:from'beams and to provide a device of this character which is adjustable to beams of different 7 sizes.
I attain these and other objects of my invention by the means illustrated in the accompanyin drawings in which-- Figure l is a perspective view of the hanger attached to an I-beam, the extended position of one of the clamp sections being shown by dotted lines;
Fig. 2 is a perspective end View otthe device;
Fig. 3; is an enlarged sectional viewtransversely of thelhanger, with the pipe which it supports being hown in section;
Fig-Ais an end elevation of the device with an outlet box supported from the hanger; v
Fig. 5. is an edge elevation 011; the hanger clamps engaging spaced I-beams and carrying a metal plate to which separate hanger elements may be fastened;
Fig. 6 is a sectional view of a modification of the invention attached to an L-beam; and
Fig. 7 is a perspective view of the same modified form.
Fig. 8 is a perspective view of another modification of the invention, the dotted lines indicating how element 1' will be folded to engage the I-beam;' and Fig. 9 is an edge elevation of the form shown in Fig. 8, the I-beam which it engages and the pipes which are carried by the hangers being shown in section.
Like numerals designate like parts ineach of the several views.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, I provide a U-shaped clamp l adapted to engage the flange of an I-beam A angl having spaced I i in its extended base 3. Welded: to the base 3 is a plate llgiaving U-shaped edge portions within which the. extended base 6 of an adjustable clamp I is slidably mounted. Clamp 'l engages the opposite member of the I- beam A, as shown in Fig. 1. The base extension plateli has a series of threadedj'apertures 8 which maybe brought into alignment'with the apertures 2. of base plate 3 andenglaged by a screw 9 which functions to hold the two clamp sections in a fixed adjusted position relative to each other and also to support a pipe hanger 10, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 6 of the drawings.
Referring to Fig. 4, a difierent fitting such as the outlet box ll may be fastened to the hanger by a screw 9.
klpplication October a, 1947, Serial No. 780,052 realms. (91. 248-72) As shown in Fig. 5, hangers may be fastened to spaced I-beams A and may, in turn, support a bar l2 to which a series of hangers l3 are fastened by the screws l4.
Referring to Figs 6 and 7, there is shown a modification of the invention in which a clamp section l5 replaces the clamp section 1 and is of suitable shape to engage an L-shaped beam B, to support suitable fittings, such as pipe hanger II) or outlet box H or other fitting.
The operation of the device will be apparent from the accompanying drawings. One of the clamp elements 1 is slidably mounted in the U- shaped edges 5 of the plate 4 which is welded to the base 3 of the cooperating clamp element so that the device may be readily adjusted to different widths and sizes of I-beams. A screw 9, which fastens the hanger l0 to the clamp elements, also functions to hold the clamp elements in a fixed relation to each other and secured to the base of the I-beam, as shown. The screw 9 may also be used to fasten other fittings than a pipe hanger to the clamp elements, such as the outlet box ll, shown in Fig. 4, or the metal bar l2, show-n in Fig. 5. The metal bar l2 may carry a series of pipe hangers l3 for supporting a pipe in the manner illustrated.
Referring to Figs. 9 and 10, I mayprovide a modification of my invention for use as a channel iron hanger, and comprising an L-shaped clamp I having spaced openings 2' which are threaded, and a second L-shaped clamp 1 also having openings 8', the extended end I being bendable to engage the channel iron, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 9, and in full lines in Fig. 10. Welded to the L-shaped clamp I is a plate 5 having U- shaped edge portions 3', and also having a series of apertures 8". The device includes a bolt or bolts 9' to permit of adjustment of the device to adapt it to varioussizes of channel irons.
Clamp I has op nings for a bolt, in vertical section, and threaded openings in lateral section. Welded to I is plate 5 also having corresponding threaded openings for bolt 9'. Sliding in U-shaped edges is clamp I", with corresponding openings.
Clamp 1' has openings for bolts 9, the upper flange being extended to bend around a flange of the channel iron member, in use.
What I claim is:
1. A hanger for pipes and other fittings, comprising opposite clamp elements engageable to the flanges of an I-beam, one of the clamp elements being welded to a plate having U-shaped edges within which the other clamp element is slidably mounted, each of the clamp elements having spaced openings to receive a screw, a screw engaging in one of said openings and in a fixed relation holding the clamp sections in fixed relation to each other, and a fitting such as a pipe hanger carried by said screw.
2. A support comprising a plurality of spaced opposed pairs of clamp elements for engaging the flanges of a plurality of structural beams one of the clamping elements of each pair being welded to a plate having inturned edges within which the other clamping element of each pair is adjustably mounted, a plurality of apertures in said plate and said adjustable clamp element, fastening means extending through 'two of said aperfastening means whereby a plurality of hanger tures to secure said clamp elements in adjusted 1 position, a bar for supporting and spacing said pairs, of clamp elements secured thereto by said fastening means, a plurality of spaced hanger members secured to said bar and a hanger memher-secured:t0-eachpair ore-lam elements by said; fastening means whereby a plurality of hanger members may be installed simultaneously.
3. A support comprising a plurality of spaced opposed-pairs of clampvelements for engaging the members may be installed simultaneously.
