Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFF CE,
ADAM LOEFFELHOLZ, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
CAR-S EAT LOCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters. Patent No; 254,226, dated February 28, 1882, Application filed November 22, 1881. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADAM LOEFFELHOLZ, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, and in the State ofWisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Oar-Seat-BackLocks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to car-seat-back locks, and will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawings, Figure l is a broken section of a seat'arm with lock detached. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section of the same with lock attached. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the inside of my improved lock, and Fig. 4 is a detail.
A is the seat-arm, cast with a countersink, c, and circular opening B.
F E is the shell of the lock, having a circular stepped opening to receive the cam-disk H, on the outside ofwhich is cast a hub, G, having a circular aperture in its center for the shank of the key, and slots for the bits of the key. On its reverse side the disk H has cam-projections d d, that abut against the rear end of base-plate L.
Just in front of the opening that receives disk H,'I provide the shell E F with guides J, rounded on their outside and fiat on their faces, and having grooves in' their bases to receive the sides of the base-plate L of bolt D; and a slight projection, l, on base-plate L, behind the Y I bolt D, acting upon the faces of the guides J,
serves to prevent the bolt D from binding as it slides between the guides. The base-plate is retracted by the spring I), secured to posts 0 0. After all the parts are in place the shell may be secured to the arm by a couple of screws, a a.
In putting my locks together and attaching them to their arms no fitting is necessary that requires skill or the use of any other tool than a screw-driver. I first place the base-plate L upon the base of shell E, and slide it into the grooves in guides J far enough to carry its rear shoulders up against the guides. I then insert plate H, and catch the spring I) over posts 0 c. The spring will draw the plateLback against the cams (1 cl and beneath the disk H, and the lockrwill be ready for the market. Its operation is very simple.- When the disk H is turned one of its cams will force the base-plate L and bolt D forward, and when the key is withdrawn the spring :1 will retract it. The guides J, fitting snugly in aperture B, serve to strengthen the hold of the lock upon the arm.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a car-seat lock, the combination of the seat-arm, having aperture'B and countersink c, with the shell E F, cam-disk H G d d, and the bolt D, its base-plate, and a retractingspring, asset forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 14th day of November, 1881.
ADAM LOEFFELHOLZ.
