Shaft 2 carries at both ends a bevelled friction wheel 3, preferably provided with a rubber surface. drum axis. The surface working machine has an operating handle of which only the fork H is shown in the drawings. This fork I1 is pivotally mounted with its two perforated ends on the two hollow axles 28. The rollers 2| together with the two disks H and the intermediate fixing bars constitute the frame or under carriage on which the motor driven working drum and the housing are mounted.
The dust collector compartment 34 includes a suction or ventilator device comprising two horizontal suction tubes 23 symmetrically arranged in axial alinement, which have a radial inlet and an axial outlet opening as shown in Figs. 7 to 9. Two fans 29 are disposed in the outlet openings and mounted on a common shaft driven by a grooved pulley l8 which extends outside the tubes 23 and is coupled for rotation with the pulley 9 by means of a transmission belt 22 running in the grooves of the pulleys. A metal sheet 30 (Fig. 8) is fixed to the dust collector compartment 34 to divide the dust stream and lead it to the inlet openings of the suction tubes 23. The dust sucked by the fans 29 falls down into a container 21 which forms the lower part of the dust-collector compartment 34 and is detachably hinged thereto. The container 21 is equipped with a handle 38. A partition 32 extending downward in the upper part of the dust collector compartment 34 is provided to guide the dust into the container 21, while the flow of air is deflected and passes upwards through a first filter 33 into a chamber behind the partition 32 and then through a second filter 3| on the wall of the dust-collector 34 to the outside atmosphere (Fig. 9).
Fig. 1 shows the machine drum equipped with a scrubbing device or tool comprising batches of steel shavings. In order to use the machine for surface grinding, the scrubbing equipment is removed from the drum surface to uncover the grinding cloth surface of the same and the supporting bars M of the forerollers or wheels are then swung about pivot Ila from the lower stop 24a to abut against the upper one 24 while the screw 25 engages the corresponding upper The friction generated by the respective rotating working tool on the fioor surface F may be varied by lifting or lowering the drum 1 by means of the adjusting lever means [5 arranged on both sides of the machine and having their free ends coupled by a cross handle bar (not shown). The motor cable 35 extends along the operating handleand fork i! where it is fixed by means of clips 31 and leads through one of the hollow axles 28 to the frame I of the electric motor. When the machine is operated, the electric motor drives the working drum I through the friction gears 3-5 and simultaneously the ventilators 29 through the transmission pulleys 9 and I8. The housing 36 covers all motor driven parts of the machine and preferably consists of detachable parts which may be removed separately.
There may be no suction device in the dust catcher and the opening to the dust catcher may be so constructed that the dust is centrifuged into the dust catcher owing to the rotation of the working drum, while the revolved air flows through filters to the outside.
It can thus be seen, that there has been provided according to the invention a surfacing machine adapted for the use of a plurality of interchangeable tools on the surface of the drum of the machine. This drum is rotatable and hollow and accommodated in a casing which is equipped with front wheels and rear wheels; an electric motor positioned in said hollow drum and adapted to impart rotary movement to the latter, suction means in driving connection with said motor and disposed at a location above the axis of said drum within said casing, heightregulating means spacing said drum surface from said floor to be worked upon, said heightregulating means including hand-operated adjusting lever means pivotally mounted on the casing and a linkage connecting the adjusting lever means to the rear wheels, said linkage being pivoted to the casing above said rear wheels, whereby upon operation of said adjusting lever means said linkage swings said rear wheels to thereby regulate the distance of the axis of said drum with respect to the floor surface, and means connected to said front wheels for changing the relative position of the axis of the latter to that of said rear wheels.
I claim:
In a floor surface working machine having a rotatable and hollow drum accommodated in a casing which is equipped with front wheels and rear wheels; an electric motor positioned in said hollow drum and adapted to impart rotary movement to the latter, suction means in driving connection with said motor and disposed at a location above the axis of said drum within said casing, height-regulating means spacing said drum surface from said floor to be worked upon, said height-regulating means including hand-operated adjusting lever means pivotally mounted on the casing and a linkage connecting the adjusting lever means to the rear wheels, said linkage being pivoted to the casing above said rear wheels, whereby upon operation of said adjusting lever means said linkage swings said rear wheels to thereby regulate the distance of the axis of said drum with respect to the floor surface, and means connected to said front wheels for changing the relative position of the axis of the latter to that of said rear wheels.
