1 Claim.
Our invention relates to improvements in shopping bags.-
An important object of our invention is to provide a shopping bag which is provided with a water-proof liner or sack which may be inverted for cleaning purposes.
Another object of our invention is to provide a shopping bag which is equipped with suitable carrying handles.
A still further object of our invention is to provide a shopping bag of the aforementioned character which is provided with drawstring means to permit the closure of the mouth of the shopping bag, and thus conceal the contents therein.
A still further object of our invention is to provide a shopping bag of the aforementioned character, which is durable in construction, practical for the use for which it is purported to be used, and a shopping bag of such simple elemental construction as to warrant economical manufacture thereof in quantity production.
Other objects and features resident in our invention will become apparent from an examination of the accompanying drawings, taken in connection with the ensuing description, wherein the objects to be attained by our invention are so clearly elucidated as to enable those familiar with the art to grasp the advantages and features thereof.
In the various views, like symbols are utilized to designate like parts, in which:
Fig. 1 represents a perspective view of our shopping bag with a liner thereof brought out. or inverted, for cleaning purposes.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a shopping bag in closed form so as to conceal the contents carried therein.
Referring to the views heretofore mentioned, our invention is generally designated 3, and consists of a bag proper, made of leather, plastic, or
, other suitable material, consisting of an upper panel 4, a lower panel 5, and a side perimetral panel 6; the said three sections, or panels, are secured together by a tape-like formation 9 which forms rounded edges and presents a finished appearance. The liner I is made to fit within the bag 3, and is preferably made of water-proofed material, so that the same may be inverted as shown in Fig. 1 and cleaned in the event certain articles purchased such as eggs, which may accidentally break, or fruit or vegetables will thus prevent the liner from becoming contaminated, freeing it of foul odors resulting therefrom thus permitting the washing 2 or laundering of the same without immersion of the entire bag proper in water, or washing solution. The liner I0 is stitched at 8 to the mouth [5 of the bag.
The shopping bag comprising our invention is provided with handles II which are sewed in place at 1 and afiord convenient carrying facilities for the bag. The bag is further provided with an important and distinct feature, namely, with a series of grommetted openings or holes I 2 through which are reeved the pull cords I3 connected at their termini to the pull knobs l4 so that the bag 3 may be closed as indicated in Fig. 2. By pulling the knobs l4 or handles II and tying them together aifects a closure of the top opening of the bag forming the mouth I5 of the bag into a series of plaited portions l6.
Thus it can be seen that we have provided a durable shopping bag structure which can be used for the purposes of carrying material purchased on shopping tours; the liner may be maintained in a sanitary condition at all times in view of the fact that it may be inverted and washed and then replaced to fit the bag proper. The contents of purchases may also be concealed from the view of others by utilizing the pull cord i3 and the pull knobs l4, and tying them into a knot or bow as indicated at I! in Fig. 2; thus the shopping bag not only aifords a convenient means of carrying products bought during the shopping tour, but also prevents the said prod ucts from being open to view to others.
Although we have herein described rather succinctly the nature and use of our invention so that persons skilled in the art will have no difliculty apprising themselves of the teachings thereof and, inasmuch as the disclosure is susceptible of various alterations, modifications, and improvements, we hereby reserve the right to all modifications, alterations, and improvements falling within the scope and spirit of our invention, as well as any modifications that are embraced suggestively in the accompanying drawings, and any that may come within the purview of the foregoing description; our invention to be limited only by the appended claim.
Having thus disclosed and revealed our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A shopping bag, comprising a bag having a mouth portion, a Waterproof flexible liner secured interiorly of said bag at the mouth thereof to permit inverting the said liner outside the confines of the said bag, a pair of handle elements secured to opposite outer sides of the said bag, and drawstring means secured to the said outer bag adjacent the said mouth portion and intermediate the point the said liner is secured to the said bag and the point at which the said handle elements are secured to the said bag, the said drawstring means including a series of grommeted openings perimetrally distributed about the said mouth, a pair of pull cords reeved through the said openings, and pull knob means securing each pair of termini of the said, pull cords, the said bag and the said liner being made of different materials.
