The general objects of this invention areto.` of heat generated byv promote the efficiency a usual gas burner, and increase the utilization of the said heat. And to these ends the invention consists of a star-shaped burner provided with a water-back, whereby heat escaping at the sides of the burner will radiate around the said water-back and so heat- .the water contained therein.
Other objects will appear and be better understood from that embodiment of my-invention of .which the following is a specification, reference being had to. the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of the device. Fig. 2 is a horizontal cross section taken on the line 2-2 in Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross section taken on the line 3-3' in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a vertical cross sectional view taken at right angles to Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a fragmentary top plan view of a modification of the face of the device.

Centrally located inthe device e is a webburner 5 having on its upper surface the usual perforations 6 for the ignition ofthe gas. rihis burner is fed by a supply pipe 7, which is provided with the mixing chamber 8 for introducing the necessary air for pressure on the flame. The usual air pocket 9 is provided at the center of the burner; the plate 5 (see Fig. 4) may be detachable if desired for the purpose of cleaning the device when necessary.
In concentric spaced relation with the periphery of the burner 5, is the wall 10, which cooperates with the wall 11 of the burner in forming the water-chamber 12. This wall 10 is provided at the inner side with inwardly-directed radial arms 13, which are directed between the branches :1 4 of the burner 5; the reason of these an d,
being so positioned will be hereinafter fully explained. l
'At a suitable location .on the wall .10, shown inthe drawings at the rear, is an extended portion 15 for connection with the water-pipes 16 and 17, and separating the pipes in the interior of the water-chamber is a wall'18. The pipe 17 is the inlet or cold water supply pipe and being located adjacent Ato the iioor 19, directs the water along the bottom of the lchamber 12. As the water becomes heated adjacent to the top of the chamber it passes 'out through the outlet or hot water pipe 16; this-pipe is located adjacent to thetop portion 20 of the heater, and connects the water chamber with the storage tank (not shown).
As shown in Fig. 1 the upper face 2O of the chamber 12 is provided with concentric corrugations 21 and 22, which coperate with a vessel placed on the burner to pocket the heated air and increase the efficiency of the llame. It will be noted that a kettle or a like vessel would rest upon the usual grating (not shown) located abovethe burner,I thus permitting a space to remain between the. bottom ofthe kettle and the crest of the cor rugations; and the heat arising from the -llame in the burner 5, will radiate along the bottom of the kettle and passing over the corrugations. will be pocketed therebetween.
Lugs 22 are provided at the bottom of the device and function as legs for the same.
As shown in Figs. 2 and 4, the lower portions of the chamber at either side, are concaved as at 23. These concave portions run vparallel with the longitudinal axis of the device and are substantially straight in ,direction These concave portions are pro- `pipes may be accommodated v vided so that at the sides of the device and fit; inugly against the same. A modification of the top surface 2O is shown in Fig. 5. In this case the corrugations are radially' disposed and allow the heated air to pass over the corrugations and so heat the water in the chamber.

A. combined gos burner and Water heater, comprising :in oifter casing adapted for connection to an inlet pipe and an outlet pipe and forming the outer wall ot a water chamber, a burner proper disposed centrally of the casing and provided with radial arms forming the inner wall of the water cham ber, said Water chamber being interiorly divided into communicating compartments,
