(01. 128-157) My invention relates to improvements in appliances to be worn by men, and more particularly to devices to be worn on the scrotum and has among its general objects the production of such a device that will help and build up the physical condition of the scrotum and related parts.

One of the important objects of the invention is to provide a sleeve to be worn on the scrotum to hold the testicles downwardly in their natural position to thereby improve their functioning.

Another object of the invention is to so construct a sleeve of the kind described, that the same will have a rejuvenating effect on theparts to which it is applied, and compensate in part for any deterioration arising through advanced age of the wearer, and which will flex the tissues adjacent the areas to which the same is applied and thereby stimulate the circulation of blood in those portions and improve the physical condition of the latter.

A further object of the invention is to so construct a sleeve of the 'kind described, that will be of sufficient weight to hold the parts in the desired position, and of such rigidity as to prevent squeezing of the same When the wearer sits or crosses his legs, one on the other.

An added object of my invention is to so construct a sleeve of the kind set forth, so that its inner bore will be of suflicient size to permit entry of the neck of the scrotum thereinto, and whose external periphery is of such size asto be approximately equal to that of the scrotum at its largest diameter, so that the up and down movement of the wearer in walking will flex the muscles and tissues thereat, and so that the external periphery of the sleeve takes up the press incident to crossing the legs one over the or in sitting.

A still furth r object of my invention consists in the construction of a scrotum sleeve that is provided with means to permit entry of the neck of scrctum thereinto, so that the sleeve will rest on and be supported on the enlarged portion of scrotum therebelow, said means being arranged. to close the sleeve after such entry of the scrotum and to form a flush and continuous peripheral surface with the neck-engaging area of the sleeve while in closure position.

Yet another object of the invention is to coma sleeve of the kind described with a soft and pliant liner to beinterposed between the sleeve and the scrotum to add comfort during the wearing of the sleeve, and to prevent shock ch il when applying the sleeve in cold Weather.

To this end, my invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination -of parts herein shown and described, and as will be more clearly pointed out in the claims hereunto appended,

Referringmore particularly to the drawings, wherein I'have illustrated a preferred embodiment of' my invention, there is shown in Fig. 1 the scrotum or scrotum sack of an adult male, the upper or reduced portion or neck of the scrotum being indicated at I, and the enlarged or depending portion, in which the testicles are contained, is indicated at 2. 7

It is a well-known fact that as the prime physical condition passes, there is a resultant deterioration in the physical well-being and func tioning of the testicles and adjacent body parts, and even without reference to age, there is quite often a physical discomfort occasioned through accidental squeezing of the parts .at sitting or crossing the legs, one on the other.

To prevent such discomfort, and at the same time to improvethe physical condition of the tissues and muscles adjacent to and in the area of the scrotum of the male body, I have provided an appliance that is simple in appearance and making, easy to put in place and remove, and which will be wearable with comfort and ad-' vantage.

To this end, I have provided a tubular element, annulus or sleeve 3, having a central opening or bore 4 therethrough, preferably of such size as toreceive and comfortably enclose the neck of the scrotum thereinto, said sleeve preferably being relatively thick (in a radial direction) so that the exterior periphery of the sleeve, at 5, is approximately equal to that of the scrotum at the largest diameter of the latter, somewhat as indicated in the drawing.

This sleeve is relatively heavy, and I have found that an approximate weight of around one pound is suitable for the purpose; hence it is preferable that the same be made of a heavy material such as metal or the like. Also, to prevent any discloroation or staining of the sleeve, it may be made of a material that has a natural or applied surface to be stain-proof, without tarnishing or corroding. A base metal such as steel, having a plating of chrome, for instance, has been found quite desirable for the purpose.

In order to give some idea as to suitable size and proportion of the sleeve, and not for the purpose of restriction or limitation, an annulus of about 1 /2" bore and 2 A outside diameter,

about 1 in length or height, and of about one pound in weight has been successfully used and comfortably worn.

In the preferred form, this sleeve is made of a single piece of metal, and is provided with means for passage of the neck of the scrotiun from without, into the bore of the sleeve, said means in this instance being in'the nature of a slit, slot or opening extending transversely or laterally t from the bore to the external periphery or circumference of the sleeve, the opposed faces of said slot being preferably parallel and radially.

The top and bottom ends of the sleeve are preferably rounded, especially at the inner edges where the bore forms corners with the top and bottom sides or ends of the sleeve, as at i and 3 respectively, so as to provide rounded rather than uncomfortable sharp corners thereat.

A plug 9 is formed as a removable closure for the passage slot 5,- this plug being of rubber or some other material that is yieldably compressible and is of such size and shape as to snugly and frictionally fit within the said slot E to removably close the latter, the sides of said plug being com-- plemental to those of the adjacent surfaces of the sleeve, so that when the plug is inserted into position as indicated in Fig. 1, it will come flush with the bore of the sleeve and with the rounded corners at the ends of the same. Thus, there will be a smooth and uninterrupted interior surface of the closed sleeve, when mounted in position with the plug locking the same.

the slight relative movement between the latter and the sleeve will flex and stimulate the parts thereat and improve the blood circulation of the same. Also, as hereinbefore mentioned, crushing of the parts or squeezing of the same, especially at sitting or when crossing the legs, is minimized, the weight being taken up by the sleeve itself.

Having thus described my invention, it is obvious that various immaterial modifications may be made in the same without departing from the spirit of my invention; hence I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the exact form, arrangement, combination and construction, except as limited by the state of the art to which this invention appertains, and by the claims hereunto appended.

In order to prevent shock to the parts, especially in cold weather, and to improve the comfort in wearing the sleeve, I have interposed a soft, pliable and flexible liner it between the scrotum and the sleeve, and in order that this liner may be laundered easily, be purchased cheaply, and be readily available, I have found that a cotton sock may be used for the purpose.

In mounting the sleeve in place on the parts, the scrotum is lowered into this sock or other liner, and then the neck of the scrotum, thus covered, is passed laterally through the sleeve slot into the bore of the sleeve, whereupon the plug is pressed in looking or closure position until its under portion is flush with the adjacent portions of the sleeve. liner or sock is draped to fall over the exterior of the sleeve.

Obviously, care should be taken to avoid any wrinkling of the liner where it is interposed between the sleeve and scrotum, as this would cause discomfort, but if for any reason thereis any discomfort due to such wrinkle, the sock may be smoothed again, after temporarily lifting the sleeve, and thereafter the latter may be permitted to drop into its new position.

A weighted annulus of predetermined thickness to be worn on a scrotum and provided with a transverse opening through the annulus to forma C-shaped member to receive the scrotum within the annulus, and a plug removably frictionallyclosing said transverse opening to retain the scrotum within the annulus.

A surgical appliance of the kind described to be worn on a scrotum and comprising a relatively inexpansible annulus having a permanently-sized bore therethrough so that the annulus may be supported on said scrotum above the tes-. ticles and provided with a transverse slot of a' width to receive the neck of the scrotum there-. through, without expanding said annulus, andmeans removably positioned in said slot for substantially fully closing passage therethrough and. being substantially flush with the bounding sur faces of said annulus at said slot.
