7 This invention relates for Venetian blinds and','more particularly, to a machine for washing or cleaning Venetian blinds of different widths and lengths.
The object of this invention is to provide a machine in which one or more Venetian blinds to a washing machine a machine with an improved mechanism by means Fig. 2 is a side view of said machine, with parts thereof broken away to show its construction,
Fig. 3 is an end view of said machine with parts in its raised position. s 25 broken away and showing the dipping mechanism Fig. 4 is a similar view showing the said mechanism in a'partl-y lowered position.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged side view, in central vertical section, of a portion of the end of said machine. 1
Fig. 6 is an enlarged view of the said machine in vertical section.
' Fig. '7 is a front view are portion of said machine with parts thereof shown in central vertical section.
--;In the embodiment illustrated in the drawings, a machine embodying my invention may comprise a tank 5 to contain a suitable liquid clean ng solution, preferably to a level indicated at 6. The dipping mechanism provided by my invention may include sup-ports 11 which are preferably tubular in form and of which there is one mounted at each end of the machine by means of suitable brackets 8.
- Each of said supports has a carrier member 8-9 slidably positioned therein and preferably provided with a yoke ID at the top thereof to receive a supporting bar ll of a rack l2 comprising a pair of parallel bars I3-i3 which are In order to provide for vertical reciprocal move-P;
ment of the said rack [2 there is includedffor each slide member 9, a suitable mechanism comprising a crank l5 which is mounted on a crank shaft 16 that rotates in a hearing I! and is driven by a suitable pulley or sprocket 18 by means of a belt or chain l9 which in turn is driven from a drive shaft 20 that is operated by suitable power means, such as an electric motor 2|. The shaft 20 extends to the opposite ends of the machine and drive a similar reciprocating mechanism at both ends so as to move the rack I 2 up and down, into both in its raised position and its lowered position which is indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2. 2 As illustrated in Figs. 6 and 7, my inventio provides hangers 22, each of which comprises a pair of parallel bars 23 and 24 which are secured to a pair of vertically extended hook bars 25-25, each having a hook portion 26 that is adapted to receive the top bar iii of the rack I2 for supporting the hanger on the rack. A pair of angle bars 2'l2'i are secured to the parallel bars 23: and 24, and to a tie bar 28, and are spaced apart to receive, between them, a supporting bar 29 which carries a Venetian blind supporting rack that is constructed of a pair of angle bars 3il-30 secured at opposite sides of said bar 29 and hav-.- ing supporting bars 3l--3I at the opposite ends thereof. The said supporting bars 3l3l have a hook portion 32, at each end thereof, to receive the top and bottom bars 33 and 34 of a Venetian blind, as indicated at 35, which, as shown in Fig. 6, is hung on said bars 3 l-3 I.
A positioning bar 35 is provided at the end of a shaft 31 which telescopes into the supporting bar 29 and is adjustable therein by means of a suitable adjusting screw 38.
The said supporting bar 29 is provided with a boss 39 havin a hole extending transversely therethrough, and the angle bars 2121 are provided witha series of openings 40 which register. with the hole in the boss 39 so that a supporting pinM may be inserted through said openings 40.
and the hole in said bo s for adjustably mounting the bar 29 on the hangers 2 2,, The said supporting bar 29 is provided, at the bottom thereof, with an elongated inverted agie tator cup 42 for the purpose to be hereinafter described.
The hanger. 22 is retained onthe rack 12 by means of retaining clips 43 which are secured to the bar 24 of the hanger and engage the lower bar l3 of the rack. The said hanger is secured against lateral movement on said rack by means of clamping screws 4444 which extend through the bar 23 and the vertical bars 25--25 and are threaded thereto so that they may be turned against the bar 33 and thereby clamp the hanger in position.
As illustrated in Fig. 5 of the drawings, it will be noted that the bottoms of the support members 7-1 are each provided with a cap 45 and a spring member 46 is mounted within each memher 1, between the cap .45 and the top of the sliding member 9, to urge each sliding member 9 upwardly and thereby apply a lifting action to the rack 12 to counterbalance the weight of the Venetian blinds thereon, and provide for-smoother operation of the driving mechanism of the machine.
In the operation of my improved washing ma chine, the Venetian blinds are first mounted upon the supporting bars 3l-3i of the hanger racks by inserting the upper and lower bars 33 and 34 of each iiienetian blind in the hook portions The positioning car 36 is then adjusted in the supporting her :29 to retain the Venetian blind inposition bytengagi-ng the middle of \the :blind itO .hold it downwardly so that the blind will not float upwardly when submerged into sthe liquid which .is contained within the tank :5.
I-he supporting bar e, with the Venetian blind hung thereon, is then placed'between the bars 2 1-421 of the hanger 2.2 and the supporting pin 41 is inserted, through holes M], and the hole in the'boss 39, to support the Venetian blind at the desired plane within the tank 5. It will be noted that a handle 38 is provided on the bar 29 to facilitate handling it while placing it onto the hanger orremoving it therefrom.
After the Venetian blinds which are to be washed are hung on the rack 12, the machine is operated by energizing the motor 2|. This will cause motionof'the cranks r5715 which, through their respective connecting. rods iii-a, will apply :a reciprocal vertical movement to "the slide carrier .membersfie-ii and the rack :i:2,.and there.- by cause thevenetian blinds to be dipped up and down 5in the liquid solutionwithin the tank 5.
the" machine by simply pulling out the pin lland lifting :thebar 29 from the hanger.
