This invention relates Ato a stripping 'knife `arrangement r*for stripping from a .roller material which has been deposited thereon and Aremoving it from such roller :in sheet-formation, and it has for its object to cause the Astripping ,knife `to .make a sensitive contact, ,and .follow without effort the surface of the roller under all conditions whether the roller is truly iormed `and fis running truly, or vis subject to some defect .either in construction or in runnin-g as for example in the event of it not being circular, or Anotrunning truly, or partaking of ak 'lateral :movement due to play between .the .roller vnecks and their bearings and .also to Yenable the vknife to expand or Ycontract freely when .affected by 'variations vin temperature which may be caused by the knife edgecontacting with a 'hot .roller and material .intermittently or otherwise whilst vstill retaining its :sensitivity Aof contact when in Contact with the roll-er, and to .prevent `the knife from lbecoming'distorted in the event of ,pressure being applied. to it by a screw or other positive means, also to enable the .knife to be capable of being quickly and easily .moved to an operative position oran inoperative position inrelation to the Iroller and to enable the amount of .pressure that the knife exerts against the roller to be easily and accurately adjusted and when adjusted to exert that pressure each time it is moved. to `its, operative position, without requiring further adjustment.
With the above Vandother objects in view the invention consists .in the novel feature of construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter ful-ly set fforth and .pointed `out in the subject .matter being claimed and shown in 'the accompanying drawings wherein:

A, IB .indicate a pair of rollers on th top vand between the .nip of which the 'material "to "be converted into sheet 'formation 'is v.placed in a plastic condition. Thse rollers revolve 'in the directions indicated by the arrows in Fig. 1 and they are both heated, the roller AB being heated to a higher temperature than the roller A, the 'result ybeing that the material clings `to the roller B. The roller A is supposed to be mounted in xed bear-ings and the 'roller B in movable bearings which allow it to be adjusted towards and away .from the roller A in order to regulate 'the thickness of the material that lis deposited thereon and which has to Vbe stripped therefrom "by the stripping knife C. This knife is fixed to a .pivot bar .D by screws Dl which .pass through countersunk Vclearance .holes C1 in the knife and through tapped holes in the pivot ybar D. 'The endsjofwthe latter are formed with journal pins D2 which are free to turn in bearings in plates E that -`areiixed to the roller bearing blocks 'F in which the journals B`1 of the roller .B are journalled.
Screwed or .otherwise attached to the pivot'bar D are two rails G which may be T-shaped in cross section as shown in Fig. 4 and attached to these rails 'are two open rectangular frames G1 consisting of .longitudinal and transverse members. These rails extend transversely across the pivot bar -at each side -of the pivot D2 .and are rinterconnected by a 4member G`2 and constitute with such pivot a two-armed lever device `having a short arm and along arm and extending through the openings in the frames 4is a shaft Hon the ends -of which are .fixed .rollers H1 which 'are Yfree to ru-n along the .rails G asshown in Fig. 4 and act as weights.
Fixed to each frame G1 is a transverse member J which -acts as a stop vfor the roller shaft and can be fixed in any one of .a number of different rpositions by means of bolts J1 passed through any one of` a number of Aholes G3, Fig. l, in the longitudinal members and secured by nuts J3, Fig. 4.
With this arrangement when the rollers H1 occupy a position on the short arms of the rails G they tilt the pivot bar D to move the knife C out of contact with the roller B as shown by the dotted lines inFig. 1.
To bring the knife .into Contact with the roller the `long arm or arms of the rails are moved downwardly by hand o'r otherwise until they incline 4in the opposite direction and the weight- `ing rollers then .run down the Vrails by gravity and cause the knife ,to bear against the surface of the roller with a .pressure which is determined by the stops J which can be iixed in any adjusted position along the long arm of the rail or rails to limit the `travel of the weighted roller or rollers. K .If desired sliding Yweights may be substituted for the rollers "H1 and one or more intermediate wei'ghtsm'ay be xed on the shaft H.
What claim as my invention and desire to secure 'by Letters Patent of the UnitedStates is:
l. In a roller stripping apparatus comprising support means and having a stripping roller .rotatably supported by the support means, the combination o'f a lpair of bearings mounted on said support means in 'axial parallelism with the stripping roller; a stripping knife having 'end portions "forming a pivot axis pivot'ally mounted in said bearings 'to be rockable toward and 'away from said stripping roller, said stripping knife 'being radially pendant from said ,pivot axis; an elongatednrockin'g Aframe rigid with the upper 'portion "o'f said stripping knife and extending mined distance in the opposite direction past said pivot axis away from said stripping roller; a movable weight member supported on said rocking frame and adapted to move upon the latter from one side of said pivot axis to the other side thereof; and means for guiding said weight member in movement on said rocking frame.
2. In a roller stripping apparatus comprising support means and having a stripping roller rotatably supported by the support means, the combination of a pair of bearings mounted on said support means in axial parallelism with the stripping roller; a pivot bar parallel to said stripping roller terminating in a pair of journal pins extending rotatably into the bearings; a stripping knife rigidly secured to said pivot bar in parallelism with said stripping roller and pendantly rockable toward and away from the same stripping roller; an elongated rocking framev rigid with the upper portion of said stripping knife and extending transversely across the latter a predetermined distance inwardly past the pivot axis thereof toward said stripping roller and also a predetermined distance in the opposite direction past said pivot axis away from said stripping roller; a travelling weight member movably supported on said rocking frame and adapted to move upon thelatter from one side of said pivot axis to the other side thereof; and means for guiding said weight member in movement on said rocking frame.
3. In a roller stripping apparatus comprising support means and having a stripping roller rotatably supported by the support means, the
combination of a pair of bearings mounted on said support means in axial parallelism with the stripping roller; a pivot bar parallel to said stripping roller terminating in a pair of journal pins extending rotatably into the bearings; a stripping knife rigidly secured to said pivot bar in parallelism with said stripping roller and pendantly rockable toward and away from the same stripping roller; a substantially straight elongated rocking frame rigidly secured upon the pivot bar and forming a runway extending transversely across said pivot bar a predetermined distance inwardly past the pivot axis thereof toward said stripping roller and a predetermined distance in the opposite direction past said pivot axis away lfrom said stripping roller; a movable weight member supported on said rocking frame and adapted to move upon the latter from one side of said pivot axis to the other side thereof; and means for guiding said weight member in movement on said rocking frame or runway.

In a roller stripping Vapparatus comprising support means and having a stripping roller rotatably supported by the support means, the combination of a pair of bearings adjustably mounted on said support means in axial parallelt ism with the stripping roller; a pivot bar parallel to said stripping roller` terminating in a pair of journal pins extending rotatably into the bearings; a stripping knife rigidly secured to said pivot bar in parallelism with said stripping roller and pendantly rockable toward and away from the same stripping roller; a pair of substantially vstraight parallel rails rigidly secured upon the pivot bar and extending transversely across the latter, the two parallel rails being interconnected and forming together with the pivot pin upon said l pivot bar a two-armed rocking lever device of the rst order having two short lever arms extending toward said stripping roller and two relatively longer lever arms extending away from the latter; two open rectangular and elongated frames extendingalong and xed upon said rails in mutual parallelism; a shaft extending freely through the openings in the elongated frames in parallelism with said stripping roller; and a pair of weight rollers fixed on said shaft in spaced apart relation and resting on said rails in such manner as to be free to roll along these rails when the latter are tilted in one direction or the other and effective to retain the stripping knife in substantially tangent stripping contact with said stripping roller when the rails and elongated frames are tilted down at the outer end of the lever device remote from said stripping roller and to rock said stripping knife out of contact with said stripping roller when said rails and elongated frames are tilted in the opposite direction.
5. In a roller stripping apparatus comprising support means and having a stripping roller rotatably supported by the support means, the combination of a pair of bearings adjustably mounted on said support means in axial parallelism with the stripping roller; a pivot bar parallel to said stripping roller terminating in a pair of journal pins extending rotatably in the bearings; a stripping knife rigidly secured to said pivot bar in parallelism with said stripping roller and ,pendantly rockable toward and away from the same stripping roller; a pair of substantially straight parallel rails rigidly secured upon the pivot bar and extending transversely across the latter, the two parallel rails being interconnected and forming together with the pivot pin upon said pivot bar a two-armed rocking lever device of the rst order having two short lever arms extending toward said stripping roller and two relatively longer lever arms extending away from the latter; two open rectangular and elongated frames extending along and fixed upon said rails in mutual parallelism; a shaft extending freely through the openings in the elongated frames in parallelism with said stripping roller; a pair of weight rollers xed on said shaft in spaced apart relation and resting on said rails in such manner as to be free to roll along these rails when the latter are tilted in one direction or the other and effective to retain the stripping knife in substantially tangent stripping contact with said stripping roller when the rails and elongated .along said longer lever arms or rails, in order to regulate the amount of pressure to be exerted by the stripping knife on the stripping roller for performing the stripping operation.
