JAMES B. FINGH, OF BOZEMAN, MONTANA TERRITORY.
HORSESHOE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 252,750, dated January 24, 1882.
Application filed July 7, 1881. (Model.)
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES B. FINOH, of Bozeman, in the county of Gallatin, Montana Territory, have invented certain useful Improvements in Horseshoes, of which the following is a specification. Y
The object of my invention is to relieve the feet of horses from the jar or shock of traveling on hard or paved roads, and also to provide for removal of the calks from the shoe.
To these ends my invention consists in a flanged calk and rubber block combined with a recessed shoe, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a face viewot' a horseshoeof the improved construction. Fig. 2 is a sectional side view of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the calk, and Fig. 4 is a cross-section of the shoe on line 3 y of Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Ais the shoe, provided with calks b I). The shoe is formed in its heel portions with oblong recesses d, at the forward and rear ends of which are lips d. The calks 1) correspond in width with recesses d, and are formed at their ends with lips or flanges b, which rest upon the lips d. In the recess above each calk-is a block, 0, of rubber or other material of an elastic nature.
In applying thecalks thet'orward flanges, b, are first inserted, and the calks then moved back to engage the rear flanges, 1), upon the lips 61. The. forward flange, b, extends to near the first nail-holes, so that when the nails are entered, as shown, it prevents the calks from becoming disconnected by endwise movement.
In case the flanges I) do notreach the nail e, a piece ofrubber or other material may be inserted. \Vith this construction the calks are held projected by the elastic block, which will act to deaden and relieve thejar and shock of traveling.
The calks can be readily removed when worn, or for substitution of others, by withdrawing the nail e and moving the calk forward.
Having thus fully described niyinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination, with the shoe A, having recesses d, elastic cushion'c, and nail c, ot'the removable calk I), provided with flanges 1), substantially as shown and described, wher. by said calk maybe removed on withdrawing nail 6 without removing shoe A from thet'oot.
JAMES BOON FINOH.
