This invention relates to inking mechanism, particularly inking mechanism for printing presses. It has to do with inking mechanism which is movable into and out of cooperative relationship with the form rollers of a printing press, such, for example, as inking mechanism of the so-called rollaway type.
Inking mechanism is well known which can be bodily removed or rolled away from a printing press with which the inklng mechanism is adapted to be used to facilitate work on the press when the press is not being used for printing, as, for example, when a form is being made ready, and also to provide for cleaning and repair of parts oi' the press and inking mechanism. The form inking rollers are mounted in the press and the inking mechanism which delivers ink from the ink fountain to the form rollers is separated from the form rollers when it is moved away. The inking mechanism comprises an ink fountain and suitable means for Working up the ink and delivering the worked up ink to the form rollers, which means may include an ink drum, a ductor roller or rollers between the ink fountain and the ink drum, a vibrator roller or rollers cooperating directly with the form rollers and an ink transfer roller or rollers between the ink drum and the vibrator roller or rollers.
It is frequently necessary when the inker is disposed in its inoperative position away from the press to remove the form rollers in order to gain access to portions of the press to be worked on. The form rollers are mounted in the press in position to ink the form during operation of the press. The working surfaces of the form rollers are either composition or rubber and, of course. are covered with ink. They cannot be set down on their working surfaces because the rollers would thereby be deformed and because anything coming in contact with the working surfaces of the form rollers would be smeared with ink. It has been necessary to specially provide a place to dispose the form rollers when they have been removed so that they are supported by their shafts with their working surfaces out of contact with the support. Moreover the form rollers are long and heavy, particularly in the larger sized presses, and it has generally been necessary for two men working together to remove the form rollers individually one after the other. When the form rollers are replaced they have to be replaced in similar fashion. Thus a. very considerable amount of work has been required to remove and replace the form rollers in addition to the fact that it has been necessary to specially provide a place to dispose the form rollers when removed from the press so that they will be supported by their shafts at the ends of the rollers instead of upon their working surfaces.
Inking mechanism has been devised, as disclosed in copending applications Serial Nos. 48,556 and 48,581, led September 10, 1948, which is movable into and out of cooperative relationship with respect to the press, i. e., into and out of position to deliver ink to the form rollers. and which may be so operated that when desired the form rollers may be automatically removed from the press and carried along with the inker. In such mechanism means are provided for engaging the form rollers and removing them from their supports or bearings when it is desired that the form rollers be carried along with the inker upon movement of the inker away from the press. such means being movable between operative and inoperative positions relatively to the form rollers in a direction longitudinally of the press or generally in a plane normal to the axes of the form rollers. While such mechanism is satisfactory in use a, problem incident to clearance between the form roller shafts and the means for lifting the form rollers out of their bearings is presented which results in the form roller lifting means having shallow channels for carrying the form rollers with danger that the form rollers may become accidentally dislodged from the channels.
I have devised a mechanism for the same purpose as the mechanisms of said copending applications but which obviates the problem incident to clearance above referred to and enables the form roller lifting means to have yokes or sockets of any desired size, eliminating the danger of the form rollers becoming dislodged from the relatively shallow channels referred to. I provide for moving the form roller lifting or engaging means between operative and inoperative positions relatively to the form rollers in a direction generally longitudinally of the form rollers or transversely of the inking mechanism. When the form roller engaging means are in inoperative position they are oii'set longitudinally of the form rollers or laterally of the inking mechanism from the ends of the form roller shafts so that no problem of vertical clearance between the form roller engaging means and the form roller shafts is presented. Moreover, my structure is of relatively simple, rugged and foolproof design adapted to withstand long usage without impairment of its efficiency.
I provide inking mechanism comprising supporting means. form roller means carried thereby and removable therefrom, means for delivering ink to the form roller means, the ink delivering means being movable into and out of location adjacent the form roller means when carried by the supporting means, and means movable generally in the direction of the length of the form roller means to operative position to engage the form roller means and remove the same from the supporting means upon movement of the ink delivering means out of said location and to inoperative position wherein it has no effect on the form roller means upon movement of the ink delivering means out of said location. The inking mechanism may comprise generally parallel side frame members and the supporting means may be positioned between the general planes of the side frame members. The form roller engaging means may be movable between operative and inoperative positions transversely of the general planes of the side frame members. The means for delivering ink to the form roller means may be carried by the side frame members.
The means for engaging the form roller means may comprise opposed members movable generally in the direction of the length of the form rollers means or transversely of the general planes of the side frame members between operative and inoperative positions. The opposed members may move toward each other to their operative positions and away from each other to their inoperative positions. I preferably provide means connecting the opposed members for moving the same in opposite directions generally in the direction of the length of the form roller means between their operative and inoperative positions. I may employ operating means movable generally in the direction of the length of the form roller means for moving the form roller engaging means between operative and inoperative position.
I preferably employ turnable means turnable about an axis extending generally in the direction of the length of the form roller means, operating means movable generally in the direction of the length of the form roller means upon turning of the turnable means and connections between the operating means and the form roller engaging means whereby the latter are operated by the former. The turnable means may be carried by the side frame members and may be turnable about an axis extending generally transversely of the general planes of the side frame members. The turnable means may comprise a shaft rotatably carried by the side frame members, and cam means may be provided on the shaft cooperating with means on the opposed form roller engaging members whereby said members are operated by the cam means upon turning of the shaft. Guiding means are preferably provided for the opposed members insuring substantially rectilinear movement thereof and preventing turning thereof with the shaft. Springs means may be provided urging the opposed members to inoperative position, the cam means moving them to operative position against the action of the spring means upon turning of the turnable means.
Other details, object and advantages of the invention will become apparent as the following description of a present preferred embodiment thereof proceeds.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings, there is shown a printing press designated generally by reference numeral 2 which may be of conventional fiat bed and cylinder type and which may operate in normal manner in printing. Since the invention is concerned only with the inking mechanism the remainder of the press is not shown. The press has adjacent opposite sides thereof and extending longitudinally of the press in parallel relation bars 3 each carrying brackets I, the brackets l being arranged in opposed pairs as shown in Figure 5. There are as many pairs of brackets I as there are form rollers in the press. Each bracket 4 is slidable along the bar il which carries it so as to assume a desired adjusted position on the bar and is fastened in such position by a set screw 5.
Each bracket 4 has a portion 6 projecting lnwardly of the press from the bar 3 carrying the bracket and which carries at its inner end an upwardly open form roller bearing 1 vertically adjustable by an adjusting screw l. The bearings 'I are thus disposed in transversely aligned pairs as shown in Figure 5, each being adapted to have a form roller shaft portion to be carried thereby disposed therein by generally downward movement and removed therefrom by generally upward movement.
There are shown two form rollers 9. Any desired number of form rollers may be employed, one or more. Each form roller has an enlarged central or working portion lil, necks Il at both ends of the portion HI and shaft portions l2 at the ends of the roller connected with the necks Il, the shaft portions I2 being, when the form rollers are in use, journaled in the bearings 1. Each shaft portion I! extends outwardly beyond the outer edge of the corresponding bearing 1 as shown in Figure 5. The press bed which carries the type form moves under and in contact with the bottoms of the portions I0 of the form rollers, the form rollers thus inking the form. Ink is delivered to the form rollers by ink delivering means now to be described.
The lnking mechanism comprises a frame having opposed frame members Il which extend in generally vertical planes parallel to each other. The frame members I3 are suitably fastened together by cross members not shown. Journaled in the frame members I3 is a shaft li. Adjacent opposite ends of the shaft I4 and disposedinside the respective frame members i3 are pinions il which are keyed to the shaft Il. The press frame 2 has an extension Il which comprises opposed portions extending longitudinally of the press beneath the pinions i5, each such portion having fastened to its upper surface an upwardly facing rack l1 with which one of the pinions Il meshes, the inker frame comprising the frame members t3 and the mechanism carried thereby being partially supported by the press frame extension II through the racks I1. As will presently appear the inker frame may be bodily augularly displaced about the axis of the shaft Il.
The opposed portions of the press frame extension Il also have tracks Il and each of the inkel' frame members I3 carries a roller Il adapted during movement of the inker toward and away from the press, as will be presently explained. to ride on one of the tracks Il. At the righthand end of each track I3, viewing Figures l, 2. 3 and 4, there is a track extension member 2l which is vertically movable and which when in its uppermost position has its upper surface at the level of the upper surface of the corresponding track Il and in longitudinal alignment therewith so as in effect to form a short extension of the track. Each extension member 2l has a sleeve 2| projecting downwardly therefrom through which passes a bolt 22 having a head 23. Each member 22 has a socket 24 receiving the head 23 of the corresponding bolt 22, upward movement of the member being limited by engagement of the bottom of the socket 2l with the under surface of the bolt head 22. Each bolt 22 and sleeve 2i are disposed within a bore 2l in the press frame extension Il and each bolt 22 is screwed into the press frame extension. A compression coil spring 28 is confined in the bottom of the bore and presses upwardly against the bottom surface of the sleeve 2| so as normally to maintain the member 2l in its uppermost position as shown in Figures 2, 3 and 4. The springs 2l are strong enough to hold the members 2l in their uppermost positions when the rollers il and the mechanism connected therewith are supported by the members 2l as shown in Figures 2 and ,4.
iJournaled in the inker frame in a transverse shaft 21 to one end of which is fastened by a pin 2l a handle 29 for turning the shaft. Adjacent its opposite ends and within the inker frame members i3 the shaft 21 carries eccentrica 3l. The press frame 2 has extensions 3| each disposed above one of the eccentrica 30 having a vertically oriented tapped hole into which is threaded a bolt 32 having a head 33. a nut 34 being adapted to be threaded onto each bolt 32 and turned up against the corresponding extension 3| to maintain the bolt in adjusted position. Each extension 3| is counterbored at 35 to provide clearance for the boit head 3l upon vertical adjustment of the bolt. When the inker is in operative position relatively to the press each of the eccentrics 3| is adapted to engage the bottom surface of the corresponding bolt head 33. But at the same time the respective rollers i3 are disposed upon the track extensions 2li. With the parts thus disposed turning of the handle 28 causes rotation of the shaft 21 and of the eccentrics 30. V centrics 30 engage the lower surfaces of the bolt heads 33 and since the bolts 32 are ilxedly positioned in the press frame extensions 3i turning of the eccentrica 3l causes angular displacement of the inker frame in the clockwise direction viewing Figure l, such angular displacement being accompanied .by downward depression of the track extension 20 by the rollers Il which are disposed thereupon as shown in Figure l. When the inker frame has been thus ansularly displaced about the axis of the shaft Il the inker is in operative relationship with respect to the press and the ink delivering means, presently to be described, are in position to deliver ink to the form rollers 9.
The ink delivering means comprises an ink fountain 30 having a fountain roll 31 for delivering ink from the ink fountain in usual manner. The fountain roll 31 ls keyed to a shaft 33 disposed generally about the shaft il. There is provided the usual ink drum 33 and a ductor roller 40 for transferring ink from the fountain roll 31 to the ink drum 39. Ink on the ink drum 3l is worked up by rollers 4| and 42, the latter transferring ink to the vibrator roller 43 which in turn seats in the saddle between the two form rollers 3 and transfers the ink to the form rollers. The ink transferring and working up functions may be performed in conventional manner and the invention is not dependent upon any particular arrangement of ink delivering means. It is suillcient to point out that when the inker is in operative position relatively to the press as shown in Figure l the vibrator rollers 43 seats in the saddle between the form rollers 9 and delivers ink thereto.
With the parts in operative position as shown in Fig-ure l, when it is desired to roll the inker away from the press the handle 29 is operated to turn the shaft 21 through approximately 180 which in turn rotates the eccentrica 30 through a similar angle so that the high points of the eccentrics are disposed downwardly relatively to the axis of the shaft 21 as shown in Figures 2. 3 and 4. Such turning of the shaft 21 is accompanied by upward movement under the action of the compression coil springs 2l, the members 20 being stopped when their upper surfaces are in alignment with the upper surfaces of the tracks i 3 by the bolt heads 23 as above explained. But upward movement of the members 20 causes constant upward movement of the rollers I9 which at the time rest upon the members 23, and such upward movement of the rollers Il in turn causes angular displacement of the inker about the axis of the shaft I I from the position shown in Figure i to the position shown in Figures 2 and 4. Such angular displacement of the inker raises the vibrator roller 43 out of contact with the form rollers 9 and so that its lowermost point is above the uppermost points of the form rollers 9. thus providing for movement of the inker toward the left away from the press without interference between the vibrator roller and the form rollers. Movement of the inker away from the press is accomplished by turning the shaft Il by means presently to be described. Since the pinions I I are keyed to the shaft Il and mesh with the stationary racks i1 turning of the shaft Il in the counterclockwise direction viewing Figure 1 causes the pinions l5 to turn relatively to the racks i1 and hence the inker frame and everything carried thereby is bodily linearly displaced toward the left. During such displacement oi' the inker the rollers I9 ride upon the of the track extensions 2l tracks I4. The inker is shown in position spaced from the press in Figure 3.
When it is desired to return the inker to operative position the shaft I4 is turned in the clockwise direction until the inker assumes the position of Figures 2 and 4 whereupon the shaft 21 is turned through approximately 180 to cause the eccentrics 30 to angularly displace the inker back to the position of Figure i with the vibrator roller 43 in engagement with the form rollers 9 so as to deliver ink thereto.
Extending through the inker frame from side to side and journaled in the generally parallel side frame members Il is an element shown as being in the form of a shaft 44 constituting guide means as will presently appear. The shaft 44 projects outwardly at both sides of the inker and has fastened thereto at each side a knob 45 for turning the shaft. The knobs 45 may be pinned to the shaft 44. The pin for pinning one of the knobs 45 to the shaft 44 is shown at 46. The pin 46 projects outwardly from the knob at one side to serve as a stop member to limit the amplitude of turning movement of the shaft 44. Projecting from the side frame member I3 at the side of the inker at which the pin 46 is located are two stop pins 41 disposed in the path of movement of the projecting portion of the pin 40 upon turning of the shaft 44. The shaft 44 is turnable between a position as shown in Figure 5 in which the projecting portion of the pin 46 engages one of the stop pins 41 and a position as shown in Figure 7 in which the projecting portion of the pin 46 engages the other of the stop pins 41. Fixed to the shaft 44 adiacent the respective ends thereof and, if desired, integral with the knobs 45 are cams 48 having inclined faces as shown in Figures 5 and 7 and which turn with the shaft 44.
Disposed adjacent the respective ends of the form rollers 9 are opposed members 4B which are movable between the operative position shown in Figure 5 and the inoperative position shown in Figure 'I and are for the purpose when operative of lifting the form rollers from their bearings 1 upon movement of the inker out of inking position. Each of the members 4! has a socket ill for one end of each form roller, the sockets being of ample size to prevent accidental dislodgement of the form rollers therefrom. Each member 49 has a. hub 5I through which the shaft 44 extends and a cam t! adapted to engage and cooperate with the cam 4l and constituting operating means for the member 49. The hubs 5I are in guided relationship with the shaft 44 so that the members 49 are guided thereby for movement axially of the shaft 44. Each of the members 49 carries a guide pin 53 guidingly received within a drilled guide opening 54 in one of the side frame members i3. The guide pin 53 insures that the member 48 carrying it will partake of substantial rectilinear movement and will not turn with the shaft 44.
Fastened to the shaft 44 by set screws 55 are collars 5I. Between each collar 5i and the adjacent hub 5I is a compression coil spring 51. The springs 51 resillently urge the members 49 outwardly or toward the inside faces of the side frame members I3. When the shaft 44 is in the position of Figure 'I with the inclined faces of the cams 4I and 52 lying in face-to-face engagement with each other the members 4l are pushed by the springs 51 outwardly against the inner faces of the side frame members Il as shown in Figure 7. When the members 48 are in that position they are inoperative with respect to the form rollers and upon movement of the inker out of inking position they have no eil'ect on the form rollers but move past the ends of the form rollers. When the shaft 44 is turned by one of the knobs 4l the cams 4l force the members 40 inwardly against the action of the springs l1 so that when the shaft 44 has turned through approximately from the position of Figure 'I to the position of Figure 5 the members 49 are in the operative position shown in Figure 5. With the members 49 in that position they engage and lift the form rollers out of the bearings 1` when the inker moves out of inking position. Each end of each form roller is received in one of the sockets SII which is of ample size to retain it against accidental displacement therefrom. Thus. when the members 49 are in their operative positions as shown in Figure 5, instead of the inker being moved away from the press leaving the form rollers in position in the press the form rollers are carried away along with the inker. When the inker is returned to operative position the form rollers come back with it and are replaced in their bearings 1 as shown in Figure l.
If it is desired to roll the inker away from the press while leaving the form rollers in their bearings 1. the shaft 44 is turned to the position of Figure 'l to move the members 49 to their inoperative positions. When the members 49 are thus positioned and the inker is angularly displaced to the position shown in Figure 2 the members 48 simply rise without carrying the form rollers with them, passing outside the ends of the form roller shafts. Figure 2 shows the inker in angularly displaced position ready to be rolled away with the members 49 in inoperative position and Figure 3 shows the inker in rolled away position leaving the form rollers 8 in place in their bearings 1. Figures 2 and 4 correspond to each other except that in Figure 4 the members 49 are in operative position and have lifted the form rollers up out of their bearings 1 so that when the inker is rolled away to the left the form rollers will go with the inker, leaving the bearings l empty and hence the space therebetween available for work.
Outside the inker frame the shaft I4 has a pin 58 passing therethrough and projecting outwardly therefrom at both sides. Mounted for sliding movement along the shaft I4 is a handle 58 having at its outer portion a hub B0 slotted at 0I and having at its inner portion and integral therewith a gear 62. An idler pinion 63 rotatably mounted on a stub shaft 44 meshes with a gear 46 fixed to the shaft $8. The handle 59 may be moved axially of the shaft I4 so that either the slots BI embrace the pin 5I or the gear Il meshes with the pinion 63. When the handle i! is in position with the slots GI embracing the pin 5l and the handle is operated to turn about the axis of the shaft I4 the shaft I4 is turned, resulting in movement of the inker toward or away from the press. depending upon the direction of turning of the handle. When the gear l2 is in mesh with the pinion Il and the handle is turned it causes turning of the fountain roll 81 through the gear l5.
While I have shown and described a present preferred embodiment of the invention it is to be distinctly understood that the invention is not limited thereto but may be otherwise variously ebhgdied within the scope of the following c s.
I claim:
l. Inking mechanism comprising generally parallel side frame members, supporting means positioned between the general planes of the side frame members. form roller means carried by the supporting means and removable therefrom. means carried by the side frame members for delivering ink to the form roller means. the ink delivering means being movable into and out of location adjacent the form roller means when carried by the supporting means, opposed members respectively carried by the side frame members movable generally toward each other transversely of the general planes of the side frame members to operative positions to engage the form roller means and remove the same from the supporting means upon movement of the ink delivering means out of said location and to inoperative position wherein they have no effect on the form roller means upon movement of the ink delivering means out of said location. a shaft rotatably carried by the side framev members to turn about an axis extending generally transversely of the general planes of the side frame members, cam means on the shaft and means on the opposed members engaging the cam means whereby the opposed members are operated by the cam means upon turning of the shaft.
2. Inking mechanism comprising generally parallel side frame members, supporting means positioned between the general planes of the side frame members, form roller means carried by the supporting means and removable therefrom. means carried by the side frame members for delivering ink to the form roller means, the ink delivering means being movable into and out of location adjacent the form roller means when carried by the supporting means, turnable means carried by the side frame members turnable about an axis extending generally transversely of the general planes of the side frame members, opp'osed members respectively having openings through which the turnable means passes movable generally toward each other transversely of the general planes of the side frame members to operative position to engage the form roller means and remove the same from the supporting means upon movement of the ink delivering means out of said location and to inoperative position wherein they have no eifect on the form roller means upon movement of the ink delivermeans out of said location, cam means on the turnable means and means on the opposed members engaging the cam means whereby the opposed members are operated by the cam means upon turning of the turnable means.
3. Inking mechanism comprising generally Vparallel side frame members, supporting means positioned between the general planes of the side frame members, form roller means carried by the supporting means and removable therefrom, means carried by the side frame members for delivering ink to the form roller means, the ink delivering means being movable into and out of location adjacent the form roller means when carried by the supporting means. a shaft rotatably carried by the side frame members to turn about an axis extending generally transversely of the general planes of the side frame members. opposed members respectively having hubs through which the shaft passes movable generally along the shaft toward each other transversely of the general planes of the side frame members to operative position to engage the form roller means and remove the same from the supportlil ing means upon movement of the ink delivering means out of said location and to inoperative position wherein they have no effect on the form roller means upon movement of the lnk delivering means out of said location. guiding means for the opposed members insuring substantially rectilinear movement thereof and preventing turning thereof with the shaft. cam means on the shaft and means on the opposed members engaging the cam means whereby the opposed members are operated by the cam means upon turning of the shaft.
4. Inking mechanism comprising generally parallel side frame members. supporting means positioned between the general planes of the side frame members, form roller means carried .by the supporting means and removable therefrom, means carried by the side frame members for delivering ink to the form roller means. the ink delivering means being movable into and out of location adjacent the form roller means when carried by the supporting means. a shaft rotatably carried by the side frame members to turn about an axis extending generally transversely of the general planes of the side frame members. opposed members respectively having hubs through which the shaft passes movable generally along the shaft toward each -other transversely of the general planes of the side frame members to operative position to engage the form roller means and remove the same from the supporting means upon movement of the ink delivering means out of said location and to inoperative position wherein they have no effect on the form roller means upon movement of the ink delivering means out of said location, guiding means for the opposed members insuring substantially rectilinear movement thereof and preventing turning thereof with the shaft, spring means urging the opposed members to inoperative position, cam means on the shaft and means on the opposed members engaging the cam means whereby the opposed members are moved by the cam means to operative position against the action of the spring means upon turning of the shaft.
5. Inking mechanism comprising supporting means, form roller means carried thereby and removable therefrom, means for delivering ink to the form roller means. the lnk delivering means being movable into and out of location adjacent the form roller means when carried by the supporting means. guide means extending generally in the direction of the length of the form roller means and means mounted on and movable generally along the guide means to operative position to engage the form roller means and remove the same from the supporting means upon movement of the ink delivering means out of said location and to inoperative position wherein it has no effect on the form roller means upon movement of the ink delivering means out of said location.

Inking mechanism comprising supporting means, form roller means carried thereby and removable therefrom. means for delivering ink to the form roller means, the ink delivering means being movable into and out o! location adjacent the iorm roller means when carried by the supporting means, guide means extending generally in the direction o! the length of the form roller means and opposed members mounted on and movable generally along the guide means toward each other to operative position to engage the form roller means and remove the same from the supporting means upon movement o! the ink delivering means out of said location and movable generally along the guide means away from each other to inoperative position wherein they have no eilect on the form roller means upon movement ci the ink delivering means out of said location.
9. linking mechanism comprising supporting means, form roller means carried thereby and removable therefrom, means for delivering ink to the form roller means, the ink delivering means being movable into and out o! location adjacent the form roller means when carried by the supporting means, guide means, opposed members mounted on and movable generally along the guide means to operative position to engage the form roller means and remove the same from the supporting means upon movement oi the ink delivering means out of said location and to inoperative position wherein they have no effect on the form roller means upon movement oi' the ink delivering means out of said location and means connecting the opposed members for moving the same in opposite directions generally along the guide means between said operative and inoperative positions. l

Inking mechanism comprising supporting means, form roller means carried thereby and removable therefrom, means for delivering ink to the form roller means, the ink delivering means being movable into and out of location adjacent the form roller means when carried by the supporting means, means movable to operative position to engage the form roller means and remove the same from the supporting means upon movement oi' the ink delivering means out of said location and movable to inoperative position wherein it has no efiect on the form roller means upon movement o! the ink delivering means out of said location, guide means extending generally in the direction o! the length of the form roller means and operating means mounted on and movable generally along the guide means for moving the i'orm roller engaging means between said operative and inoperative positions.

Inking mechanism comprising supporting means, form roller means carried thereby and removable therefrom, means for delivering ink to the form roller means, the inl: delivering means being movable into and out oi location adjacent the form roller means when carried by the supporting means, means movable to operative position to engage the form roller means and remove the same from the supporting means upon movement of the ink delivering means out of said location and movable to inoperative position wherein it has no eiIect on the form roller means upon movement of the ink delivering means out oi' said location, an element extending generally in the direction of the length oi the form roller means, turnable means mounted for turning movement about the axis of said element, operating means mounted for movement generally in the direction of the length of the form roller means upon turning o! the turnable means and connections between the operating means and the form roller engaging means whereby the latter are operated by the former.

Inking mechanism comprising supporting means, form roller means carried thereby and removable therefrom, means for delivering ink to the form roller means, the ink delivering means being movable into and out of location adjacent the form roller means when carried by the supporting means, opposed members movable generally toward each other generally in the direction of the length of the form roller means to operative position to engage the form roller means and remove the same from the supporting means upon movement of the ink delivering means out of said location and movable generally away from each other generally in the direction of the length of the form roller means to inoperative position wherein they have no eiiect on the form roller means upon movement oi the ink delivering Ymeans out of said location, turnable means turnable about an axis extending generally in the direction of the length of the form roller means and cam means between the turnable means and the opposed members whereby the latter are operated by the former.

Inking mechanism comprising generally parallel side frame members. supporting means positioned between the general planes of the side frame members, form roller means carried by the supporting means and removable therefrom, means carried by the side frame members for delivering ink to the form roller means, the ink delivering means being movable into and out of location adjacent the form roller means when carried by the supporting means. guide means extending generally transversely of the general planes of the side frame members, opposed members mounted on and movable generally along the guide means to operative positon to engage the form roller means and remove the same from the supporting means upon movement of the ink delivering means out o! said location and to inoperative position wherein they have no eilect on the form roller means upon movement of the ink delivering means out oi' said location. turnable means turnable about an axis extending generally transversely of the general planes of the side frame members and connections between the turnable means and the opposed members whereby the latter are operated by the former.

Inking mechanism comprising generally parallel side frame members, supporting means positioned between the general planes of the side frame members, i'orm roller means carried by the supporting means and removable therefrom, means carried by the side frame members for delivering ink to the form roller means, the ink delivering means being movable into and out of location adjacent the form roller means when carried by the supporting means. opposed members respectively carried by the side frame members and mounted for movement generally toward each other transversely of the general planes of the side frame members to operative position to engage the form roller means and remove the same from the supporting means upon movement of the ink delivering means out oi' said location 14 and to inoperative positon wherein they have no eilect on the form roller means upon movement of the ink delivering means out oi' said location, turnable means carried by the side frame members turnable about an axis extending generally transversely o! the general planes of the side frame members and connections between the turnable means and the opposed members whereby the latter are operated by the former.
