Application May 26, 1948, Serial No. 29,219
1 3 Claims.
This invention relates to a fluid cosmetic applicator and concerns itself with a collapsible container having a rouge applicating element at one end which has communication with the container and which is normally covered by a hood or cap and which may be housed in a casing having means upon the exterior thereof for compressing the container.
It is an object of this invention to provide such a rouge applicator which can be cheaply made and which can handle fluid or viscous rouge of any viscosity in a simple manner.
It is a further object of this invention to provide mechanical means for compressing the container for feeding rouge to an applicating element.
According to this invention, there is provided a collapsible tube or container having a rouge applicating element removably mounted upon one end, which applicating element is provided with feed ducts or the like for exuding viscous rouge which may be forced from the tube by a mechanical actuator or the like.
The invention comprises the novel structure and combination of parts hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out and defined in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing which illustrates a preferred form of this invention and in which similar reference numerals refer to similar features in the different views:
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of a collapsible tube which constitutes a co-operative element of my invention,
Fig, 2 is an elevational view of an applicating member involving this invention,
Fig. 3 is an elevational and broken away view of a hood or cap for attachment to the applicating member,
Fig. 4 is an elevational and broken away view of a modified form of applicating member,
Fig. 5 is an elevational view of the applicator in assembled relation involving this invention,
Fig. 6 is a sectional view with parts in elevation of the container mounted in a casing, and
Fig. 7 is a sectional view taken upon the line 1-7 of Fig. 6.
In referring now to the drawing, there is shown a collapsible tube 6 which may be made of any suitable material. This tube is closed at its bottom and its upper end which is conical as indicated has a threaded neck I upon which is threaded an applicating element 8. This element 8 has an interior bore 9 in threaded relation with the neck I and exterior threads I0 upon its 2 lower portion upon which a cap or hood Il may be threaded.
The threaded bore 5 of the applicating element 8 merges into a cylindrical chamber thereabove as indicated at I2. This chamber I2 converges at its top as indicated at I3 and this converging portion communicates with a suitable outlet port I4 in the top of the applicating element which is provided with a rounded or bevelled tip I5 adapted to serve as the contact portion for the lips.
The cap or hood I I is provided with an interior chamber or cavity I6 of such size and design as to fit over the applicating element and the lower portion of the chamber is threaded to fit the threads IE) on the applicating element. The threads on the cap are indicated by the numeral I1 in Fig. 3 and they may be so extended as to have the caps apex close the port I4 in the applicating element.
In Fig. 4, there is shown a modified form of applicating element I8 which is externally threaded at its lower end as indicated at II] for threaded relation with the cap II and which is internally threaded as indicated at 9 for threaded relation with the neck I as in the first form. The bore 9 merges into a chamber I2 having an upper converging wall as indicated at I3 for receiving viscous rouge and this chamber I2 communicates with the interior top portion of the element thru a slot I9 which can convey rougeto a larger exterior surface. In this modified form, the contact surface 2!] upon the top of the applicating element is also rounded or bevelled, but it has a larger radius or extent than the contact surface I5 of the first form.
It may be desirable to carry such an applicator in a casing and compress the tube in the casing; such a construction is shown in Figs. 6 and '7 and in referring to these figures, it will be observed that a casing 2i surrounds the collapsible tube 6. The upper end of this casing is provided with a flange or lip 22 which fits over the upper conical portion 23 of the tube. The casing is provided with a rectilinear slot 24 extending from the bottom to a point adjacent the top. The
lower end of the casing has a removable cap 25 which has a reduced neck 26 which has a drive fit in the casing.
' A slide 2'! is slidably mounted in the slot 24. This slide has an exterior handle 23 which is carried by an upper shank 29 which fits in the slot 24 and an interior container compressing or rolling portion 30. In order to prevent cantin of the handle and slide, the handle has an in- 3 wardly extending guide portion 33 at its lower end which has a sliding fit in the slot 24. The container compressing portion 30 of the slide may be of any suitable form; in the present instance, it is shown as depending from the inner part of the shank 29 and its periphery is of arouate form as indicated at 3! and it is rounded or bevelled at its upper inner corner as indicated at 32 to provide a wedging action when it is elevated.
It will be noted that the interior portion of the slide co-operates with the handle to form guide grooves for the edges of the slot for maintaining the slide in position and that the portion 30 is designed to engage beneath a portion of the collapsible tube with the result that when the slide is elevated in the slot, rouge will be forced from the tube and against the applicating element carried by the tube.
In using the form of applicator first described, it is only necessary to remove the cap H and squeeze the tube for forcing the desired quantity of rouge thru the discharge port or ports; then by rubbing the contact portion of the applicator over the lips, the rouge can be properly applied. In using the second form, the slide will be operated for discharging the rouge, otherwise it functions as the first form.
I am aware that many changes may be made and various details of construction may be modified without departing from the principles of this invention so I do not propose limiting the patent granted otherwise than necessitated by the appended claims.
I claim:
l. In a rouge applicator, a casing having an open upper end with an inwardly directed retaining lip and a removable cap at its lower end, said casing having a vertical slot in its wall, a collapsible container mounted in said casing and having a portion abutting said lip and a neck portion extending above said lip, and a slidable container compressor having a bevelled portion engaging said container, a reduced shank portion in said slot, said shank portion terminating in a downwardly extending handle outside of said casing and said handle portion terminating in an inwardly directed guide portion extending thru said slot for maintaining said slide against canting during its operative movement.
2. In a lip rouge applicator, a cylindrical casing having an open upper end with an inturned lip and a removable cap at its lower end, a collapsible tube in said casing with its upper end abutting said lip, said casing having a vertical slot in its wall, a tube compressor having a reduced shank in said slot, at downwardly extending bevelled tube engaging on said shank within said casing and a downwardly extending handle on said shank outside said casing, said handle terminating at its lower end in a guide portion extending into said slot for the purpose set forth.
3. In a lip rouge applicator, a cylindrical casing, a collapsible tube in said casing, said casing having a vertical slot, a tube compressor having a shank extending thru said slot, said shank having 3, depending bevelled portion within said casing for engaging said tube and a depending handle portion outside of said casing, said handle portion terminating in an inwardly directed guide portion extending thru said slot for preventing canting of said compressor during its operative movements.
