SIECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 256,530, dated AprilV 18, 1882.
Application led August 29, 1881. (No model.)
The object of my invention is to produce a more convenient and effective clamp for the use 1o of cabinet-1nakers,joiner, &e.,than those now in use; andthe invention consists in the employm'entof a spring attached to the sliding` jawin such a manner as to hold the clamp-iron up to the bar, so as to insure its engaging with x5 the notches on the barwithout the necessity of holding up the clamp-iron with the hand when the clamp is required for use.
In clamps ot this character as now made the clamp-iron, when not in use, drops down zo away from lthe bar, and when required for use it is necessary to hold the clamp-iron up tothe bar to engage it in the notches. This ineon- Yenience is obviated by lny invention.

When the article clamped is to be released and the sliding jaw drawn back itis *onlynecessary-to press the spring G down antLASv release the clam p-iron from the notches.
