My invention pertains to a gun sight and more specically to a rather large, detachably mountable structure, one or more of which may thus be adjusted longitudinally on the barrel.
I have become familiar with many earlier originations, both marketed and patented. A partial record of prior published disclosures is furnished by the following list of grants: Tessey, No. 916,058 of March 23, 1909; Fessenden, No. 1,265,766 of May 14, 1918; Gregory, No. 1,350,153 of August 17, 1920; Barringer, No. 1,363,533 ci December 28, 1920; and Russell, No. 2,256,411 of September 16, 1941.
The objects of my invention are, to more quickly and effectively bring a moving or even a stationary target to properly sighted aim; to have even coarse sighting (when employing a pair of longitudinally spaced sights) achieve the desideratum of suilciently accurate aim; to provide a pair of laterally spaced spheres of vision therethrough, the latter being selectively variable either as open gaps or as windows preferably composed of any suitably transparent material, for instance, styrene or plexiglass or other synthetic plastic (windows though slightly increasing the cost being adapted to strengthen the surmounted frame); to provide such a frame, M- shaped as merely exemplify-ing, which is bisected by an upstanding prong; further to denne such a frame by the application of a coating serving to present a color contrast (red befingvthecplpr indicated by the shading in the"`drawing) and finally to provide a composite structure which is strong, durable, ornamental and sufciently economical of manufacture.
Adverting to the drawing:
Figure 1 is an end view of a gun barrel showing a gun sight embodying the features of my invention clamped thereon.
Figure 2 is a side view, showing a section of only a part of the barrel.
Figure 3 is a View corresponding to Figure 1 showing an offset mounting on a double-barreled shot gun.
Figure 4 is a view corresponding to Figure 2 showing the attachment to only one of the barrels.
It is to be understood that the scope of my invention comprehends many equivalent constructions and that the graphical showing and the specic description are merely exemplications of features of design with a utilitarian function, or of feasible mechanical embodiments and arrangements within the scope of any granted claims.
.A gun barrel l carries, at any selectable point 2 along its length or at points near its breech and muzzle if a pair, a sight structure which, as illustrated, comprises an M-shaped frame 2 of which its V-gap is bisected by a prong the extremity of which is coated to form a bead 3. The frame parts may be integral or of transparent material. Optionally, the frame is supplied with a coating 4 to provide a color contrast-red being indicated by the shade lines.
A lower portion of the frame has an arcuate under side, as shown, which adapts it for snug and firm seating upon the barrel I.
Screws 5 may be employed for securing the lower part of the vsight to any suitable form of barrel-encircling clamp which in turn comprises semi-circular bands 6 and 'l having intersecting ends, after the manner of the common type of hose-clamp together with constriction means (set-screw or cam-action lever) deemed unnecessary to illustrate in detail because common practice and because no claim is made thereto.
The screws 5 cooperate with appropriately thread holes in an upstanding flange from the barrelrestlng base 8.
Optionally, the two lateral portions of the frame may be closed by windows, 9 of any transparent material.
I claim:
l. A gun sight, comprising the combination of a composite clamp adapted to be secured to a gun and a structure having its lower part of arcuate form and carried by said clamp, said structure comprising an upstanding prong and. a pair of transparent triangular flanks deiining a V shaped gap bisected by said prong.
2. A gun sight as in claim 1, in which the anks have coated edging and in which the extremity of the prong is coated to form a bead.
