Application June 2, 1948, Serial No. 30,641 (01. 2-224) 3 Claims.
5 1 The present invention is directed to ladies garments, more particularly to such garments as bloomers, panties, drawers and the like.
Garments of this type as usually produced,
have a disadvantage in that they are so cut as l to be rather uncomfortable to the wearer, particularly if the wearer is overweight. It is desirable that such a garment fit snugly under all 1 conditions, both when the wearer is sitting and is standing. In the usual garment as heretofore produced, if the cut thereof was sufficient to be of form-fitting character when the wearer was sitting, it was usually loosely fitting when the wearer was standing. On the other hand, if the garmentwas form-fitting when the wearer was l standing, then it was likely to be uncomfortable and to bind when the wearer was sitting.
In view of the above, it is among the objects of the present invention toprovide a garment of the type described which will be form-fitting, regardless of the position of the wearer.
It is also among the objectsof the present invention to provide a garment of the character described which will be comfortable to the wearer and fit snugly under all circumstances.
In practicing the present invention, the various elements constitutingthe garments are cut in anovel manner and then assembled as by stitching, in order to give the desired results. Generally there are five pieces which are assembled to formthe garment. First, there is a relatively small back member elongated in formandhaving convex sides with an invertedV-shaped notch at the lower end thereof. Adjacent thereto are portion depending therefrom and a pair of panels of relatively small size is provided to cooperate with said extending portions. .One side of each panel is attached to such portion below the front centerline. The lower part of each panel is attached to the adjacent side'of the notch of the back member. The upper side of said panels are secured together and all of the elements are attached in their relative positions to provide the completed garment.
In the accompanying drawing constituting a part hereof, and in which like reference characters indicate like parts,
Fig. 1 is a plan view showing the several elements for said garment in their proper relative positions for sewing together;
Fig. 2 is a front view of the completed garment, and
Fig. 3 is a rear view thereof. The back member I has an upper edge 2 which .quickly and economically.
forms part of the waistband of the garment. Sides 3 and 3 thereof are somewhat convex and the relatively deep notch of inverted V-shape is formed at the lower end thereof. The sides 4 and 4 of said notch are usually slightly con-- cave.
-A pair of side members 5 and 5' have upper. edges 6 and 6 completing the waistband portion of the garment. Edges l and 1 thereof are concave and are complementary to the adjacent edges 3 and 3', respectively, of back 1. Depending from sides 5 and 5 are leg portions 8 and 8. Opposite to edges 7 and l are straight edges 8 and 9' constituting vertical front center-line members which are stitched together to form the front of the garment. Diagonally downward extensions Ill and Ill below c'enterlines 9 and 9" are provided with slightly curved lower edges H and H and'edges 1'2 and i2 adapted to be stitched to edges 8 and 8', respectively.
A pair of relatively small panels 13 and I3 have lower edges l4 and, 14', which areconcavoconvex and are adapted to be stitched into sides r wardly and edges l2-I4 are stitched to edges 8-4 andedges l2'--l4 are stitched to edges 8'-4'. tacting edges l5l5 with edges l5"l6' and the body of the garment thus completed. Other elements such as waistband, bindings and the like as is usual in such constructions are provided.
A garment made in accordance with the present invention has the very important advantage that the same fits snugly on the body of the wearer with suflicient material so as to allow some fullness when the wearer is standing but in such a position that it is not apparent. Then when the wearer is sitting, such fullness is taken up and the garment fits snugly and comfortably under all conditions. The various elements constituting the garment may be cut economically from the piece goods with very little wastage. There are but few curvatures in the individual members of the garment so that the work of cutting is relatively simple and may be done Although the invention has been described setting forth a single embodiment thereof, the invention is not limited thereto but many varia- Thepanels are sewn together by contions in the details of construction may be made within the principles herein set forth. For instance, the curvatures of the meeting parts may be considerably varied in accordance with the desired design. The relative sizes and shapes of the cooperating members may be changed to a considerable degree while retaining the essential elements of the invention. The fabric may be cut on the bias in the several members so as to give additional flexibility and closeness of fit.
These and other changes in the details of the invention may be made within the spirit thereof and the invention is therefore to be broadly construed and not to be limited except by the character of the claims appended hereto.
I claim:

a pair of substantially triangular crotch form-- ing panels, each panel having a substantially straight edge paralleling and attached to the said diagonal extension, the lower portion of the substantially triangular panel having a reverse curve and being attached to the adjacent side of said notch, the upper edge of the panel having a concave curvature terminating in an upwardly extending apex between the concave upper edge and the reversely curved lower edge, the upper concave edge of the said substantially triangular panels being secured together along a straight line culminating at one end in the apices which fit into the V-shaped notch.
2. A ladies undergarment comprising a back member having convex sides and an inverted V-shaped notch at the lower end, a pair of side members, each of which has a concave side complementary and attached to said convex side and a vertical side constituting the front centerline of said garment, a diagonal extension on each side member below said front centerline,
4 triangular panel having a reverse curve and being attached to the adjacent side of said notch, the upper edge of the panel having a concave curvature terminating in an upwardly extending apex between the concave upper edge and the reversely curved lower edge, the upper concave edge of the said substantially triangular panels being secured together along a straight line culminating at one end in the apices which fit into the V-shaped notch, leg portions integral With and extending downwardly from said side members, the side edges of each leg portion being stitched together.
7 3. A ladies undergarment comprising a back member having convex sides and an inverted V-shaped notch at the lower end, a pair of side members, each of which has a concave side complementary and attached to said convex side and a vertical side constituting the front centerline of said garment, a diagonal extension on each side member below said front centerline, said vertical sides being secured together, a pair of substantially triangular crotch forming panels, each panel having a substantially straight edge paralleling and attached to the said diagonal extension, the lower portion of the substantially triangular panel having a reverse curve and being attached to the adjacent side of said notch, the upper edge of the panel having a concave curvature terminating in an upwardly extending apex between the concave upper edge and the reversely curved lower edge, the upper concave edge of the said substantially triangular panels being secured together along a straight line culminating at one end in the apices which fit into the V-shaped notch, leg portions integral with and extending downwardly from said side members, the side edges of each leg portion being stitched together, the lower edge of said side members being curved slightly downward at that part of said side members which is below said diagonal extensions.
