Apri 3, s N PINCUSHION AND IMPLEMENT HOLDER Original Filed Jan. 2, 1947 INVENTOIQ. Hnne Saran, BY czceasea.
Patented Apr. 3, 1951 PINCUSHION AND IMPLEMENT HOLDER Anne Siren, deceased, late of Haverford, Pa., by
Layha Siren Geist administratrix, Haverford,
Substituted for abandoned application Serial N 0. 719,684, January 2, 1947. This application April 30, 1948, Serial No. 24,360
2 Claims. (Cl. 223108) This invention relates to pin cushions and particularly to a, pin cushion adapted to be supported on a spool, and this application is a substitute for application Serial No. 719,684, filed January 2, 1947, in the name of Anne Siren and now abandoned.
The invention has for its salient object to provide a simple and practical construction of pin cushions so worked out that the cushion can be supported on a spool or separately from the spool.
Another object of the invention is to provide a pin cushion of the character described, so constructed that a thimble can be supported on the cushion.
Further objects of the invention will appear from the following specification taken in connection with thedrawings which form a part of this application, and in which Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a pin cushion and spool constructed in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional elevation through the cushion and spool; and
Fig. 3 is an elevational view of the pin cushion and of the base adapted to be used therewith, either in conjunction with or separate from the spool.
In the particular embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing, there is shown a spool In having flanges II and 12' at the ends thereof and a cylindrical or tubular spindle I3 between the flanges or heads I I and I2.
The pin cushion I4 is dome shaped and has a central opening I 5 in which is mounted a tube [9 sufliciently long to extend through the spool flange or head I 2 when the pin cushion is mounted on the other flange or head H.
The pin cushion [4 has an undercut recess I 6 extending thereinto from the outer surface thereof and adapted to receive a thimble H.
The tube [9 may be closed at its ends by a plug 20 or, if desired, the pin cushion may be supported on a base 2| shown in Fig. 3 and having a tube 22 adapted to fit within the tube l9.
Pins 25 may be supported in the pin cushion I4 and needles 26 may be stored in the tube 19, as shown in Fig. 2. As above stated, the pin cushion may be mounted on a spool 01', if desired,
2 may be supported on the base 2| when the tube 22 is inserted in the tube I9.
Although one specific embodiment of the invention has been particularly shown and described it will be understood that the invention is capable of modification and that changes in the construction and in the arrangement of the various cooperating parts may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention, as expressed in the following claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A pin and needle holder for use with a spool comprising a cushion having a central opening, a tube secured in said opening and adapted to extend into the spool opening, said cushion having an undercut recess extending thereinto communicating with the central opening and adapted to receive a thimble, and means for closing the end of the cushion tube remote from the cushion.
2. A pin and needle holder comprising a dome shaped cushion having a central opening, a tube secured in said opening, and means for closing the end of the opening remote from the cushion, said means comprising a disk and a tube secured thereto and adapted to fit in the cushion tube, said cushion having an undercut recess extending thereinto communicating with the central opening and adapted to receive a thimble.
