To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN B. ORooKER, a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Hot-Air and Vapor Bathing Apparatus, as set forth in the following specification.

The object of my invention is to overcome all chronic conditions, to extirpate from the system all mercurial and other poisons, to open the capillaries, carry off all impure secretions, arouse the dormant glands to healthy action, equalize the circulation, and produceand maintain harmony between all the functions and forces in the human economy.

I attain my object through the application of the thermal or positive principle, (heat,) alternated by its relative opposite, until a peri'ec't balance and harmonious blending between the positive and negative, the magnetic and electric forces, are produced, which are natures preventive, as well as cure, for all diseases, whether in acute or chronic form.

My invention consists in certain improvements, as hereinafter described andclaimed, in portable bathing apparatus.

The following is a full, clear, and exact description of my invention, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification.

Figure l is a perspective view of the apparatus, with a portion of the door removed to show its interior. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the gas-generator. Fig. 4. is a sectional View of the outer casing. Fig. 5 is a view of the movable adjustable collar. Fig.6 is an edge view, partly in section, of the movable adjustable collar.

Referring to the annexed drawings,-A A A represent the outer casing of the apparatus, which is made in two separate sections and joined together, making one piece. The two sections can be united and disunited at will. It has folding doors and a movable adjustable collar. B B represent the folding doors, by which entrance to and exit from the interior is made. To the ends of the folding doors are added and firmly secured parts of the top pieces, D D, and upper part of the lower front end pieces,OU. These parts of top and lowerfront are divided or eutin two by oblique curved lines E E, by means of which I am enabled to open andshut easily and without any interference both the doors top and lower front at one and the same time, they being united together in one piece. By this improvement I am able to dispense. with the old-style sliding or hanging top and the inconveniently high lower front; also 1 thereby economize fully ten per cent. in tliellength ot' the apparatus. Aperture's F are provided in the sides or other convenient parts of the casing A, through which the attendants hand can be introduced to regulate the flow of gas, rubbing the bather, and for other purposes. When the doors and apertures are closed and the collar adjusted the casing is almost air-tight, and serves the purpose of inclosing the person and retaining the hot air or vapor during the time occupied in taking a bath. The casing may be made. of galvanized iron, wood, or any other suitable material. The head of the person bathing always remains outside the easing of the apparatus, and by means of the movable adjustable collar perfect freedom of movement for the head and an easy sitting posture are always secured. It also insures an abundance of pure fresh air for breathing purposes without interfering with the temperature within the casing. The interior of the casing is furnished with a revolving chair, a perforated footstool, two gas-burners, and heat-radiators, which are connected to the gasgenerator by regular gas-pipes and proper stopcooks.

Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the apparatus. A A represent the two sections of the outer casing. The dotted lines 0 show the point of union where the upper and lowersections meet. V represents the movable adjustable collar; B, the doors. G represents the revolving chair, having perforated seat. Prepresents thesocket which receives the screw 0, by which the chair is raised or lowered at will to meetany height and desired position. This screw is firmly secured to the under part of the seat of the chair. The socket P is attached to the arm R, which is screwed into the coupling of the main pipe and supports the chair. Two extra iron rods,

a, as auxiliary supports, are also provided to secure the chair. I represents the perforated footstool, which swings on hinges in such a manner that it can readily be removed for i g ing B niting the gas, which is situated directly nuderneath the stool, which serves as a rest for the feet of the bather. H H represent the two burners and heat-radiators. They are made from corrugated copper plates, and at the apex of the corrugations are perforated, through which perforations the gas passes and is ignited. K K represent the pipe-connections which unite the burners with the gas-generator U T, having stop-cock S, and which is attached to the outer casin g. L represents the bottom of the bath. This floor is made so as to receive and hold all water used in washing off the person bathing, together with that used in cleansing the bath. M represents the spout and stopcock through which the water is drawn off. N is a representation of the casters, which are secured to the wooden frame and serve to roll the apparatus from one room to another and from place to place.

Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the gas-generator. A represents a glass tube which serves as an index, and alwaysgives the exact condition of the chemical, which is taken up and absorbed, through capillary attraction, by the fibrous substance 0. B B represent the air passages or channels, and as soon as the air comes in contact with the chemical it becomes charged with all the elements ofcombustion, becomes heavier than the outside atmosphere, and gravitates downward through the pipes to the corrugated burners and is ignited as readily as common coal or hydrogen gas. D represents the outer casing of the gas-generator, which is made of metal and rendered air-tight, except at the points of entrance and exit of the air and gas, where it is provided with the necessary stop-cocks, and the intensity of the heat is always under perfect control.

Fig. 4 representsthe lower section of the eas- The dotted lines A show the upper section removed. By constructing the casing in sections 1 am able to administer a partial or a full bath. Thus I meet the necessities of all those persons who suffer from heart and brain difficulties. Where a full bath would not be beneficial, a partial bath has the effect of stimulatingthe lower parts of the body,

and draws down the forces from above to the lower extremities without exciting or intensifying the-brain or heart.

Fig. 5 represents the movable adjustable collar V. It is made from two semicircular pieces of metal or other material, A B These two pieces are fastened together by the pivot G which forms an axis or center upon which they open and close together. They overlap in front, and are provided with a proper catch,

'D which easily slides into any one of the holes E holding the collar in position. The variousholes form a graduating scale, and can be adjusted to meet the required size of either small or large necks, and it gives freedom of motion to the head, is adjustable to any posture, and is easily removed to spray and wash off the'bather.

Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,

1. In a portable bathing apparatus, the easing A, formed of two separate sections, and having folding doors B B, to which are secured the lower front end pieces, 0 O, and the top pieces, D D, and apertures F F in the sides thereof, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

'2. The combination, with a portable bathing apparatus, of the adjustable collar V, consisting of two semicircular portions, A B, pivoted together at O and having catch D and perforations E substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

3. In a portable bathing apparatus, the revolving chair G, having perforated seat, central support, P Q R, and auxiliary supports a a, and the hinged and perforated footstool I, substantially as set forth.

4. In a portable bathing apparatus, the gasgenerator U T, having glass indicator-tube A and air-passages 13 13, perforated heat-radiators II, and connecting-pipe K.
