This invention relates to new and useful improvements and structural refinements in holders for flower pots, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device of the charac ter herein described whereby a flower pot may be conveniently and effectively supported on a window sill. I
The primary feature of the invention resides in the provision of means for adjusting the holder so as to accommodate window sills of different depths and also, so as to support the-flower pot at different distances from the window. 7
Some of the advantages of the invention reside in its simplicity of construction, in its convenient and dependable operation, in its pleasing appearance, and in its adaptability to economical manufacture.
With the above more important objects and features in view and such other objects and features as may become apparent as this specification proceeds, the invention consists essentially in the arrangement and construction of parts as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention applied to a window sill;
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional detail, taken substantially in the plane of the line 2-2 in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a sectional detail, taken substantially in the plane of the line 3-3 in Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a group perspective view illustrat' ing some of the components of the invention;
Figure 5 is a perspective view of a modifled embodiment of the invention;
Figure 6 is a longitudinal sectional view taken substantially in the plane of the line 6-6 in Figure 5;
Figure '7 is a transverse sectional view, taken substantially in the plane of the line,l1 in Figure 5; and
Figure 8 is a group perspective view of the modified holder shown in Figures 5-7.
Like characters of reference are employed to designate like parts in the specification and throughout the several views.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, more particularly to Figures 1-4 thereof, the invention consists of a flower pot holder designated generally by the reference character Hi, the sam embodying in its construction an angle bracket [2 having abottom portion 14' provided with an aperture l6 whereby the bracket may be secured to a window sill ill by a suitable fastening element or screw 20, while an upstand- 5 Claims. (01. Z48-208) ing portion 22 of the bracket is provided with vertical rows of transverse openings o slots 24, 26 as is best shown in Figure 4.
The bracket I2 is so positioned that the usual window sash 23 may slide downwardly to the sill 18 without the bracket interfering therewith and a vertically ad ustable keeper 3!) is removably positioned on the bracket [2, the keeper 30 in; cluding a transverse bar 32 which is positioned between the upstanding portion 22 of the bracket and the window sash 28 and is provided with a plurality of angulated detents 34 for selective reception in the slots 24, whereby vertical adjustability of the keeper 30 on the bracket I 2 is facilitated.
The keeper 30 also includes a pair of end flanges 35 which extend around to the relatively opposite side or surface of the bracket portion 22, but are spaced therefrom sufficiently to accommodate an upstanding flange 38 provided at one end of a flower pot support designated generally by the reference character 4!]. This support simply assumes the form of a horizontallyidisposed arm provided with a longitudinal, polygonal bore 42 to telescopically receive an extension 44 which, in turn, is equipped with an annulus 46 to supportably receive a flower pot 48, it being apparent from the foregoing that by simply sliding the extension 44 in the bore 42, the distance of the flower pot supported by the annulus 46 from the window sill may be varied as desired.
The bottom surface 50 of the support'arm 40 is intended to rest upon the sill member 52 so as to properly carry the weight of the flower pot, and it is to be noted that as long as the flange 38 of the support arm is embraced by the flanges 36 of the keeper 38; the detents 34 of the keeper are retained in the notches 24, thus maintaining the keeper in a predetermined position relative to the bracket l2. However, the device may be adjusted so as to accommodate 'difierent types and sizes of window sills by simply separating the flange 38 from the flanges 3B and disengaging the detents 34 from the slots 24, whereupon the keeper 35 may be adiusted vertically on the upstanding portion 22 of the bracket l2.
The modified embodiment of the invention illustrated in the accompanying Figures 5-8, in-
clusive, is designated generally by the reference character 68 and embodies in its construction the same bracket l2 which is used in the embodiment In and which is aflixed to the window sill W in the same manner. 7
In this modified embodiment of the invention, the aforementioned keeper 3!) and the support arm 40 are combined into a single unit, namely, a keeper 62 which is formed integrally from a resilient plate, doubled upon itself so as to provide upper and lower portions 54, 66, respectively, connected together at the doubled end by a transverse, substantially tubular portion 68.
The portion 68 is provided with a pair of apertures l6 communicating with raised, longitudinal channels or sockets 12 provided between the portions 64,56 for adjustable reception of a pair of resilient prongs 14 formed integrally with an annular flower pot support 16.
It is to be also noted that the free edge 18 of the upper portion (i l of the keeper 62 is. equipped with a plurality of upturned detents 8B which are receivable selectively in the slots N, 2!? of the brackets 12.
When this embodiment of the invention is placed in use, the detents 80 are inserted into the appropriate slots in the bracket so to accommodate the window sillto which the device is to be applied, while the prongs M are inserted through the apertures it into the sockets 12 to such extent as may be required to support the flower pot at a predetermined distance from the window sill.
After a flower pot is applied to the supporting annulus 15, the weight thereof depresses the keeper else that the bottom portion 64% thereof is .inengagement with the sill member 52, whereby the prongs M are frictionall retained in position in'the sockets l2 so-that undesired sliding thereof in the sockets is not possible.
If desired, the free edge 82 of the bottom portion 56 of the keeper 62 may abut the upstanding portion 22 of the bracket l2 for additional support.
.It is believed that the advantages and use of the invention will be clearly apparent from the foregoing disclosure, and accordingly, further description thereof at this point is deemed un necessary.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. In a flower pot holder, the combination of an angle bracket adapted to be secured to a window sill and including a vertical member 4 provided with a vertical row of transverse slots, a removable keeper adjustable vertically on said member and provided with an angulated detent receivable selectively in said slots, and a flower pot support attached to said keeper.
2. In a flower pot holder, the combination of an angle bracket adapted to be secured to a window sill and including a vertical member provided with a vertical row of transverse slots, a removable keeper adjustable vertically on said member and provided with an angulated detent receivable selectively in said slots, a horizontal arm adapted to rest on the stated window sill and provided at one end thereof with a flange removably positioned in said keeper and retaining said detent in a slot of said member, and a flower pot support provided on said arm.
3. The device as defined in claim 2 wherein said support includes a pot receiving annulus and a lateral extension provided thereon, said extensionbeing slidably telescoped in said arm.
i.v The device as defined in claim 2 wherein said keeper comprises a bar positioned transversely of said member and having said detent provided thereon, and a pair of flanges provided at the. ends of said bar and extending around opposite side edges of said member to engage said flange.
5. In. a flower pot holder, the combination of an angle bracket adapted to be secured to a window sill and including. a vertical member provided with a vertical row of transverse slots, a resilient. keeper adjustable vertically on said member and including. upper and lower portions movable toward. and. away from each other and affording a socket therebetween, an angulated detent provided on a free edge of the upper portion of said keeper ,and receivable selectively in said slots, the lower portion of the keeper being adapted to rest on the stated window sill, and aflower pot support mounted on said keeper and including a prong vadjustably telescoped in said socket.
