Application November 20, 1945, Serial No. 629,791
1 Claim.
The invention relates to a tool, and more especially to a combination wrench and tool holder.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of an implement of this character, wherein the same can be used as a wrench proper for adjusting valves, fuel pipe line couplings or other parts of vehicular matters, or for the servicing of feeler gauges, files or other toolings, with dispatch and without the use of separate implements, thereby affording a time-saver gadget.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an implement of this character, wherein it eifects a three-way feeler gauge, and is instantly serviceable as a wrench for small work in restricted areas or places difiicult of access; the implement being novel in construction and unique in its arrangement, it being possessed of few parts and is compact.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an implement of this character which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliabl and eificient in purpose, strong, durable, readily and easily handled; it having multiple service with dispatch effective as a holder for a variety of tooling parts and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter mor fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the implement constructed in accordance with the invention, it being fitted with several or more feeler gauges.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2--2 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of a wedging block employed with the implement.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of a retaining clip for the block shown in Figur 3.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the implement constituting the present invention, comprises a handle bar Ill, which in this instance is of round rod-like formation having an external knurled surface II for a firm hand grip thereon. This bar If! at opposite end portions is formed with threaded terminals l2 with the knurled surface I I therebetween the bar being straight throughout.
To one of the terminals I2 is adjustably tapped thereon a coupling socketed extension l3 of a wrench head Id of the end type, yet it may be otherwise constructed, for use as a handled wrench for any purpose especially for adjusting valves of vehicular motors or engine.
The other end terminal l2 has adjustably tapped thereon a coupling socketed extension I5 of a double jawed clamping head l6, the jaws thereof being separated by a wedge shaped gap l8 therebetween for accommodating a removable wedge shaped filler block l9 interfitting the same.
The block I!) is held in true registering position within the recess l8 by a retaining clip or saddling bail 20, the bail 2 ll saddling the head IS. A screw 2| extends through an opening 25 in the clip 20. The screw 2| also extends through a slot 26 in the jaw l1 and into a threaded opening 21 in the wedge-shaped block l9. Initially, the feeler gauge is interposed between one of the jaws l1 and the fiat surface of the block IS. The screw 2| is then projected through the opening 25 in,
the bail 20, then through the slot 26, and into threaded engagement with the opening 21. Next, the block I9 is slid forwardly so that the block l9 firmly wedges or secures the gauge 22 in place. Finally, the screw 2| is tightened so that accidental movement of these parts will be prevented. The gauge 22 is adapted to be used in servicing or adjusting valves in a motor or engine (not shown).
Each head l4 and I6 at the extension thereof is formed with a transversely disposed kerf or slot 23 which intersects the socketed area of such extension at the flooring of its socket and such kerf accommodates another feeler gauge 24 which can be firmly held securely clamped by the end terminal l2 next thereto under adjustment of the head to have service from such feeler gauge 24. In lieu of the feeler gauges 22 or 24 a file not shown can be substituted therefor for service, or in fact any other tooling gadget appropriately fitting either head can be substituted; the file being generally used for dressin points on distributors and magnets on all motors or engines. This implement is for universal service as should be apparent, it being a holder in principle.
The wrench can be used in any place that the feeler gauges are used whereby much time will be saved.
What is claimed is:
In a tool, a cylindrical rod, the end of said rod being threaded exteriorly for a portion of its length, a head arranged in threaded engagement with the threaded end of said rod, said head being 3 provided with a wedge-shaped recess defining 8.
