FUR SCARF HANGER Filed May 4. 1929 l/VWE/VT'OE GOUAT DAV! 50 N 7 ORA/EV Patented Nov. 15, 1932 UNITED Gomr DAVISON, or ST. LOUIS, rnssounr run sonar HANGER Applicatibn filed may 4, 1929. Serial 1%. 360,358.
My invention relates to improvements in a fur scarf hanger, and has among its objects, the production of such a hanger whichshall be simple, neat and attractive in appearance,
economically made, easy to put on or take off the scarf, and eflicient and satisfactory for use wherever found applicable.
Many other objects and advantages ofthe constructionherein shown and provided will 10 be obvious to those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains, from the disclosures herein given.-
To this end, my invention consists in the I novel construction, arrangement and-combination of parts herein shown and described,- and uses mentioned, and more particularly pointed out in the claims. y
In the drawing, wherein like reference characters indicate like or corresponding parts throughout the views,
Figure ,1 is an elevation of'my improved creased. My invention provides for a device that is intended to be attachedtoone end of. the fur scarf, whereby the scarf may be suspended or supported from said end, not only preventing friction between the fur and support, but permitting the air to come into contact with the'furat every point, further adding to its life and keeping it in perfect appearance and shape.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, wherein I have illustrated a preferred embodiment of my invention, A indicates a fur scarf or choker, the same being provided at one end of the same with a clip fastener, jaw spring or the like, whereby the other end of the scarf may be clamped or gripped to hold the scarf in place while on the per- 50 son.
' As friction is very harmful tofurs, it is Such fastener meansincludes abar piece 1, pivotedintermediate' its ends, as at2, to the rest of the fastener structure. A springer other suitable means is generally provided for normally urging one of the ends, as for example the outermost 0r uppermost end of the bar piece, into clamping position, s that when releasing the piece from clamping position itis necessary to press downwardly upon the other or innermost end of the 'piecel v g V The hanger'is preferably ofa single piece of material, preferably flexible, such-as of leather, fibre board, heavy fabric, orthelike, of elongated shape, as'jat 3. V r v s 1 r The strip of material is provided with a pair of openings f1 a'nd;5, intermediate its ends said openings being spaced apart longitudinally along thehan'ger strip. The openings are substantially or the same maximum width, the opening 4, whi ch may be, termed the uppermost opening, asip is uppermost when the hanger is in its supporting prams-1 pending position asshown, being uniform width, but the lowermost opening'e pref erably being tapered s'ojas to gradually dee crease'in its width toward its upper portion, saidopeninge thus formed being somewhat triangular in shape. l Vhen positioning the-han er to suspend the fur-scarf, the opening 4 is rst placedover the: outermost end of the elongatejd fastener bar 1, said barbeing pivotally a ctuatedif' necessary,so as to permit the opening are slip past said end'of the bar 1; The hanger strip is then pulled downTunti'lthe'bottom edge of the opening 5 passes thelowermost or" innermost end of the'bar' 1, as shown in theidott'ed line position in Fig. 2, whereupon the lower end of thestripis pressed inwardly 7 past theplane" of the bar 1, and the strip .is
then pulled upwardly a sho rt distance, the hanger then being in the full-line position shownin Fig. 2, in which'position it is' ready to be'hungors'uspended'." .When it is desired to withdraw the scarf from its' suspend ed position, the reverse movement relatively ofithe hanger, is gone through, theh'anger, being-pulled downwardly until the opening 7 5 maybe free of the lower end of the bar 1,
sufliciently flexible thereat for the desired function, and yet there is a proper amount of frictional contact between the strip and the bar 1 to cause the scarf to be held in its desired supported position without accidental movement therebetween' which might'wear' the scarf unnecessarily thereat.
A tab portion 6 may be provided below-the opening 5, this portion being of suitable length so as to be easily engageable by the fingers. Any suitable means may be used for suspending the hanger strip from above, such as the hook 7 or the like, the kind and shape of suspending means 7 depending upon the particular point of support with which it will co-operate. v 7
Having thus described my invention, itis obvious that various immaterial modifications may be made in the same without departing from the spirit of my. invention; hence I do not wishto be understood as limiting myself to the exact construction, form, arrangement and combination ofparts herein shown and described, or uses mentioned, except as" limited by the claims.
.What I claim asnew and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: j 1
1. A hanger for a fur scarf provided with asnap fastener at one end, said hanger comprising a strip of material havinga pair of longitudinally spacedopenings thereon, said openings being adapted to successively 'receive the opposite ends of the snap fastener,
and means independentofgand above said openings for suspending said hanger from a support.
2. In combination with afur scarf having a clip fastener with oppositely directed ends,
7 a hanger having a pair of spaced openings each receiving one of the ends of said clip fastener to secure thelatter and hanger together, whereby said hanger may be suspended so that said scraf will depend therefrom. 3. In combination with a fur scarf having a clip fastener with oppositely directed ends, a hanger 7 comprising a perforated flexible a second opening above and contiguous to the first opening, said openings receiving opposite ends of said clasp, and the part of the strip above the second opening affording a gripping surface for the members of said clasp, and means above the second opening for suspending the strip from a support.
5. A hanger from which fur pieces pro vided with clasps are adapted to be suspended, said hanger including a strip having spaced openings in its lower portion for receiving the opposite ends of a clamping member of said clasp, and means above said openings for suspendingsaid strip from a support, the portion of'the strip between said means and the adjacent opening providing a gripping surface for the clamping members of said clasp. V V
6. A hanger for fur pieces and the like provided with clamping jaws, said hanger including a flexible strip having openings therein spaced apart a distance less than the extremities of one of said jaws to receive the opposite ends thereof and suspend said fur piece from the strip. 7 7 A hanger from which a fur piece provided with a clasp of co-operating jaws is to be suspended, saidhanger including an elongated strip having an opening adjacent its lower end and a second opening above and contiguousto the first opening, said openings receiving the opposite ends of one of said jaws and spaced apart adistancelessthan the length of said jaw, and a gripping portion on said strip above the second opening and receiving both of the co-operating jaws of said clasp on the opposite faces thereof.-
8..A hanger from which fur pieces provided with claspswith clamping members are adapted to be suspended, said hanger including an elongated strip having an opening intermediate its ends and a second open.- ing spaced thereabove, said openings together receiving the opposite ends of a clamping member of said clasp, that part of the strip above the second opening receiving said clamping members on the opposite sides thereof and gripping thereagainst, and the lower edge of the first opening engaging another portion of one of saidclamping members and forming a support for the clasp,
and means above said lower opening for suspending said strip from a support.
