claims. (cl. izo-*110) This invention relates to improvements in heating apparatus.
The principal object ofthe invention is the provision of heating apparatus which is not only adapted for installation in various positions but which is simple in form and compact as well as economical in operation.
According to certain novel features of the invention, the heating apparatus may be suspended v from the ceilingor the like or set on its end or sidethereby adapted for installation in various ways and in numerous locations.
According to other novel features of the invention, the heating apparatus is arranged and constructed for ready and easy accessibility to its components.
With the foregoing and various other novel features and advantages and other objects of my invention as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more particularly pointed out in the claims yhereunto annexed and more fully described and referred to in connection with the -i Fig. 4 is a partial sectional view through cover vplate 22.
Referring now to the drawings more in detail, the invention will be fully described.
A casing is provided which has front and rear walls 2 and 4, end Walls 6 and 8 and upper and lower walls I0 and I2.
Any or all of the walls -may be formed with depressions I4 and openings I6 with cover members I8 thereover as shown in Fig. 3. In Fig. 1 the rear and forward walls have covers and the end walls 6 and 8 have covers or cover plates 22 and 24. It will be understood that the cover plates may be secured to the casing in any well known manner and may be of any desired form.
A combustion chamber is provided adjacent the end wall 8 or the outlet end of the casing. Said chamber has yopposite Walls 32 and 34 which as in Fig. 1 converge to parallel walls 36. A rear wall 38 closes the rear side of the combustion `chamber 30 and the end is `extends outwardly of the' casing A plate 42` is removably secured to the side of the combustion chamberl 30 and a forward wallv 44 inclines away therefromL and connects with rear wall40,seeFig.v 2. Y .A i
It will be noted that the combustion chamber tapers rearwardly from the rforward or outletend of the casing so as to provide a narrowingl passageway forlthe products of combustion. t
`, The plate 4211s provided with an opening for an oil burner which is shown diagrammatic'ally vat'I Vin Fig. 2. This oillburner is associated withwall 4 and said plate liiand may be sinriilar to that shown in application Serial Number 76,066 of February l2, 1949 which has'been' issued as Patent No. 2,527,503, dated October 24, 195,0.
' Air for combustion enters through inlets 50, in the outer end of the oil burner and is drawn therethrough and discharged together 4withruel at the inner Aend within the combustion chamber, as will later appear. The combustion chamber mayv be provided with refractory 3i as is common practice and the burner may take various forms as may be desired.
Upper and lower hollow compartments. 5.0/ and 52 are provided at opposite sides of the combustion chamber .and have inner wallsr Il and 52 which are spaced from and follow the adjacent walls 360i said combustion chamber. L. .1
v Hollow connections BI) extend betweenadjacent walls 5D and 52 of the compartments and of the combustion chamber. A hollow connection --extends between the walls Sil and 52--'f-the compartments 50 and 52 which is disposedadjacent wall 44- of' the combustion chamber,v"see Fig. 2. Y
Bailles such as' 64 extend between upper and lower walls of compartments 50 and 52 and Afrom rear walls 66 thereofforwardly to a'point spaced from the forward ends of said compartments forming transverse passageways such as '68, see
A hollow fan housing "I0 is securedA to thecmpartments and is preferably in the form'slown in Fig'. 1. 1 A connection'l extends fromconnection 62 to the housing l0, as shown in Fig. 2". An air propeller'l4within the housing` is'c lr ried by a shaft of a motor 'I6 which isdisposed outside the casing' and is supported by (a platform An 'outlet connection 80 from the "In and has 11118 V82 connected thereto.
v In @eration air. isdrawn inwardly `thintrigh.tlile urnerfsfgr wmbusiiqa The productsof comucts of combustion and 'gasesptraverse a cir-`r cuitous route past numerous separate walls which are heated thereby so` that air'whi'ch is-` caused to flow relative to and Wipe said waifs 'is heated, as will appear.
A housing 90 is provided which hasV laninlet;v
92 and an outlet 94. This housing is mounted 1r 'air AprpellerL llt-within the housing- 9U is Said shaft 98 has a pulley y [0D fixed thereto which'is connected byanendi'gsstdifiver m2' toapuuey-loi-md en shaft,- los 'of'i'a'motorw lrwhich'isssupported onplatform 4 Y bustion chamber and compartments are wiped by the air for the efficient transfer of heat.
A minor portion of the air flows around outside th'e member I i8 and outwardly between members H4 and |22 and is effective for cooling the end portion of the casing and carrying heat from the member I I8 outwardly.
It will be noted that the"cmbustiongehamber and compartments are" spaced from the casing walls in Fig. 2, but in some cases it may be desirable to eliminate said space.
'Ijhe housing or scroll 'l0 is welded to the heat exchanger to provide a gas tight connection and i-rsuch away as` to seal the combustion gas cir- Hcuits"aridiiow'ofair.. The said scroll is in the I'path 'of air'dis'charge from the blower whereby madfremj pliable materiali'such as-canvas or thetlike; has 'one end` connected to the discharge "end-54 of -the-housing Si): Its `other 'endis `supported by `a Ymemberorv members H2 -xed to the J'ca'singpj y' Thercove'r'meinber Moat-the outlet Y'en-d ofthe casing is-'p'r'ovided with an-'outlet -l Mfwhich may `becor'mectecltoi an air distributing system of-any -desiretJt-aype.VV W f Y A Lba-ilie -HB at lthe outlet end ofthe housing vhas "an-intermediate 'portion ---I -20 extending around "azrdlspaced from the combustion chamber-and side parts v-sp'aced therefrom.- Anoutlet |-22V of ithebaiile extends -into the Youtlet H4,as shown.
