4 Claims. 1
This invention relates to a package for the bristles of a brush and more particularly to a transparent case to be used with a brush for display purposes.
When brushes are displayed for sale or other purposes, it is necessary to cover the bristles to protect them from dust and dirt. At the same time, it is desirable to have the bristles visible so that prospective purchasers or others may see them Without removing the covers. Certain prior brush containers have been constructed of transparent material, but these containers are made of paper or other thin material which is not rigid. Therefore these containers do not prevent the bristles from becoming crooked and twisted if the brush is inspected, especially if it is rested on the ends of the bristles during this inspection. Also, wrappers made of such pliable materials are without form and therefore fit closely to the bristles and tend to fall in at the tip of the wrapper in such a manner as to compress the ends of the bristles. This action has a harmful effect on the shape of the brush.
One object of this invention is to provide a transparent brush package which supports and maintains the bristles in proper shape.
Another object is to provide a brash package cf simple and inexpensive construction which shields the bristles from dust and dirt, protects the bristles from twisting and deformation and yet is transparent so as to display the brush effectively.
Other objects will appear from the following description, read in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of a brush package embodying the present invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional View of the package shown in perspective in Figure 1, as seen from one side, and showing the bristles and ferrule of a brush in place in the package.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view of another embodiment of this invention.
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line 44 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a vertical sectional View of a third form of the invention.
Figure 6 is a sectional view on the line 6-5 of Figure 5.
Like reference characters refer to like parts throughout the several figures of the drawings.
In the drawings, the handle of a brush which may be of oval, oblong or flat shape is indicated by the numeral I. The handle I is broken off in the drawings at the shoulder, to which is secured .the ribs 6 of the ferrule.
(Cl. ZOE- 15.33)
a ferrule or ring 2 for holding in place the bristles 3. These bristles 3 may be of any suitable type of hair or of any other suitable material and may be secured to the brush by any appropriate means, as by vulcanizing their ends in rubber.
In the embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, the brush package itself comprises a frame 4, which is preferably a strip or sheet of cardboard, pasteboard or other appropriate inexpensive, stiff material of suflicient width to extend across the thickness of the brush. Frame 4 constitutes the lining or skeleton of the package and is bent in .two right angles'to form a U-shaped or channel-shaped reinforcing member in three sections enclosing. snugly two sides and the bottom end of the bristle bundle or cluster 3.
About the three sections and the open sides of reinforcing strip 4 is wrapped a sheet of transparent material 5, such as cellophane or other transparent cellulose or plastic, waxed paper or other desired material. This transparent material 5 may be folded about framework 4 so as to hold the framework in to provide a snug fitting against The envelope formed by material 5 is open at its upper end to receive the ferrule 2 of the brush. The folded edges 1 of material 5 may be secured together by any suitable means, such as heat welding, cementing, gluing or other appropriate method. The material 5 is held in a distended position by the tension of strip 4 at its bent corners, where the cardboard or other material of the strip tends to open the bent corners outwardly to flatten the strip.
The form of he invention shown in Figures 3 and 4 includes a lining or sheet 8 of cardboard .or other stiff material like that of frame 4 of the form shown in Figures 1 and 2. The lining or frame 8 is channel-shaped or U-shaped so as to enclose three sides of ferrule 2 and bristle bundle 3 of a brush. The lining 8 is enclosed an all sides and at its bottom end, but not at the top end,
which is open to receive the ferrule 2': of the brush, by transparent material 5. The latter compresses framework 8 against ribs 6 of ferrule 2 to hold the package to the brush. The material 5 is folded and the edges are secured together at l by cementing or by other means.
In Figures 5 and 6 is illustrated a third embodiment of the invention wherein a frame or sheet- 9 of cardboard or similar material is bent once to form a right-angled or L-shaped supporting lin ing. Frame 9 may extend either partially or all the way across one side of ferrule 2 and bristle bundle 3 of the brush and also contacts another rule by being folded at l, where the edges of material are glued, cemented or otherwise secured together. As in the other embodiments, the easing formed by material 5 is open at its upper end to receive the ferrule 2 of the brush.
In use, a brush is inserted in the package when it is desired to place the brush on display or for other reasons it is desired to have the brush visible while at the same time providing protection for the bristles from dust and dirt. The package is maintained in position on the brush by frictional contact of lining 4, 8 or 9- with ribs or ridges 6 of ferrule 2 of the brush. The package, because of the'support provided bythe lining, protects the bristles from becoming twisted, mashed or otherwise deformed and the transparent cover 5 protects the bristles from dust, dirt, moisture or other matter which might collect on the bristles and cause either physical deterioration to them or make their appearance unsightly.
The package is of simple constructiomis easily manufactured and employs only a small amount of materials, so that it is inexpensive.
