My invention relates generally to dental appliances, and more particularly to a tray or cup for taking impressions of anterior teeth while same are in occluded or biting position and the principal object of my invention is, to provide a simple, practical and. inexpensive tray which may be conveniently employed for simultaneously producing accurate impressions of the front portions of both upper and lower anterior teeth, thus showing the correct form and shape of said teeth and their relative positions with respect to each other, and to the other teeth in the patients aws.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. 1 is a front el-evational view of my improved tray.

Fig. 2 is a plan view of the tray.

Fig. 3 is a side elevational view.

Fig. 4 is a vertical section taken lengthwise through the center of the tray and showing the position thereof, while taking the impression.

Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate a preferred embodiment of my invention, ll! designates the body of the tray which is formed from thin sheet metal, hard rubber, plastics or the like and having the general shape of substantially elliptical or lobe shaped members joined at their inner ends and gradually tapering in width toward their outer ends.

This plate is arcuate in horizontal section so as to fit conveniently between the anterior teeth and the lips and in vertical section, said plate is generally concave convex so as to form on its rear face, a shallow pocket for the receptionof the impression compound or wax.

The marginal edge of the material forming plate 10 is formed into a rearwardly presented bead or flange H, which tends to reinforce or stiffen the tray, and also to provide a retaining wall for the impression material placed in said tray.

Formed in the beaded edge of the tray midway between the ends thereof, are upper and lower notches l2, for the accommodation of the frenums while said tray is in use.

Throughout its entire area, plate I is perforated as designated by l 3.

A short flat strap handle I4 is secured to and projects outwardly from the center of the convex front face of the tray.

In using the tray, the pocket on the rear face thereof, is filled with the impression compound or wax, preferably elastic, and said tray is now pressed against the front faces of the anterior teeth of both upper and lower jaws, while same are in occluded or biting position, as seen in Fig. 4, thus simultaneously obtaining accurate impressions of all the teeth with which the impression compound makes contact.

After the wax or compound has become set to the proper degree, the tray with the teeth impressions therein is removed, thus giving the dentist the desired accurate information as to the shape and relative positions of both upper and lower anterior teeth.

Thus it will be seen that I have provided an anterior dental tray which is simple in structure, inexpensive of manufacture and very effective in performing the functions for which it is intended. Minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved dental tray may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departing from the spirit of the invention, the scope of which. is set forth in the appended claims.

I claim as my invention:

1. An anterior dental tray for simultaneously taking impressions of the front faces of the anterior teeth in both upper and lower jaws, comprising a one piece plate of thin material, substantially elliptical in shape and gradually decreasing in width toward both ends and which plate is arcuately curved throughout both length and width.

2. The anterior dental tray as set forth in claim 1 and a handle secured to and projecting forwardly from the central portion of the front face of said plate.

3. An anterior dental tray for simultaneously taking impressions of the front faces of the anterior teeth in both upper and lower jaws, comprising a one-piece plate of thin material, tapering in width toward its ends which are rounded, the bilateral portions of which plate are curved upwardly with respect to the central portion of said plate, which plate is arcuately curved throughout both length and width and a handle projecting from the front face of said plate.
