longitudinally arranged inwardly projecting studs I2 to engage perforations I3 in the pad of tickets, generally indicated at I4 and later to be described in detail.

Further following the conventional practice, plate 5 is provided with an inner guideway I5 to receive a pair of flat locking rods I6, each provided near their inner adjacent ends with an operating button I1 that slides in a slot to be engageable manually below the bottom surface of plate 5. These two buttons are normally forced apart in their slots by a leaf spring I8. Thus, after flap 1 is raised a pad of tickets is inserted over studs I2 and the flap released to hold them in place. The two buttons II are pressed toward each other while inward pressure isapplied on plate 5 until rods I6 are within the two bottom end flanges I9 to lock the bottom plates 5 and I0 in the position generally indicated in Figure 5. It is further general practice to position a series of longitudinally slidable cutters to be adjacent the bottom of the front wall so that as each customers coupon is severedalong the severing edge, dened by the lower end of the front wall, the marking cutter indents a notch in the edge of the customers receipt while leaving a corresponding projection on the remaining auditors stub. In such practice the identical vital information appears in parallel duplicate on the customers receipt and the auditors stub and, in the case of a bus ticket, this entails a repetition of printing of a long list of stations in duplicate.

As stated before, this practice is costly and wasteful. For instance, such a printed pad is useful for one particular bus run, only, and no other. Also in the event of a rerouting or any change in stations or station identification, the pad, and all like it, become useless.

Therefore, I contemplate the provision of a pad of tickets that may be universal in use and I have generally indicated the same in Figure 1. Instead of, for instance, printing the duplicate long lists of names of stations, I print a parallel duplicate of numbers, or other symbols, say from numbers l to 37 or any other series of numbers which would be estimated to be sufficient for the longest list of stations for any known or contemplated bus run.

This being a part of my invention it necessitates a revision of the conventional holder and such reorganization to make my new system of ticketv pads feasible comprises the other part of my invention. Accordingly, I provide on the top wall 2 a superimposed longitudinal channel way to receive a transparent window 2|, underneath which I may removably slide a master card 22. As viewed in Figure 2, the top end of the channel way is closed and the bottom end open to permit insertion and withdrawal of the master card. At the lower end of the guideway 20, and in top plate 2, is a half-round button B, normally spring pressed upwardly to have its flat side engage the end of the master card. Push' ing down on button B permits the master card to be removed and replaced. The master card is shown with such notations as Half Fare, Ticket and Full Fare which three are identical with that of the customers coupon 23, and as a matter of fact, with that of the auditors stub 24 which is hidden in the holder. The master card further lists thirty-seven stations by name, opposite which are the numerals l to 37, inclusive. AThe master card may also haveV on its face a Zone number, here shown as Zone 6.. Y

Use of such a system involves a further modification of the conventional holder in that I prefer to have a pointer for the master card in conjunction with each coupon cutting marker. Accordingly, I mount in the end walls an internal longitudinally extending rod 25, about which I loop a hard spring metal member, generally indicated as 26 in Figures 5 and 6, which is longitudinally slidable in suitable slots in front wall I and top vwall 2. One end of member 26 terminates in a pointer 2l to slide along channel .-20 over a portion of the window over the master "card 22 and the other end terminates in a pointed ""cutting edge 28 to engage the pad at the holder 4 station Viking to Raven and the passenger alights at Bower and pays full fare to Midway, both intermediate stations. The operator moves member 26 until on the master card its pointer registers Full Fare, member 2,9 until its pointer registers on the master card with Bower-10 and member 3i) until its pointer registers on the master card with Midway-30. He knows that the cutter ends must likewise register on the customers coupon with FulL l0 and 30. He severs the customers receipt along the cutting edge and hands it to the customer, who at the end of the ride returns the same. During his ride his coupon is a receipt for the transportation forwhich he has paid. The operator then ilexes the bottom plates 5 and Il) inwardly about their hinges 6 and 9 and the forward edge of the auditors stub 24 is caught and retained behind lips 3| punched out of a plate 32 welded to front wall I to store them out of the way for succeeding severing operations.

The master cards, for universal use of my ticket pad system, may in scope be divided into zones for a nation-wide transportation system. Rerouting or change of any particular run need not change its zone number but only requires a reprinting of one master card. At the end or the run, the operator merely removes the auditors stubs, folds them and marks the back of the pack with a zone number corresponding to the zone number on the master card and to avoid losing them he may merely tuck them behind the interior leaf spring 33 in the holder wall for safekeeping.

Itis to be understood that the use 0f the number symbols on the mastercard opposite the station identifications is optional and I may elect to either use them or not as the occasion de mands. Y

It is also to be understood that while I have il-` lustrated my invention as especially suitable in connection with transportation systems, it is no manner limited to such use.

I claim:

1. In a holder for a pad of tickets and stubs with duplicate lines of symbols on each, the cornbination of a casing having means for holding and concealing said stubs, said casing being open at one end and through which open end said tickets extend to be exposed toview, a cutting blade on said casing at its open end with which cutting blade the line of juncture of said tickets and stubs is aligned, cutting fingers mounted on said casing to be-slidable longitudinally thereof parallel with Ysaid cutting blade to mark both the tickets and stubs when torn along said blade, an elongated master card containing a series of parallel lines of identifying printed matter, a holder on said casing for removably receiving and holding said master card to align said lines of printed matter thereon with the corresponding lines of symbols on said tickets and stubs, said cutting ngers having their upper ends terminating in indicating pointers longitudinally slidably movable, with said fingers, on said casing over said master card holder to register with the lines of identifying printed matter thereon.

2. In a holder for a pad of tickets and stubs with duplicate lines of symbols on each, the combination of a casing having means for holding and concealing said stubs, said casing being open at one end and through which open end said tickets extendl to be exposed to View, a cutting blade on said casing at its open end with which cutting blade the line of juncture of said tickets and stubs is aligned, cutting fingers mounted on said casing to be slidable longitudinally thereof parallel with and having their lower ends terminating adjacent the upper surface of said cutting blade to mark both the tickets and stubs when torn along said blade, an elongated master card containing a, series of parallel lines of identifying printed matter, a holder on said casing for removably receiving and holding said master card to align said lines of printed matter thereon with the corresponding lines of symbols on said tickets and stubs, said cutting fingers having their upper ends terminating in indicating pointers longitudinally slidably movable, with said lingers, on said casing over said master card holder to register with the lines of identifying printed matter thereon.

3. In a holder for a pad of tickets and stubs with duplicate lines of symbols on each, the combination of a casing having means for holding and concealing said stubs, said casing being open at one end and through which open end said tickets extend to be exposed to View,l a cutting blade on said casing at its open end with which cutting blade the line of juncture of said tickets and stubs is aligned, resilient means for urging said cutting blade into engagement with said tickets and stubs at their line of juncture, cutting lingers mounted on said casing to be slidable longitudinally thereof parallel with and having their lower ends terminating adjacent the upper surface of said cutting blade to mark both the tickets and stubs when torn along said blade, an elongated master card containing a series of parallel lines of identifying printed matter, a holder on said casing for removably receiving and holding said master card to align said lines of printed matter thereon with the corresponding lines of symbols on said tickets and stubs, said cutting iingers having their upper ends terminating in indicating points longitudinally slidably movable, with said fingers, on said casing over said master card holder to register with the lines of identifying printed matter thereon.
