This invention relates to a collar and tie device.

One chief object of the present invention is to provide means which when applied will hold down shirt collar tips, hold the collar tips taut and straight, hold the tie up against the neckband of the shirt and prevent lateral slippage of the tie knot.

Another chief object of the present invention is to provide means for the accomplishment of the foregoing which requiresno special fabrication of or formation in the shirt.

A further object of the present invention is to provide means which will not tear the tie in its repeated use with said means.

The chief feature of the present invention resides in the unitary element utilized, two being applied to a shirt, which two elements cooperate together and with the shirt and tie to accomplish the aforesaid objectives.

Other objects and features of the invention will be setforth more fully hereinafter.

The full nature of the invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claims.

In the drawing, Fig. l is a front elevation of the collar and front portion of the shirt immediately contiguous thereto and of a tied tie of the four-in-hand type and with the invention applied thereto, parts being broken away to show other parts in detail.

Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the unitary element embodied in the invention.

The invention proper is shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings wherein I is the shank or stem and Illa is the free end thereof which is preferably not sharpened. A substantially rigid L-shaped portion is provided for the purpose of accommodating and receiving in one loop formed thereby the tie of the user. This loop is defined by a curved arm I! angularly disposed upwardly in off set relation to the shank and by the portion i2 which is curled inwardly and downwardly to a point in proximity to said shank. Said substantially L-shaped portion is connected to the opposite end of the shank by the return bend portion 3. The free end l2a of said L-shaped portion is in the form of an outward return bend which terminates immediately contiguous to said arm H at its juncture with curled portion I2. The portions H], H, I2 and I3 form a tie accommodating loop in order to permit ready application of the tie to the loop together with removal therefrom in a ready and easy manner to reduce wear upon the tie. In order to facilitate positioning of the tie within the loop the bend I3 is of yielding character.

Reference will now be had to Fig. 1 wherein l4 and I5 indicateshirt front portions that may be buttoned together as at I6. These portions terminate at the upper portions in the shirt band IT to which the collar 18 is secured,

The collar includes the tips l9. Collars may be of double face type or be single face with an inturned hem. In either instance sewings 20--2l are provided. This is conventional shirt formation regardless of collar height,- length of tip or inclination of the collar forward edge 22.

The invention, to accomplish the purposes aforesaid, utilizes two identical elements as previously described. Each has its shank end Illa. applied to the underside of the collar immediately contiguous to its connection to the band I! and the collar edge 22. The end penetrates the con-, cealed 01' back layer of the collar at 23 and the shank is extended downwardly between the layers and between edge 22 and sewing 20. It is thus disposed parallel to the edge 22.

When so disposed the element will hold the collar relatively stiff and straight at its edge 22. When the shirt is worn and two such elements are applied to the collar with the L-shaped portions directed towards the body of the shirt, the tie 25 may be passed between collar and band and the tie ends then can be readily passed upwardly into the tie loops.

Thus the elements are stabilized in position to hold down the collar tips. Also since the tie is trapped in the so-called loops it cannot slip down on the shirt. The tie may be tied in any knot form and herein 26 indicates the knot thereof and 21 the ends. When the tie is tied obviously the loops l [-12 prevent the knot from either slipping down and exposing band button 30 or slipping laterally.

It will be apparent that two of these singular elements which are identical can be easily applied to and detached from substantially all shirts and when applied cooperate with the collar, the tie and each other to accomplish the four-fold objective.

While the invention has been illustrated and described in great detail in the drawings and foregoing description, the same is to be considered as illustrative and not restrictive in character.

The invention claimed is:

1. A collar and tie device for locating a tie knot comprising a pair of unitary members, each member being adapted to be attached to the opposed edges of the tips of acollar, each member comprising an elongated shank of substantially rigid character having a return bend portion formed at one end thereof, an upwardly and inwardly directed resilient arm of appreciably shorter length than said shank connected at one end to said return bend portion, the other end of said arm terminating in a downwardly and outwardly directed loop having a portion abutting said shank, said loops serving to locate a tie knot and to retain it against lateral movej t-iv a. r\ z;.-:. im r 2.
