As indicated, one of the objects of the invention is simplicity and cheapness, as well as rigidity. With this object in view, the major parts of the device consist of fiat stock stamped into proper shape.

Another object of the invention is to utilize one of the usual cross members of the spring as a part of the bracing structure for the leg. In the accomplishment of these several objects, the leg is comprised of a length of angle stock which is substantially flattened at one end for attachment to the frame of the bed spring. The attachment is made, however, through the medium of a U-shaped clip which is first fastened to the flattened end of the leg member and then fastened to the inner surface of the bed sprin frame. This form of mounting permits the leg to be fastened at an end of the aforementioned cross member which becomes a part of the bracing structure. A brace, also of flattened stock, has its ends secured respectively to the leg member and to a suitable point on the cross member.

The remaining or lower end of the leg member is preferably fitted with a cap formed with an outward and rounded dent in order not to damage the floor or floor covering.

surfaceofthe framemember l f j N This conventionalbed spring is converted to a bed by the attachment of four legs constituting the subject matter of this invention. Inasmuch as all the legs are alike, only one of them. will be described in detail. Each leg includes a length of angle iron 1 which is substantially flattened at it upper end at 8 for a purpose that will presently be described. This end is secured to the back of a U-shaped clip 9 by rivets M. The sides of the clip are formed with outwardly extending ears I l fastened to the inner surface of the frame I by suitable means such as bolts or rivets l 2. The clip 9 is mounted over the anchored end of one of the cross members 2, adjacent to the bend 6 thereof. The clip 9 is of sufiicient depth, when mounted, to receive the end of the cross member 2 as well as the upper end of the leg I.

On the lower end of the leg I is mounted a cap l3 having a pair of ears l4 fastened to the outer surfaces of the angle iron by rivets l5. The base of the cap is stamped out in the form of a button l6 which is rounded for proper engagement with the floor. The cap thus becomes the foot of the device.

The adjacent cross member 2 is utilized as a. part of the bracing structure for the leg. A brace H in the form of a piece of flat stock has one end bent at l8 for attachment within the angle iron 1 and the other end fastened to the cross member 2 by a suitable fastening l9.

By the means herein described, a conventional bed spring is converted into a serviceable bed without the use of a bed frame. As previously indicated, it is merely necessary to attach four legs to the spring frame I near the corners in the manner described. The bed is completed for use with a mattress, pillows and the usual linen. If desired, a head board may be mounted by suitable brackets designed to be inserted and fastened in the clips 9 at one end of the spring frame.

Although a specific embodiment of the invention has been illustrated and described, it will be understood that various alterations in the details of construction may be made without departandj bents atfli in. order, that ing from the scope of the invention as indicated by the appended claims.

What 'I claim is I,

1. In combination with a bed spring frame and a cross member secured to two opposite inner sides thereof, a leg structure comprising a U-shaped clip fastened to one of said sides and over an end of said member, and a leg member having 0ne=end received in said clip and fastened to the back thereof.

2. In combination with a bed spring frame and a cross member secured to two opposite inner sides thereof, a leg structure comprising a U-shaped clip fastened to one of said sides and over an end of said member, and a length of said clip.

3. In combination with a bed spring frame and clip fastened to one of said sides and over an end of said member, and a leg member having one end received in said clip and fastenedto the back, thereof, and a rigid brace extending from said leg member to said cross member and secured to an intermediate point of the latter.

4'. In combination with a bed spring frame and a cross member secured to two opposite inner sides angle stock having one end substantially flattened and secured to the inner surface of the back of a cross member secured to two opposite inner sides I thereof, a leg structure comprising a U -shaped 7 thereof, a leg structure comprising a U-shaped clip fastened to one of said sides and over an end of said member, and a length of angle stock having one end substantially flattened and secured to the inner surface of the back of said clip, and a rigid brace extending from said angle stock to said cross member and secured to an intermediate point of the latter.

5. In combination with a bed spring frame and a cross member secured to two opposite inner sides thereof, a leg structure comprising a U-shaped clip fastened to one of said sides and over an end ofsaid member, and a length of angle stock having one end substantially flattened and secured to the inner surface of the back of said clip, and a cap on the other end of said angle stock and having an outwardrounded dent to constitute a foot.
