Beit known that I, J OHN FANNING, of Brooklyn, in Kings county and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Lemon-Squeezers, of which'the following is a specification.

My improvements comprise the combination of a standard, a bed, a presser and means for operating it, a concentrator supporting said bed, and a tongue and recess with which the concentrator and standard are provided, and the tops of which are inclined upward toward the back of the standard, whereby the said concentrator is detachably connected to the standard.

The improvements also consist in details of construction to be hereinatter described.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a bodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same on, the plane of the line 00 00, Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of the same on the plane of the line-y 12 Fig. l.'

Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures. i

A designates the base-piece of the machin made of woodor other suitable material. B designates a standard erected thereon, and made of ironor other suitable material. 0 designates a concentrator. D designates a bed supported therein, and E designates apr esser for squeezing half-lemons on the bed.

The concentrator O is funnel-shaped, and is fastened to the standard B by a tongue, at, with which it isprovided, fitting into a recess, 1), in the standard B. The top of this tongue to is slightly inclined upward toward the hack of the standard, and the upper side of the recess 7) corresponds to it, so that when the tongue drawn except by tilting up the other part of the concentrator. As gravity holds the outer part of the concentrator down, there is no tendency to accidentally detach it, and yet it may be easily removed when desirable.

The bed D is made of glass or other vitreous lemon-juice, and which may be easily cleaned. It is slightly conical or protuberant on the top and corrugated. On the bottom itis also made protuberant,soastohavetherequisitestrength. It is supported on inclined ribs 0 in the concentrator, so that a space will be left between it and the concentrator for the passage of j uiee 5 5 to a vessel placed below the concentrator. The ribs 0 serve to properly center the bed, as well as to support it. The presser E is provided with an arm, E, whereby it is pivoted to lugs extending rearward and forming a part of the standard, and it passes through a slot or guide in the standard, so as to be steadied against lateral movement. This presser is made to approximately conform to the protuberance of the topof the bed, save that its surface is plain instead of corrugated. On its .top is a cam, d, which is operated on by a cam, 0, carried by a lever, G, which is pivoted to the top of the standard B.

This lever only serves to force down the presser 7o upon the bed, and has no connection with the presser. A spring, H, acting against the under side of the arm E of. the presser, serves to impel the presser upward when the lever is raised, so as to release it. A suitably-arranged weight may be used in lieu of.the spring. It will be see-n that by my invention I produce a very simple and effective lemo'n-squeezer which ill be very desirable for household use because of the ease with which it may be kept 8o clean.

\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a lemon-squeezer, the combination of a standard, a bed, a presser and means for operating it, a concentrator supporting said bed, and a tongue and recess with which the concentrator and standard are provided, and which have their tops inclined upward toward the back of the standard, whereby said concentrao tor is detachahly connected to the standard, substantially as specified.

2. In a lemon-squeezer,the combination of a base-piece, the standard B, erected thereon and overhanging the latter at the upper end, the. 5 concentrator 0, supported by said standard,

It is hereby certified that in Letters Patent No. 252,871, issued January 31, 1882, upon the application of John Fanning, of Brooklyn, New York, for an improvement in Lemon Squeozers, the name of the assignee of one-half interest, wherever it appears in said grant of said Letters Patent, was erroneously Written Joseph P. Fanning, instead of Josephine P. Fanning, that the correct name is Josephine P. Fanning,

that the proper corrections are hereby made in said Letters Patent to conform to the files and records pertaining to the case in the Patent Ofioe.
