My invention relates to means for hOldillg the points of soft collars in proper position for wear and to prevent wrinkling or undesirable flexing of the points.

Such devices are conventionally formed from a length of resilient wire bent to substantially inverted U-shape to produce a cross bar and a pair of depending arms. The arm are sharpened at their free ends to provide prongs and are provided adjacent the prongs with transverse means limiting penetration of said prongs into the fabric of the collar points, in order to place the clip under tension. I have observed that these transverse penetration limiting members frictionally engage and scratch the portion of the shirt immediately underlying the collar points. This frictional engagement causes excessive wear of this portion of the shirt, thereby shortening the normal life of the shirt.

The primary object of my invention is the pro- Vision of a collar clip which is inexpensive to produce and which totally eliminates any undesirable wear upon the shirt.

Generally stated, my invention consists in the novel devices, combination of devices and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and dc.- fined in the claims.

Referring to the drawings wherein like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views:

Fig. 1 is a view in perspective of my novel collar clip attached to the collar of a shirt, the shirt being shown by dotted lines;

Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary section taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a view in perspective of a sliding head of my device;

Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view in front elevation showing a modified form of the sliding head of my device; and

Fig. 5 is a view in front elevation ofthe slidin head of Fig. 4.

Referring with greater particularity to the drawings, the numeral 9 indicates in its entirety an inverted U-shape clip, preferably formed of a length of resilient wire bent to substantially inverted U-shape to produce a cross bar 2 and dependin arm 3. As shown their intermediate portion, the arms 3 are bent to form laterally directed bends or loops l, but may be if desired, made longitudinally adjustable by any suitable means. At its central portion the cross bar 2 is bent to form an upwardly opening seat 5 which is adapted to engage a securing means in the nature of a collar button 6, shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1. At their lower free ends the arms 3 are formed with downwardly and forwardly inclined sharpened prongs l which are adapted to be inserted into the fabric of a collar 8 adjacent 5 the laterally spaced points 9 thereof.

In the structures of l' to 3 inclusive, the heads H are shown as being provided with integrally formed tongues l2 that are bent to receive therebetween and the head, the offset portion [0 of the arms 3. The head ll perform a two-fold function, to wit: limiting the penetration of the prongs 1 into the fabric of the collar points 9 and providing anti-friction skid surfaces adapted to slidably engage the fabric of the shirt underlying and adjacent the collar points 9. In Order to prevent rotary or sliding movements of the head H with respect to the offset portion Ill of the arms 3, I preferably solder or otherwise suitably secure the offset portion 10 between the head II and the tongue l2 thereof, a indicated at 13.

In the modified form of Figs. 4 and 5, one arm of a collar may be as indicated by the numeral 3' and as attached adjacent to but upwardly spaced from the prong 1' thereof, a dished head [4 having diametrically opposed notches l in the marginal edge thereof for the reception of arm 3' therein. The arm 3 may be clinched, soldered, or otherwise secured in the notches I 5.

While I have described and illustrated a preferred embodiment and one modification of my invention, I do not wish to be bound by the details of construction as illustrated, except as defined by the appended claims.

What I claim is:

1. In a device of the class described, a collar clip adapted for use with a folded collar having spaced points, comprising a length of resilient wire bent to substantially inverted U-shape to produce a cross bar and pair of spaced depending arms, each arm being sharpened at its free end to form a prong, each prong being adapted to penetrate the fabric at the rear side of one of the collar points when the cross bar is arranged transversely between the folds at the front of the collar for holding said points in place, a rearwardly offset portion in each of said legs adjacent to but removed from said prongs, a pair of en- 55 larged rearwardly-dished heads one each nestingly receiving one of said oflset portione, and REFERENCES CITED gz f gggg securing said heads to Sam The following references are of record in the fi 2.
