This invention relates to an extendible table combined with a kitchen cabinet.

An object of this invention is to provide in combination with a pair of doors forming part of a kitchen cabinet, a pair of table top members which are xed to the upper ends of the doors so that when the doors are closed the top members will be in retracted or inoperative position, and when the doors are open the top members will be in extended or operative position.

Another object of this invention is to provide a combination table' and cabinet wherein the cabinet is formed with a narrow compartment beneath the top thereof within which the extendible top is adapted to be positioned when in retracted position.

A further object of this invention is to provide an extendible table in a cabinet which will not interfere with the normal use of the cabinet.

To the foregoing objects, and others which may hereinafter more fully appear, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more specilically referred to and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, but it is to be understood that changes, variations, and modifications may be resorted to which fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

Figure 1 is a detailed front elevation of a combined cabinet and table constructed according to an embodiment of this invention.

Figure 3 is a .plan view, partly broken away and in section, showing the table in extended position.

Referring to kthe drawings, the numeral I designates generally a cabinet which is vformed of a base II having secured thereto a top I2. The base i I includes upright end walls I 3 and at least a pair of intermediate upright Walls I4. Outer hinged doors I are carried by the front of the cabinet and upper drawers I6 are disposed above the outer doors I5. A pair of intermediate doors l1 and I8 are positioned between the outer doors I5 being hingedly mounted as at I9 on a vertical support 20.

An inner horizontal wall ZI is disposed 1in spaced relation with respect to the top wall I2 and provides a space 22 within which the extendible table members are adapted to be positioned when in retracted position. The door I1 has fixed to the upper end thereof a table member 23 and the door IB has fixed to the upper end thereof a complementary table member 24.

The table member 22 is 'xed to the door Il by means of an angle member 24 which is countersunk as indicated at 26 in the lower side of the table member 23 and is also countersunk as at" 21 in the rear side of the door I1. The table member 24 is fixed to the door I8 by means of an angle member 28 which is countersunk as indicated at 29'in the lower side of the table member 24 and is also countersunk as indicated at 30 lin the rear side of the door I8. The inner end of the table member 23 is cut out as indicated at 3i and the inner end of the table member 24 is cut out as indicated at 32. These cutouts in the table mmbers 23 and 24 are provided so that when the table members are in extended position the inner edges thereof will rest on the outer edge of the inner horizontal wall 2|. In this manner when the table members 23 and 24 are swung outwardly to extended position by opening of the doors I1 and I8, the table members will be partly supported from the opened doors and will also be partly supported from the inner wall 2|.

In the use and operation of this device, when the doors Il and I8 are in closed position, the table members 23 will be positioned within the space or chamber 22 formed between the top I2 and the inner wall 2l. When it is desired to use the table, either one or both of the doors I'I and I8 may be swung outwardly to extended position. The operative extended positions of the table members is shown in full lines in Figure 3.

The doors I'I and I 8 may be latched in their open position or, if desired, suitable latching means may be provided for the adjacent abutting edges of the table members.

With a structure as hereinbefore described, the doors I1 and IB will normally close a compartment 33 within which stools 34 may be positioned. When the doors II and I8 are opened the stools 34 may be removed from the compartment 33 and positioned in the desired relation with respect to the table members 23 and 24.

This structure will provide a very compact cab- 3 inet and table so that a limited kitchen space may provide either a working table or breakfast table.

I claim:

A combined cabinet and extensible table comprising a base, a horizontally disposed top carried by said base, a horizontally disposed wall spaced downwardly from said top to provide a space therebetween, a vertical column disposed centrally at the front of said base, a door disposed on opposite sides of said column, hinge means hingedly securing the adjacent inner edges of said doors to said column for outward swinging toward each other to open position, a pair of oppositely disposed table members slidably disposed upon the top surface of said horizontal wall, each of said table members being formed with right angularly related straight forward and side edges, the other side edge of each being arcuate to permit free movement thereof, means securing a forward edge of each of said table members to the upper end of each of said doors, the straight side edge of each table member being provided with a cut-away portion adjacent each forward edge and extending beyond the inner edge of the door to which it is secured so that the table members will be disposed completely within said space between said topand said horizontal wall when said doors are closed and will be extended to operative position when said doors are swung outwardly to open position with the straight side edges of said table members being forward on the outer edge of said horizontal walls and the front edges thereof positioned in abutting relation.
