3 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in heaters; and particularly water heaters with or without accessories and means for operating them.
An important object of my invention is to provide a heating system that is efficient and economical; that can be relied upon at all times to produce a large supply of hot water, and is adapted to be worked either with fuel and the products of combustion, or with any other convenient medium furnishing the necessary amountJ of heat.
The nature of the invention is made clear in the following description and the novel features are pointed out in the appended claims. But the disclosure is illustrative only and changes infletails of structure can be made without deviation from the general principle underlying the invention.
On the drawings:
Figure 1 is a sectional view showing a heater for water with an additional heating surface on top of this construction.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of a burner and the manner of mounting same in a heater for the water used in Figure 1.
Figures l and 2 show a combined water heater and grill, comprising a water reservoir i, the bottom of which is connected by a pipe 8d to horizontal drums 42 by meansof branches 43. The drums 42 are mounted in a casing 39 having a top plate 40. The drums 42 are in the form of cylindrical drums in the casing 39 and at the top of these drums 42 are gas burner tubes 4i extending along the length of the drums. At one end of each gas burner tube 4l is an air inlet 9a to which gas is supplied by a valved pipe 35. The gas iiows into the burner tubes 4l and out through burner openings llc. Each drum 42 has an elongated opening at the top which exposes the part of the burner. tubes 4| having the burner openings, and the burner tubes are spanned by outside pipes 41 connected to the inside of the drums 42 and extending across the openings l lc. When the gas at the openings llc is lighted the flame heats the top 40 so that it can be used for cooking, and likewise heats the water and the pipes 41. The water thus circulates in the drums 42 and flows back into the top of the boiler through a pipe having a valve 44. At the top of the boiler is a delivery pipe 3. AInside the casing 39 is a gas supply pipe 48 which is branched at the upper end to direct a pilot name at the gas openings l Ic and is controlled by a valve 50.
Having described my invention, what I believe to be new is:
1. A combined gas burner and water heater, comprising a gas burner tube having a gas supply inlet provided with an air mixer and a gas discharging burner outlet spaced from said inlet, a water circulating conduit partly enclosing the gas burner tube and extending partly over said tube close to said gas outlet, a water heating tube of inverted U-shaped construction having ends communicating with the water circulating conduit and its main body portion positioned adjacent to but above the gas burner outlet to receive water from said water circulating conduit and return it to said water circulating conduit, a water tank, a feed pipe communicating with the bottom portion of the tank and with the bottom portion of the water circulating conduit, and a return pipe communicating with the upper part of the water circulating conduit and with the upper portion of the tank, whereby a thermocirculation of the water through the tank, through the water circulating conduit and through the inverted U-shaped tube is maintained when gas discharged from said outlet is ignited.
2. A water heating system, comprising a water tank, a gas burnertube having burner outlets on its upper side, a water circulating conduit partly enclosing the gas burner tube and leaving saidburner outlets exposed and providing upwardly reduced water heating spaces along the sides of the gas burner tube, an inverted water heating tube having supporting ends connected with the reduced water heating spaces of the Water circulating conduit and having its main body portion positioned above said burner outlets to be directly exposed to heat generated by the combustion of gas discharged through said burner outlets, a Water feed pipe communicating with the lower part of the tank and having communication with the lower part of the water circulating conduit, and a water return pipe communicating with the upper part of the water circulating conduit and with the upper part of the tank, whereby a thermo-circulation of water is maintained from the water' conduits and the tank when gas discharged from the burner outlets is ignited.
3. A heater having a water circulating drum, a fuel header running through the latter and being exposed through one side, and pipes spanning the exposed part of the header and being connected to the water circulating drum.
