.viously known, but as a rule they suffer from the disadvantage that the assembly of the case is troublesome.

My invention has for its principal object to provide for a considerable simplification and improvement in the assembly of the case by locating the side walls and the bottom of the case firmly in correct interrelation even before mounting the cover and strapping the case. In the previously known constructions special arrangements have generally to be resorted to in order, during packing and unpacking to hold the side walls in place before mounting the cover since otherwise the side walls might fall inward or outward.

Another object of the invention is to provide a dismountable case which is light of weight and does not involve the use of costly or weighty fittings.

According to the invention, for the objects stated, in a case of the kind described each of two oppositely disposed side walls is provided at two lateral edges with ribs or laths disposed perpendicularly to the bottom and arranged on the outwardly facing surface of said side walls, said ribs or laths being adapted to engage corresponding channels or grooves in edge bars at the adjacent side walls so as to locate the side walls in fixed interrelation. The first-.mentioned side walls, for instance the end walls, are provided with transverse tongues, plates, projections, shoulders or the like abutments which, in the mounted condition of the case, engage and overlap the above-mentioned channelled edge bars and, by affording support for the latter, prevent said end walls from falling inward.

Preferably the bottom rests on edge ribs attached to the lower inner edges of two opposite side walls, the two remaining opposite side walls being provided with bars or lists which project downward beyond the upper surface of the bottom and preferably terminate at the level of the under-side of the bottom in order to locate the bottom and said side walisin fixed interrelation.

Said tongues may consist of short sheet-metal plates which are secured onto said bars or lists or other elements of the said side walls by securing elements such as screws. By this means the corresponding side walls will be located 2 against both inwardly yand outwardly directed displacements.

The invention will now be described more in detail in connection with the accompanying drawing illustrating, by way of example, a preferrecl embodiment thereof, and in which:

Figure 1 is a vertical elevation in longitudinal section showing a case according to the invention in mounted condition.

Figure 2 illustrates an end elevation of the case.

Figure 3 shows a top view of the same, part of the cover being broken away.

Figure 5 illustrates, to a larger scale, a fractional perspective View of one corner of the case, some of the external parts being cut away to show the inner parts.

Figure 6 illustrates, to a larger scale, an external perspective view of the same corner.

Referring to the drawings, in the embodiment illustrated, the case consists of two longside walls l, la, two end walls 2, 2a, a bottom 3 and a cover 3a. The longside walls l, la are provided at their vertical edge portions with edge ribs or bars 4 (Figs. 3, 5 and 6) nailed, screwed or glued thereto and having each a longitudinal channel or groove 5, whereby said ribs or bars 4 obtain an L-shaped cross-section, as will be seen from Figs. 5 and 6. The ends Walls 2, 2a are provided at their vertical edges with laths E which engage said channels 5, as will be apparent from Fig. 6, so that the end walls 2, 2a interconnect the two opposite longside walls I and la, respectively, and are at the same time preventing themselves from falling outward.

In order to prevent the end walls from falling inward they are provided with transverse tongues 1 of, for instance, flat iron barpieces attached by screws or otherwise to vertical bars 8 which may serve simultaneously for interconnecting the boards of the end walls 2, 2a. The said tongues 1 slightly overlap the outer surface of the edge bars 4 so as to locate the ends walls 2, 2a so that they are prevented from falling inward. The bars 8 preferably extend downward as far as to the underside of the bottom 3, whereby they prevent the bottom from longitudinal displacement. The bottom 3 is supported on edge bars 9 which are disposed on the lower edge portions of the side walls I la, whereby the bottom is prevented from being dropped. The boards of the bottom are interconnected by means of longitudinal bars Il parallel to bars 9.

Similarly, the bars 8 may be extended as far as the level of the upper surface of the cover 3a in order to secure the cover against longitudinal movement. The cover is laterally located by the side walls l, la.

In mountingthe case the walls l, la are rst placed in vertical position spaced apart at a distance corresponding to the width of the bottom 3 and with their bars 9 facing each other at the and then the case may be strapped in `any suitable well-known manner. Ribs lil may be attached to the cover 3a, the walls l, la and the bottom in ,order to stabilize the strapping (which Vmay be eiected by means of iron straps).

It will be understood that the invention may be modiiied irl-various ways `without departing from its scope. Thus, for instance, the tongues 'i could 'be replaced by wooden projections which might be integral with the ribs 'or bars if desired,

What I claim is: i il. A dismountable case comprising, in cornbination, a removable cover and bottom and four individually removable side walls which are vertical when the case rests on its bottom, and which are arranged in pairs Voppositely and in parallel relationship to each other, vertical edge bars mounted at the adjacent edges of one of the pairs of opposite walls, means connecting said vertical redge bars to said other of the pair of side walls for preventing said one pair of side walls from falling outwardly, and abutment means mounted on the outer 'surfaces of the other of the pairs of opposite sidewalls and having portions located adjacent to said .outer surfaces so as to provide a space between said portions and outer surfaces, said vertical edge bars mounted on said one pair oi opposite side walls being located in said space, whereby the engagement of said vertical edge bars with said outer surfaces of said other pair of side walls prevents outward vfalling of said ctherpair of side walls and whereby engagement of said portions of said abutment means with said vertical-edge vbars prevents inward falling of said other pair of side walls.
