2 claims. (01.'223-97) This invention relates to a hanger or support for a fur scarf or neckpiece. Such neckpieces are now commonly made from the skin of one or more animals, such as mink, sable, etc. common practice to have a clasp at the end of the scarf formed by the head of the animal and e this clasp is usually in the form of a lever pivot-ed intermediate its ends for vertical swinging movement and being spring pressed to closed position. Said lever usually has a short end which is pressed down with the thumb or finger to open the clasp which is formed by the longer end of the lever.

It is an object of this invention to provide a simple and very eflicient device for holding a scari` or neckpiece and by means of which it may be supported.

It is a further object of the invention to provide a hanger for a fur neckpiece, which neckpiece has a clasp comprising a lever pivoted intermediate its ends for swingingT movement, said device having a portion adapted to extend around the pivot of said lever, said portion having an upstanding part adapted to engage the side of said lever, said device extending away from said lever and having means at its other end adapted to engage over a support.

It is a further object of theinvention to provide a support for va fur neck piece, which neckpiece has a clasp comprising a lever pivoted ade jacent one end for vertical swinging movement and spring pressed to urge the other end of said lever downwardly, said device comprising a platelike member having a recess at one side thereof adjacent one end forming a, hook-like portion at -said end adapted to extend about said pivot beneath said lever, said device extending in the plane of said lever beneath the same so as to be gripped by the long end of said member and being formed at its other end to engage over a support.

It is more specifically an object of the invention to provide a hanger for a fur neckpiece, which neckpiece has a clasp comprising a swinging lever, said device comprising a plate having a recess in one end so that it can be disposed beneath said lever with the pivot of the lever disposed in said recess, said plate extending away from said lever in tapered form and being transversely bent at its other end to extend over a support.

It is also an object of the invention to provide such a device as set forth in the preceding paragraph, said plate having anges at one side disposed substantially at right angles thereto adapt- It is a ed to be disposed at opposite sides ofsaid pivot and engage one side oi said lever, the outer of said iianges being elongated and forming a reenforcement.

These and other objects and advantages of the invention will be fully set forth in the following description made in connection with the accompanying drawings in which like reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views and in which:

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device.

v Referring to the drawing, one end of a fur neckpiece I0 is shown, said end comprising the head 10a of the animal from which the neckpiece s formed. Said neckpiece has a clasp the jaw of which is formed by the snout portion Illb of head Ia. A lever II is mounted at the underside of the head Illa substantially centrally thereof transversely and is mounted for swinging movement about a pivot I2 secured in said head portion, said pivot being somewhat closer to the inner end of said lever than to the outer end thereof and being embraced by a spring I3 which tends to move the outer end of said lever against the snout Ib. The clasp can be opened by pressing on the inner end Ila of lever II with the thumb or finger. It is a common practice in wearing such a neckpiece to place the same around the neck and engage the neckpiece adjacent the other end in the clasp formed by member Il.

In accordance with the present invention the device I4 is provided and while the same might be variously formed, in the embodiment of the invention illustrated it is shown as formed from a comparatively thin but rigid plate of metal or other material. The main portion I 4a of the member i4 is in one plane and has a recess Mb formed therein at one side thus forming a hooklike portion Mc at one end of said member, said portion Mc having its end I 4d bent upwardly substantially at a right angle to the plane of portion I 4a. A ange I4e is formed along one side of member I ll and extends substantially rat right angles to the plane of portion Ida, said iiange tapering toward the end of the device opposite the hook portion I 4c. The device I4 has means at its upper end to engage over a support and while this could take various forms, in the embodiment of the invention illustrated plate I4 is reversely curved transversely to have the end hook portion Hf adapted to extend over a rod or other support. Portion IlIf is in the same plane as portion I4a.

In operation the member I4 will be held by the upper portion thereof or the portion adjacent the hook portion IM and the hook portion flic will be placed around and under the inner end of member II. The end IIa of member II will now be pressed upon and the other end of the lever raised and the member I4 passed under the outer end of member Yi I so that portion Ma is now disposed beneath the lever II and the hook portion idc extends about the inner end thereof engaging the pivoted portion of the lever. The upturned portion or flange IlId engages the side of lever II, as shown in Fig. l and the flange I 4e also engages the same side of the lever at the opposite side of pivot I2. The member Ill extends, away from the scarf substantially in longitudinal valignment with member I I, as shown in Fig. l, and it can now be hung over a rod I5 or other support in a closet or other location where it is desired to hang the neckpiece. The portion Ma is tightly gripped by the longer end of member I-I, and as stated, the flanges Idd and Ide engaging the side of the lever prevent the device from swinging out of alignment with the lever. The pivot I2 and its support is received in the hook Iilc and when the side or" lever il engages the ilanges ille and- Idd the scarf cannot move toward the open end of the recess in hook Ille so that the scarf is securely held in position and its weight will insure that it cannot get out of the hook I4c. The flat bottom side of the lever II and the fiat bottom on the portion lab of the scarf engage opposite sides of the pla-te I4 and prevent any twisting action of the scarf. A very secure hold or attachment is thus had by the device on the neckpiece. The device can he very quickly and easily attached to the neckpiece and just as easily and quickly detached.

From the above description it will be seen that I have provided a simple and highly efcient hanger for a fur neckpiece. The device is easily and inexpensively made, the same has been amply demonstrated in actual practice, found to be Very successful and efficient and is being ccmrnercially made.

It will of course be understood that various changes may be made in the form, details, arrangement and proportions of the parts, without departing from the scope of applicants invention, which generally stated, consists in a device capable of carrying out the objects above set forth, in the parts and combinations of parts disclosed and .dened in the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. A hanger for a fur piece which has va clasp secured thereto comprising a lever oscillatable about a pvot intermediate its ends, said lever and fur piece having flat adjacent sides; said hanger comprising a narrow rigid elongated flat plate disposed in one plane and having a recess therein at one end forming a laterally `directed hook at said end, the other end of said plate being formed as a larger hook for supporting said hanger, said plate having a iange along one side thereof intermediate said hooks and a flange along the end of said laterally directed hook, said flanges being disposed substantially at right angles to said plate whereby said pivot and its support can be received in said recess and the side ci said lever can engage said flanges to pref' vent any lateral movement of the fur piece relative to the hanger.

2. The structure set forth in claim 1, said recess or bight in said rst mentioned hook being small so as to be adapted to substantially embrace said pivot, the center of said recess or bight in said first mentioned hook being disposed substantially in the longitudinal center line of said plate whereby when said fur piece is suspended on said hanger the longitudinal center line thereof is substantially vertical and in substantial alignment with said center line of said plate.
