1 Claiml This invention relates to new and useful imject of `the present invention is to provide :a .broom l holder including novel and improved means for clampingly supporting .a Abroom handlewrelative to the same in an elevated position from a oor surface.
Another important object of the present invention is to provide a broom holder including a fixed bearing portion and an adjustable and removable pivotal arm cooperating with said xed bearing portion to frictionally support a vbroom handle therebetween.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a broom holder that is small and compact in structure and which is quickly and readily manipulated in a convenient manner to apply a broom handle to the same or to remove a broom handle therefrom.
A still further aim of the present invention is to provide a broom holder that is simple and practical in construction, strong and reliable in use, neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the broom holder constructed in accordance with the present invention, and showing a broom handle supported by the same;
Figure 2 is a top'plan view of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 3-3 of Figure l;
Figure 4 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of the present broom holder taken substantially on the plane of section line 4 4 of Figure 2;
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the movable support member used in conjunction with the present invention; and
Figure 6 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 6 6 of Figure 5.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral I8 represents a substantially rectangular base plate having a plurality Vproivements in broom holders and the primary obof apertures I2 that receive suitable fasteners for removably securing the base plate relative to a :supporting structure such as a wall, a door or the inner panel of a cabinet. One end portion .of the base plate If) is turned outwardly ftoprovide an angular bearing strip Iii having a flared or arcuate outer end i6 which is adapted to frictionally engage a broom handle I8 facilitating the guiding or positioning of the broom handle I8 relative to the base plate I0 and against the bearing strip i4.
The free end portion of the base plate I0 is also turned inwardly to provide an angular strip 2G which is cut or slit as at 22 facilitating the upper portion of the strip 20 to be folded downwardly to provide a xed support plate 24.
The numeral 26 represents the substantially T-shaped movable support member used in conjunction with the present invention generally, including a longer leg 28 and outwardly extending side tabs or integral projections 38. These side tabs are turned inwardly toward each other to provide substantially opposed L-shaped retainer plates 3l that frictionally engage and embrace a substantially rectangular, resilient pad or bearing block 32 having a concaved outer end 33. The face end of the longer leg 28 is angulated to provide a reduced, substantially V-shaped attaching ear or offset inner end portion 34 that, frictionally engages a selected opening 36 provided in the xed support plate 24, for pivotal or hinged movement of the member 26 relative to the bearing strip I4. l
In practical use of the device, the movable support member 26 is raised or pivoted upwardly so that the broom handle I8 may be frictionally positioned against the bearing strip I4 and the base plate ID, as shown best in Figures 1 and 4 of the drawings. The movable support member 26- is then pivoted downwardly so that the pad 32 will frictionally engage the broom handle in a camlike action to force the broom handle against the bearing strip Ill and thus, the broom handle will be clampingly supported between the bearing strip I 4 and the movable support arm 26.
To accommodate broom handles of various diameters or thicknesses, there is provided a plurality of the aforementioned openings 36 in the iixed support plate 24, to selectively engage the reduced, angulated attaching ear 34.
In view of the foregoing description taken'in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art` more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed as new is:
A broom holder comprising an elongated base plate having rst and second vertically disposed lateral projections at the ends thereof, said second projection having an upper portion, the upper portion of said second projection being folded downwardly to provide a fixed horizontal support plate, said support plate having a plurality of spaced openings therein, an elongated and at arm having a substantially V-shaped offset inner end portion received in a selected one of the openings in said support plate for, swinging movement of said arm relative to said support plate and toward said first projection, side tabs at the free end of said arm, said side tabs having inwardly turned end portions underlying 4 the lower end of said arm, and a resilient block clamped against said arm by said tabs and the inwardly turned end portions of the tabs, said block having an end portion projecting outwardly from the free end of the arm and cooperating with the rst projection for clamping a broom handle to said base plate.
