SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 256,726, elated April 18, 1882.

Application led January 14, 1882.

To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, ISAAc NIouoLS, a citizen of the United States, resident at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new an d useful Improvements in CelLCases; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part ot' this specification, in which- Figure l isa perspective of my device, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view.

This invention has relation to egg-carriers; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, the letters A A designate the outer sections or frames of the case, which are usually made rectangular in form, and are provided with end walls, b, which are secured to the frames, closing them on the outside, and forming, when said frames are hinged to the intermediate frame, A, as at a, a folding box.

The intermediate frame, A-of which more than one maybe employed, ifdesired--to which the outer frames, A A, are hinged, is made without end walls, and is provided with a network, c', near each margin, said net-work corresponding in character to the net-work c of the adjacent end frames, A A. A crosshar, L, is used in the section A', and small abutting supports s are placed under the networks to prevent saggingin the middle. These are short studs abutting against each other,

placed beneath the net-work in any convenient manner to prevent sagging. Each network c is placed at a sufficient distance from the end board or wall, b, to prevent the eggs from touching said wall when heldin place between the net-works of the sections, which is accom plished by folding the sections together. The sections maybe secured in the folded position by means of a hook and staplc,f, or other ordinary fastening device, and handles It may be provided for the case, so that it may be easily carried in the hand. Sometimes the egg-supporting fabrics may consist of perforated cloths.

For shipping purposes the cases are made larger, and several intermediate frames, A', may be employed. These cases may be used for carrying and protecting fruit as well as eggs. When placed therein the articles are lightly but firmly held in position, cach heilig entirely independent of its neighbor, and held at a distance therefrom by the net-work sufficient to prevent injury occurring from the contact of one with another. rIhe cases can therefore be roughly handled without danger to the contents.

When it is desired to take out the eggs the frames are opened on their hinges, separating the net-works and leaving the eggs which were held between the same free, so that they can he at once removed.

Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-

In an eggcarrier, the combination, with the intermediate frame, A', having net-work c c d and cross-bar L, of the end frames, A A, having end walls, b b, handles h h, and net-works c d e, hinged to the frame A at a a, and provided with fastenings ff, and the short abutting supports s, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
