to alterthe timing of the valves, however, at all times. the lower feed valve '34 should be fully closed before the upper feed valve 35 opens; the upper feed valve 35 should be fully closed before the lower feed valve opens; the pressurizing valve I I5 should be fully closed before upper feed valve 35 opens; and vent valve I29 should be fully closed while lower feed valve 34 is open.-
I claim:
l 1. In a material feeding device, a body providing a pressure chamber between two valve seats, a valve support extending lengthwise through said chamber forming between the periphery of said support and said valve seats an annular inlet to the said chamber and an annular outlet from the said chamber, an annular inlet. valve extending. about said support movable lengthwise therealong and cooperating with one of said seats to control said annular inlet, an annular outlet valve extending about said sup-. port movable lengthwise, therealong and cooperating with the other of said valve seats to control said annular outlet, valve operating means within said valve supportfor actuating said valves, said valve support being open at its lower end provid ing access to said operating means without disassembling said valves, and a removable cover for said opening: y

In a material feeding device, a body provid-i ing a pressure'chamber between two valve seats, an inlet valve movable lengthwise to the chamber and cooperating with one of said valve seats to control'the inlet to said chamber, an outlet valve movable lengthwise to the chamber and cooperating with the other of said valve seats to control the outlet from said chamber, a valve support lengthwise to the chamber, valve operating means within'said' valve support including pressure fluid cylinders disposed one above the other arida'common cylinder head" for theadja-i cent ends of said cylinders, and means rigidly securing said cylinder head with said valve support for supporting said valve operating means within said valve support.
3. In a material feeding device, a body providing a pressure chamber between two valve seats. an inlet feed valve cooperating with one of said valve seats to control the inlet to said chamber, an outlet feed valve cooperating with the other of said valve seats to control the outlet from said chamber, a valve support in said chamber movably supporting said inlet and outlet feed valves, pressure fluid operated motors in said valve support for actuating said inlet feed valve and outlet feed valves, a pair of pressure fluid distributing valves outside said body for controlling the operation of said motors, means including a valve connecting said chamber with a source of pressure, means including a valve for venting said chamber, a rotatable shaft outside said body, and a plurality of cams on said shaft arranged 10 to successively contact the stems of said distributing valves, pressurizing valve and vent valve forxs'equential operation thereof.
4. A construction according to claim 3, in which the cams are arranged about said cam shaft to efiect for each revolution thereof sequential operation as follows, opening of said vent valve, opening of said inlet reed valve, closing of said vent valve, closing of said inlet feed valve, opening or said pressurizing valve, opening of said outlet feed valve, closing of said pressurizing valve and closing of said outlet feed valve.
