This invention relates to disposable liquid dispensers and more particularly to sanitary drinking devices for attachment and use with liquid containers.

An important object of this invention is to provide a drinking device which may be attached directly to a liquid container so that the liquid may be drunk from the container without using any separate receptacle and at the same time providing a sanitary means of drinking from the container.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device which has a disposable sanitary drinking sleeve which may be readily attached to a liquid container and from which liquid may be drunk without the necessity of contacting the opening of the container.

Another object of the invention is to provide a simplified and inexpensive means for attaching a sanitary disposable drinking lip to the mouth of a container in substantially leak-proof connection.

The invention includes a disposable member for use as a drinking or dispensing lip or sleeve and is adapted to be fixed to the mouth of a container by a collar member having a configuration and size to fit within the mouth of the container. A disposable member, such as the open-ended drinking sleeve or lip l 9 is provided with an outwardly extending flange H. The drinking sleeve may be of any suitable or convenient crosssection, such as the cylindrical shape shown in the figures. The shape of the sleeve I is controlled by the shape of the mouth of the container upon which it is contemplated to affix it, as will be more fully discussed below. A collar I2 is provided which is of the same cross-sectional 2 shape as the drinking sleeve l0 and is shown in the drawings as cylindrical. The collar I2 is sufficiently large to fit snugly around the lower end of the drinking sleeve I0 as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The lower end l5 of the collar i2 is adapted to engage the flange II provided at the lower end of the drinking sleeve l0. Spring clips or clamps [3 may be suitably fixed by welding or by other means to the outer surface of the collar [2 and may be arranged at spaced intervals around the periphery of the collar as shown in Fig. 3. The clamps 13 extend downward substantially parallel to the central axis of the collar l2 and are provided with clamp hooks l6 adjacent the lower extremity of their extensions.

When it is desired to attach the drinking sleeve It] to a container such as that shown at M, the hooks l6 are spring biased over the beaded edge I! of the container [4. The flange II of the drinking sleeve [0 is disposed between the lower end E5 of the collar l2 and a ledge portion i8 adjacent the inner side of the beaded edge around the container mouth and, as the clamp hooks l6 are pressed into the position shown in Fig. 2, the material of the drinking sleeve which is in the flange H is compressed between the

15 and 18 thereby forming a substantially liquid tight connection between the container [4 and the superimposed drinking sleeve 10.

The device as illustrated and described above is contemplated for use with a cylindrical container such as a fruit juice can or beer can and as it is customary in opening such cans to merely provide punctures, as illustrated at H) and 20, in the lid, sufficient of the lid surface adjacent the inside of the beaded edge I! will remain as an inner ledge 18 so as to form an abutment against which the flange ll may be compressed by the lower end l5 of the collar I2. However, it will be appreciated that where no inner ledge such as I8 remains on the inside of the beaded edge, because of removal of the entire top or lid, the lower flange of the drinking sleeve may be arranged to extend further outwardly so that the lower end E5 of collar 12 will press the flange against the upper or inner side of the bead I! while the hook members It are pressing against the lower sideof the bead.

It will be appreciated that the open-ended disposable drinking sleeve must be of a size and shape to conform to the shape of the mouth of the container with which it is associated and similarly the collar must be suitably adapted for the use contemplated.

Although the description of the device herein has been limited to a cylindrical drinking sleeve for association with a liquid container, it will be appreciated that a disposable member providing a pouring lip or spout is within the contemplation of this invention. Such a pouring lip might be substantially conical in shape providing a funnel-like spout or it might be a substantially cylindrical shape with a pouring spout provided at one point on the cylindrical brim.

The member which has been characterized as a drinking sleeve may be made of paper or similar disposable material which is liquid resistant and has suitable compressible qualities to make it effective when the flange H serves as a gasket between the liquid container and the sleeve. However, if it is desired to provide a more permanent material for the drinking sleeve or pouring spout, plastic or slightly deformable material would be suitable.

In accordance with the provisions of the patent statutes, the principle of operation of this invention has been herein described together with the elements which are now considered the best embodiment thereof but it is desired to have it understood that the structure disclosed is only illustrative and the invention can be carried out by other means. Also, while it is designed to use the various features and elements in the combinations and relations described, some of these may be altered and modified without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

What is claimed is:

1. A liquid dispenser for use in connection with a container having a generally cylindrical beaded edge, comprising a cylindrical disposable member open at both ends and provided with an outwardly extending flange, at one of said ends, a cylindrical collar sized to receive the disposable member and to abut said flange, a plurality of spring clips afiixed to and spaced around the outside of said collar and extending substantially parallel to the central axis of said collar and having clamp means formed on the extensions so as to engage the beaded edge of the container to maintain the flange of said disposable member in position around the beaded edge of said container. 7

2. A drinking device for use in connection with a liquid container which has a beaded edge surrounding the opening, comprising, in combination a collar member having a configuration and size to fit within the beaded edge of the container, a disposable member of a configuration and size to fit within said collar, a flange outwardly extending from said disposable member at the edge of the collar adjacent the beaded edge or" the container, a plurality of clamping means secured to the outside surface of the collar and each having a recess to receive the beaded edge of the container so that the collar may be tightly held against the inside of said beaded edge with the flange of the disposable means disposed therebetween.

A disposable drinking device comprising in combination with a liquid container opening having a beaded edge and a ledge adjacent the inner side of said beaded edge, a collar adapted to fit Within said beaded edge and in contact with said ledge, clamps on said collar adapted to engage said beaded edge and to maintain said collar in close connection with said ledge, a disposable drinking sleeve of the size and shape to fit within said collar and having an outwardly extending flange adapted to be received between said collar and said ledge so as to provide a liquid tight connection between said drinking sleeve and said container opening.

A disposable drinking device comprising in combination with a liquid container opening having a beaded edge and a ledge adjacent the inner side of said beaded edge, a collar adapted to fit Within said beaded edge and in contact with said ledge, clamps on said collar adapted to engage the outside of said beaded edge and to maintain said collar in close connection with said ledge, a water resistant paper drinking sleeve of a size and shape to fit within said collar and having an outwardly extending flange adapted to be received between said collar and said ledge so as to provide a liquid tight connection between said drinking sleeve and said container opening.
