3 Claims. 1
This invention relates to a hose support and it is one object of the invention to provide a support which may be set in place upon the ground and the nozzle of a garden hose then applied to the support and held thereby in position for discharging water upon a predetermined portion of alawn.
Another object of the invention is to provide a hose support which is formed from a single blank of sheet metal and has an upwardly extending portion formed with a nozzle-receiving slot leading from its upper edge and disposed at such an angle that a hose nozzle fitted into the slot will not be liable to be shifted along and out of the slot by the force or thrust exerted by water flowing under high pressure through the nozzle.
Another object of the invention is to provide the hose holder with depending legs disposed atsuch an angle that when they rest upon the ground they will not be liable to slip during use of a hose.
Another object of the invention is to provide means by which the hose nozzle may be tilted to adjust the discharged water to sprinkle the area being watered.
Another object of the invention is to provide a hose nozzle holder which is very simple in construction, and may be manufactured at low cost.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the improved hose holder.
Fig. 2 is a view showing the hose holder in vertical section and a hose in side elevation.
This hose support is formed of sheet metal and consists of a single blank which is substantially triangular. This blank is bent along a transversely extending line to form a base portion l which extends horizontally and carries an upstanding plate or body portion 2. The body 2 is reduced in width towards its upper end and has diagonally extending side edges 3 and 4, the side edge 3 merging into an arcuate upper edge 5 extending transversely of the body. A slot 6 is formed in the body or plate 2 and extends upwardly at a curvature towards the side edge 4 of the body, the open upper end of the slot being flared and forming a mouth I having side edge portions 8 and 9 which are arcuate and merge into the edges 4 and 5 of the body. By so forming the slot the nozzle ll] of a hose ll may be easily thrust inwardly and downwardly into the slot until it reaches the bottom or inner end of the slot where it rests in the position shown in Figlire 2. The nozzle extends forwardly at an up- Ward incline so that water will be discharged upwardly and forwardly from the hose nozzle and as the force of water passing through the hose and the nozzle tends to tilt the nozzle upwardly portions [2 and i3 of the nozzle will frictionally grip the front and rear surfaces of the body 3 and resist movement of the nozzle towards the open outer end of the slot. It should also be noted that as the slot extends towards one side edge of the body instead of upwardly in a straight vertical direction at right angles to the lower edge of the body movement of the nozzle by force of water in an upward direction will be resisted. Therefore the nozzle will be firmly held in the position in which it is set when fitted into the slot. Tongues which extend from end portions of the rear edge of the base I are bent downwardly and form feet or legs l4. These feet rest upon the ground and provide a fulcrum over which the support may be tilted to adjust the discharge of the hose in a selected position between horizontal and vertical. It should be noted that the feet are quite Wide and extend downwardly at an incline towards opposite ends of the base. Therefore the feet diverge downwardly and when they are placed on the ground they cannot move easily about. The hose holder will therefore be firmly held against accidental displacement during use of the hose. When the hose is to be moved to another location or put away until again needed the hose is pulled upwardly and out of the slot 6.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
l. A hose holder comprising a blank of sheet material bent along a transversely extending line and forming a fiat base and a body projecting upwardly along the front edge of the base, said body having upwardly converging side edges and an arcuate upper edge merging into the side edges, the body being formed with a slot leading from the upper portion of one side edge and extending inwardly therefrom and curved downwardly towards its inner end, said slot having its open outer end flaring and its side edges merging into edges of the body from which the slot leads, and tongues extending from end portions of the rear edge of said base and bent downwardly and forming wide feet extending downwardly at an outward incline beyond ends of the base and serving to firmly hold the base against accidental movement.
2. A hose holder comprising a fiat base elongated transversely of the holder, a plate extending upwardly along the front edge of the base and formed with a hose-receiving slot leading from a side edge of the plate and extending inwardly at a downward curvature, and tongues extending downwardly from end portions of the rear edge of the base and disposed diagonally at an incline in which they project beyond ends of the base.
3. A hose holder comprising a base, a plate extending upwardly from said base and formed with a hose-receiving slot leading from a side edge of the plate and extending diagonally at a down- 10 ward curvature towards its inner end, and feet extending downwardly from said base at a transverse incline forming a fulcrum and adapted to be firmly anchored against accidental movement and permitting the holder to be tilted.
