This invention relates to novel and useful improvements in fishing gear and apparatus.
An object of this invention is to lretain a holder in a convenient location, said holder being supplied with pivotally adjustable means for retaining a fishing-rod.
Another purpose of this invention is to provide means for carrying out the above mentioned function.
Another purpose of this invention is to provide improved rod holding means which is pivotally adjustable through an arc of substantially ninety degrees.
Another purpose of this invention is to provide means for supporting the rod holding means on either a conventional belt or a suitable anchor such as a peg or post.
Another purpose of this invention is to provide an extremely inexpensive article of manufacture which lends itself well to commercial manufacture.
Ancillary objects and features of novelty will become apparent in following the description of the preferred embodiment of the present invention, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the preferred form of the present invention, showing the same utilized in conjunction with a belt of an individual;
Figure 2 is an elevational side view of the invention shown in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the invention shown in Figure 1, showing a second use of the same;
Figure 4 is a sectional view of the invention; and,
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the sleeve utilized in conjunction with and forming part of the present invention.
Referring now in detail to the illustrated preferred embodiment of the present invention, like reference characters are used throughout to indicate similar elements.
This invention has been conceived and developed to provide a device for retaining fishing rods in a convenient (to the fisherman) location. It is often desirable to have full use of both hands of a fisherman momentarily. By utility of the present invention, the fish rod may be retained in a selected position thereby permitting free access of both hands.
Means for supporting the rod holding mechanism is supplied. By utility of this means the rod holding portion of the invention may be se- 1 Claim. (Cl. 248-42) lectivelysecured to the belt of an individual or if desired, maybe suitably anchored to a peg driven in the ground or other suitable post which might be supplied on a boat or the like. 1
A base plate I0 is provided of any suitable material, preferably metallic, and has a rolled bottom edge l2. The upper portion of the base plate I0 is provided with recesses l4 and I6 respectively wherein slots l8 and 20 are supplied. As is seen in Figure 1, a conventional belt 22 is adapted to extend through these slots for retaining the base plate in close proximity to a persons body. It will be noted that the rolled edge It will engage a portion of the anatomy below the belt of the individual.
Referring to Figure 3, it will be noted that a hinge member 24 is formed on the plate W for the purpose of pivotally supporting a keeper 26. This keeper 26 may be utilized for the purpose of receiving a suitable anchor post 28 therein. It is also noted that the rolled bottom portion I! will also engage the suitable anchor 28 in this supporting means.
A rod handle engaging and retaining member is utilized in association with the base plate I ll.
, This member may be noted in Figure 5 as the sleeve 30 having a slot 32 extending parallel to the longitudinal axis thereof. A bracket 34 is formed integral with the said sleeve 30 and has substantially right angular extensions 36 and 38 provided thereon. These extensions have aligned apertures 40 therein for a purpose to be described herein.
Positioned at the opposite end of the said sleeve 30 is a. bearin formed by rolling a protruding edge of the said sleeve. This bearing 42 is adapted to receive a pin 44 therethrough. Said pin 44 also extends through a pair of bearing members 48 and 48 respectively which are stamped integrally in the base plate Hi. It is quite apparent that by this expedient, the said sleeve 30 is pivotly associated with the plate Ill.
A pair of perches 50 are stamped in the said plate I 0 and a pair of links 52 are pivoted thereto by utility of a suitable pivot means such as a bolt 54, rivet or the like. A second pair of links 56 are pivoted to the said pair of links 52 by means of a set screw friction construction, generally indicated at 58. It will be noted that the last mentioned links 56 are pitman rods which are pivoted to the extensions 36 and 38 by means of a suitable shaft orif desired, a pair of rivets 60.
From the foregoing, it is quite obvious that the sleeve may be pivoted about. the shaft 44 through an arc of substantially ninety degrees 3 and retained in position by means of the thumbscrew construction 58. At one limit of the travel of the sleeve 30, the base portion thereof will engage the base plate l0.
While there has been illustrated and described but a preferred embodiment of the present invention it is apparent that various departures may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention. Accordingly, lin'litationv is sought only in accordance with the scope of the following claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed as new is:
